Over Used Plot Series
There are tons of overused plots out there, and if you've read one then you've read them all. I'm going to take overused plots and try to make them palatable. These are the ones I have ideas for so far.
Aragorn can’t marry Arwen (Undying Lands/Death) but must marry for Gondor.
Do you want to marry Aragorn? I do. That’s why this plot is used so much and Author’s feel they won’t get as many flames from Aragorn/Arwen shippers if they dispose of her. If you don’t like don’t read, that’s my motto. Yeah, constructive criticism is good. Things like; ‘grammar could improve’ ‘use a spell checker’ ‘could be smoother’ ‘how about a beta’ but when you tear down a story (everything from the plot to the way it’s written) it sucks. You wouldn’t do that to a professional Author. Why do it to a fan fic one?
Girl/s Falls into ME
Probably the most overused plot in LotR. Usually paired with 10th walker plot. Normally a teenage girl or girls who are outcasts falls into ME after an accident and fall in love with one of the fellowship (usually Legolas, sometimes Aragorn). They’re either fan girls or have never read or even heard of the books. It’s very easy to write a Mary Sue or even a character which is based upon the author because, well come on. Who doesn’t want to go to Middle Earth?
Oh and the trip to ME? Mystically turned her/them into an elf/ves. Imagine that!
10th Walker
Pretty much self explanatory and easy to make a Mary Sue when writing this fic. Seeing as the 10th walker most often happens to be Girl-falls-into-ME (as I said before). Everything goes as it does in the script but the 10th walker does everything or is actively doing nothing.
Elrond’s second daughter
God, I’d love to be an elf. It is in fact my mission in life to find a way how. So that’s understandable. And it’s an easy way to write an OC, tag them onto a well known character. But it’s annoying.
ELROND ONLY HAS ONE DAUGHTER (and I don’t even really like Arwen, but that’s personal. She has Aragorn).
How do you deal with it? She was kidnapped/lost-and-thrown-into-earth. Typically a Legomance.
I’ll probably come up with more plots If I do I’ll add them. These are written in the order I’ll tackle them. I’m hoping each story takes only a month or two to write but who knows. So can I possibly make one of these fic sufficiently digestable? Or in anyway original? I’m going to try.
