Secretly Taunting Angel: A Phantom Fiction

I AM CURRENTLY WORKING ON CHAPTER 16 as of the 10th of April!

The Spark: I read the book a long time ago, and my best mate dragged me to the film version of Webber's musical. Back then I wasn't keen on gaudy musicals. So I expected to waste my money on this 2 1/2 hour rainbow of cack that was a sad piece of ripped flesh from Leroux's original novel. But I have to admit, it was less than five minutes into the film and I fell in love. When the chandelier lit up, my heart jumped and my skepticism was defeated. Everything about the film left me flying once I'd left. The Phantom... I believe the expression is, "Rocked my socks!" That night I went home and started thinking about a story, a continuance of his tragedy.

Starting the Fiction: Never before had I written a fan fiction, it was strange and foreign to me, (like the concept of Mountain Dew, but I found I rather quite like it). Phantom gets a lover= Unoriginal, people see it every other fiction. You know- He gets a girl in the first chapter and they can't keep their hands off each other. This isn't how every fic is though, which is where I found inspiration. Some fics had smart women, who weren't mindless slags. In my fiction, first I wanted to give Erik a companion, someone he didn't realize at first was another person, (He tends to view humanity as a whole like they are objects he controls). As time passed, he needed to realize that companionship is more important than shagging the first fit girl who smiles at you. And that leads us to our heroine.

The Heroine: I developed the character of Caressa carefully, she had to be intelligent, beautiful, she had to have something extraordinary about her; and she needed to have a tragic flaw. Her tragic flaw has not yet been revealed. Although she has an attribute that bothers some readers, she has youth. 15 year old Caressa, sweet, young, and bright. In my story Erik is at least 40 years old. He has an attraction to bright, young girls; his preference stems from Christine. He first loved her when she was much younger than 15. A 20 year old would completely pass his interest, sometimes that angers me when I try to read fictions. Erik is a right shallow bastard. At the time my story takes place, if you were a woman into your 20s and unmarried, you were on your way to spinsterhood.
Caressa is religious, she is not a roaring, inexplicably-modern and outspoken spitfire. She is still a child and doesn't completely understand the situation she is in. Yet she finds courage within herself. Men are a foreign concept, and a bit frightening. Her past has lines of sadness, but nothing that has crippled her.
Strangely the only thing I had trouble with when writing Caressa was her name. It was honestly the minute before I posted the fiction that I put her name in, there were just a few dashes where a name should've been. Originally she was Cecile, Corinne, Elise, Jacqueline, Madeleine, Mirabelle, or Reinette. All of which I now secretly wish I would have chosen instead of Caressa. But she is your heroine, flawed and slightly misnamed: Caressa Bucher. Well, I guess that's not her real name, but it is what everyone calls her.

To be continued...

The Metamorphosis of Man: Stardust Fiction

Madeleine Lennox: The orphan with a sordid past- I know, I know, I know... My intentions here were actually to have Madeleine appear to be a Mary Sue and then, through a test of self, attempt to write her out of a stereotypical situation. And I believe I'm succeeding.

Archibald Cullen: First of all- I have never read any of the Twilight books. Until a mate pointed out that Cullen was the name of the vampire clan or whatever... I had no idea. Archibald is a stable force throughout all of the torrential down-pour of events. He is the only steadfast beacon of goodness in this story.

The Princes of Stormhold: At chapter 6 there is as of yet no rivalry between Primus and Septimus... So this will remain short. It was promised to you and it will come.
