Author has written 27 stories for Peanuts, Fairly OddParents, Series Of Unfortunate Events, Kim Possible, Newsies, Powerpuff Girls, RENT, Flowers for Algernon, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, Office, Great Mouse Detective, Outsiders, National Treasure, Ben 10, General Hospital, Star Trek: 2009, Fusion Fall, Hanna is not a Boys Name, and Adventures of Tintin. For all up-to-date and current happenings and/or rants, check out my LiveJournal or DeviantArt (which is where you can see title cards, what fandom I'm actually looking through at the moment, and some other goodies). Current News: -I'm an extremely busy college student, so nothing is really getting written right now. If you're looking for something to blame, point fingers at schoolwork, my newspaper, and my constant need to be involved with theater, because that's where I am most of the time. I'm more productive in the summer, so that's mostly when you'll see me writing. -Working on Ill Winds. A lot of it is finished, but I decided to add a twist to the ending, so I have to revise the rest of the story to correlate with it. -Pipeline is done, and will be published soon. It's a Fusion Fall story (betaed and inspired by lightning bird). It's been great fun; it's a bit different than what I usually write. It's more thought and dialogue driven instead of just pointless darkness and hurt/comfort, though there's some of that as well. It's not getting many reviews, probably because Dexter and Ben, while featured, are not the main characters. I adore Kevin, and I think the friendship between them is something that we can pull a lot of character development out of. A quick note-- the first half of the story features Buttercup and Ace in great length, and while this is now an essential part of the story, it most certainly didn't start out that way! Buttercup's always been my favorite Cartoon Network character, and I wanted to include her in some way, but her story was a subplot. The original plan was for Kevin to continue to hear her story though rumors and gossip, but I wrote Buttercup and Kevin together one time and I loved their dialogue. Quickly... A friendship was born. Oh, and the story got three times longer. -I'm suddenly in a Peanuts mood again for the first time since I was about twelve, so I might actually rewrite what's on here as "The Van Pelt Saga." I don't remember what I had planned for it, so it'll be a completely new story with a different title. -I'm planning on rewriting/editing/FINISHING Death of a Stoic at some point. It'll probably be six more years before you see an update, but I haven't forgotten it. -I think it's safe to say that I'm finished with Stained; I may remove the last two chapters and cut it off after chapter three. Current Fandoms: -Tintin Activity in Fandom: Reading, writing I took my brother to see the movie when I was home for winter break, and I thought it was cute. It wasn't until I began to read the comics a month or so later that I started to get into it. Shortly after, I found myself with a lot of time on my hands and no computer access because of a personal emergency, and so I started to write. The result was a 40,000 word story written in one weekend on my iPad. I'm editing it for characterization and cohesion, but I'm rather happy with this one, so it'll be up soon. I hadn't intended on writing anything, but it was a very good distraction in a time when I sorely needed one. I love everything about Tintin-- mostly the Tintin/Haddock bromance. I don't write slash, but I definitely left their relationship up to the interpretation of the reader. I'm excited to see what people think of this one, just because it's such a departure for me. It's got tons of Hurt!Comfort as I typically write, but it's all plot relevant for once. I peruse the kink_meme occasionally for prompts and to see some better quality writing than is usually on here. Sorry FF.net fans, but depending on the fandom, the quality sucks around here-- too many OC romances and Mary Sues for my liking. -Fusion Fall Activity in Fandom: Reading, writing I adore this. It puts every fantastic show from my childhood together and combines it with action and drama. And it ages them all so easily and believably! I love the subplot with the Powerpuff Girls. I love Buttercup!angst, and wow, they have it. I didn't realize how much I missed Dexter, too. I'm totally shipping DexterXBen right now... Working on a story which was supposed to be really short but ended up longer than I thought it was. Seriously, I planned the whole thing as a short sequence of events, but I began with writing one of the middle parts, and it ended up being a lot longer than I had planned. I don't think it's especially great writing (I don't particularly like a lot of dialogue, and the majority of it is dialogue driven), but the plot bunnies were attacking, and I clearly heard Kevin's voice in my head. Actually, a lot of it isn't even about Kevin, as it's got a Buttercup/Ace subplot that's randomly in the background. It's called Pipeline, and it is betaed by the lovely lightning bird, who is just a fantastic writer and beta. -Great Mouse Detective Activity in Fandom: Editing, writing I mentioned above that I felt so bad about abandoning this story, as I very much enjoyed writing it. It was a bit of an experiment for me; I don't write in first person very often, and especially in such a stylized manner. I'm not sure I even knew what I was doing at the time. It felt right, so I went along with it. It was the first good thing I'd written in a long time, but I grew disinterested with time. Several years later, I bought The Complete Sherlock Holmes and decided to update it. I always knew where I was going; it was just about finding the inspiration to do it. I didn't mention it at all because I feared I would forget about it again. Then I found this, and with the support of all of the reviews and messages I've gotten over the years to update it, I decided to get started with it. I don't know when things will start going up, I will have a few new chapters. A bit about me: To you, I am Marty. That is not related to my real name in any way. It's a nickname I adopted for a short time in middle school that I always had a bit of a fondness for, even if it never stuck. I actually hadn't seen Back to the Future yet, but I like to think that it was fate that it would become one of my favorite movies. My penname is razzamatazz73, as razzmatazz (no "A," I added that) is an awesome pink Crayola color, and it just fits. I'm a college student who likes to write, sing, and be on stage. I'm in charge of my college newspaper, which is my baby. I can also tap dance, play the piano, play the flute, and play the guitar (badly). I also have a weird love for cartoons that I probably should have grown out of years ago. I try to blame it on babysitting, but I'm really just that quirky. Until early 2007, my penname was lucyrocks73. I changed it because I've been around this site since before I was technically old enough to post, and I'm not too proud of the majority of my writing before then. I "retired" from fanfic writing in mid 2008 to focus on some original fiction projects, and many of my uncompleted stories before then are discontinued. I swore I'd never start a new multi-chaptered story, as I was sick of abandoning stories. In mid 2009, the plot bunnies tortured me, and I decided to stop posting stories unless they're mostly completed. Since then, I've started posting only when I already have most of the story written, so I don't lose interest. Wishing Only Wounds the Heart is a Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends fic I co-wrote with Dude13, a few years ago (back when I was still lucyrocks73) and it's on his profile. You can read it here. Oh, and I'm a girl. -Marty Pairings (past and present fandoms): Violet/Quigley (A Series of Unfortunate Events). Klaus/Isadora (A Series of Unfortunate Events, NOT with Fiona. In the words of Elphie Marky: I really hate Fiona. A lot. She was okay in the beginning of the book. And then Klaus was all like "ooo Fiona" and I'm like "no you have to love Isadora b/c she's cooler." And then Fiona was all like "woo I'm a traitor and I'm gonna be on Olaf's team with Fernald" and then she kissed Klaus. I knew it was coming, I heard it before. And then I was like ahhh no. I hate Fiona. Isadora&Klaus forever!). Lucy/Charlie Brown (Peanuts) Harry/Ginny (HP... canon, much?) Ron/Hermione (HP) Mac/Goo (Foster's... I know many people who hate it, but if it's written well, than I'm all for it.) Jim/Pam (The Office... JAM is the best pairing name EVER.) Spinelli/Maxie (General Hospital... the only reason I watched the show. So if they're ever together again, let me know, and I'll tune in, just for my Spixie!) Kim/Ron (KP) Cherry/Ponyboy (The Outsiders... very hard to find, and it's usually not written very well) Sweeney Todd/Mrs. Lovett (Sweeney Todd...Adorable.I love how clueless and then annoyed he is about their relationship. And then he kills her... And it's kind of funny.) Tony/Ziva (NCIS... Tiva!) McGee/Abby (NCIS... no one else. No offense, but Gibbs/Abby disturbs me. A lot.) Buttercup/Mitch (PPG... I've never seen this one, but it intrigues me) Buttercup/Ace (Fusion Fall and PPG... Love it! They actually have a storyline together in Fusion Fall, and it's great. Please, please no RRB. They irritate me to no end because they're always OOC and badly written) Kevin/Gwen (Fusion Fall/Ben 10 Alien Force/Ultimate Alien... I DO NOT like them too sappy though. Not a lot Gwevin fluff for me-- just a little. They've got quite an interesting relationship.) Ben/Julie (Fusion Fall/Ben 10 Alien Force/Ultimate Alien... I like Julie because she's not a Mary Sue and she's canon. I hate Eunice, who IS a Mary Sue. Julie needs to get more badass, and then things will be better. She's not far off. I actually really don't like her that much, because I haven't seen enough of her. And again, she needs to match or TRY to reach Ben's level of badass-ness.) Ben/Kevin (Ben 10 Alien Force/Ultimate Alien, but not in Fusion Fall... only if it's decent. I also love their friendship in general.) Dexter/Ben (Fusion Fall... This is spectacular.) Hanna/{...} (Hanna is Not a Boy's Name...There are no words for how much I love them, pairing or not. I adore their relationship, as friends, brothers, whatever.) Conrad/Worth (Hanna is Not a Boy's Name...They really crack me up. I adore them both, and there was no way I couldn't ship them. Seriously-- I ADORE them together.) Conrad/Toni (Hanna is Not a Boy's Name... I can see it. I'm not sure why. I really saw it when she had that line about "Oh, is that your entire dinner?" or something that one time. It was just so sweet and concerned, and Hanna seems to leave them alone together a lot.) -Veser/Toni (Hanna is Not a Boy's Name... Another one I can see. I've read some good fics. I just haven't seen them interact enough in the comic yet to really judge it.) -Tintin/Haddock (Tintin... I actually like them better as a bromance or a father/son relationship, but I read what I can and it's usually slash.) Opinions on Slash: Well, to be honest, it used to make me want to puke. I'm not mean to people who write it or are gay; in fact, I'm friends with MANY people who are. I accept them for who they are, and what they like. It's not really any of my business. But when I became part of the Newsies fandom, it was something I had to learn to enjoy, considering that Sarah (who I loathe) is the only girl in the movie (other then Medda, and she doesn't count because she's way too old for those guys). You won't find me writing slash, but I read it. I just don't like really explicit stuff, but I'm like that with everything. And then I got older, and figured out that in certain fandoms, I just liked slash better. I very much like some of Star Trek slash out there, just because Jim Kirk is such a manwhore anyway that it wouldn't surprise me in the least if he would swing both ways (and it's just an awesome fandom). I also like Tintin and Hanna is Not a Boy's Name slash. I really like friendship and bromance fics, sometimes more than slash, but I love the way these guy characters interact. So the answer is, yes, I read slash. I won't write it myself, just bromance-y type things that you can read as you please, and I have nothing against anyone who writes slash. And I'm just fine with that, and I hope you are too. I've been known to write friendship fics that are up to interpretation. (If you're wondering, this section has changed a bit over the years. It once had a lot of "umms" and "I'm not really into slash..." Hey, I grew up a bit!) OC/Mary Sue Rant: I HATE THEM. ALL of them. And don't get me wrong, I'm guilty too. Irene from El Shaddai won a title (I don't remember which) in the Newsies Miss Mary Sue competition several years ago. But I don't like them. Ever. I will admit that I can occasionally find some decent ones, but it's seriously about once in a blue moon and I've been around this site for a while. Why don't I like them? They are usually the author's idea of perfection, and they are awful. There are some fandoms where romance doesn't work except if it is slash (see Slash Opinions above), and the sooner people figure that out, the better. And what do I hate even more? Mary Sue slash. It's not the slash issue, not at all. But people usually invent Mary Sues because of a gender-specific character shortage, or because a relationship/friendship can be interpreted that way. If you're going to write slash, I'd encourage you to use CANON characters, please. So my message, the thing I BEG of you: DON'T WRITE OCs, no matter how desperate you are! And if you must, go take a Mary Sue Litmus Test here, here, or here. Or Google one specific to your fandom, if there is one. And don't lie to yourself. It's ridiculous. This isn't meant to offend anyone, but it's true! MARY SUES (sigh, and Gary Stus) are obnoxious. And EVERYWHERE! Random Things: -Brand loyalty: Apple. I adore Apple products. It's a weird and beautiful thing. -I like 80s movies. Specifically anything John Hughes. And Back to the Future, which is amazing. I have a giant BTTF poster. It's my favorite movie ever. You'll never, ever see me write any fanfic for it because I love it too much, and I hardly read any. -I do not procrastinate often, but the Nostalgia Critic can usually make me stop what I'm doing. | |||||||
