Jan 8, '08After seeing 5.01/2 of OTH, I can safely proclaim that there will be a return of my OTH fics.
I'm going to write furious, hardcore Leyton.
Srsly, Mark Schwahn, YOU BASTARD!
Oi, people! REVIEW.
Author alert me?
Story alert me?
Favourite story me?
Favourite author me?
then, it'd be rather nice if you'd take 2 seconds and
Reviewwww
seriously. I'll churn out stuff way faster if you feed me praise.
It's kinda sad :P
"Why do writers write? Because it isn't there."
-Thomas Berger
"Like everyone else, I am going to die. But the words – the words live on for as long as there are readers to see them, audiences to hear them. It is immortality by proxy. It is not really a bad deal, all things considered. "
-J. Michael Straczynski
I procrastinate. I despise most of the things I ought to do and so I come and hide here. And write random stuff.
In case anyone was wondering, I haven't given up on any of my stories. I just get writers block a hell of a lot... And I'm stupid in the respect that I try to write several stories simultaneously... I WILL update and finish them all...one day...
Tangent alert (again, read some realllly bad fanfic and was filled with a surge of urgency to vent)
Fanfiction Faux Pas: I believe people who ignore the following sacred uncrossable lines should be tied away and forbidden to write fanfic :P
1) OOC. If you're going to make a character completely different than how they're portrayed in their original show/book/movie/etc, go to fictionpress and make up your own damn character instead of massacring pre-conceived ones.
2) Really bad smut fics. Overuse of the words pussy/wet/throbbing/sucking/whatever doesn't make up for lack of credibility. Just because you know the words doesn't qualify you to go forth and scar readers with painfully obviously unexperienced M fics.
3) The Mary Sue. And main character OCs in general. See rant below.
That said, creativity is amazing. I am always in awe when I see a new twist thrown into a fandom. AUs are an addiction of mine, and uncommon pairings can be truly intriguing. Bad grammar and spelling can annoy me, but occasionally the story will have such a good plot and style that I can overlook those details. I love to write and I'm not trying to be bitchy and come off as a picky cow, I get that this is amateur work, but I really do think that using the excuse of 'well it's just fanfiction' is an insult to the multitudes of breathtakingly well written works out there.
rant Generally speaking, I can't stand OCs that become the focus of a story- minor OCs are necessary but when people make an entire plot line around a new character I want to roll my eyes back and laugh. Yes, I fully realize all three of my Summerland stories have OC protagonists and all I can say to that is- I pretty much loathe those stories. I was younger, had very little writing ability, and was as much of a OMGYAY! JESSE'S LYKE SO HAWT type of teenybopper fangirl as one could possibly be. Honestly speaking- Coincidences was purely and shamefully meant as a vehicle to insert a projection of myself into a romance with the projection of Jesse McCartney. The only reason those stories remain up is because I feel a certain level of guilt leaving anything unfinished and cutting any story off halfway because I do have readers and I don't want to leave them high and dry. The same goes for any OCs that may overtake my stories- Toying With Matches, my HP fics, etc. All I can say is I've grown up and now vehemently despise OCs. If you want original characters, go to fictionpress with all due respect. The stories of mine that I actually am proud of are the ones I've written for Cruel Intentions, as well as (most of) my OTH Leyton one-shot collection 'Together'. That's not to say I think everything else blows, but the above mentioned are my personal favourites. /end.rant
I'm a Fan of...
(movies/books:) The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Enough, Titanic, Spiderman, Pirates of the Caribbean, Elizabethtown, The Confessions of Georgia Nicolsen (All 5), Fight Club
Countless celebs including:
Orlando Bloom , Hayden Christensen, Gregory Smith, Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio, William Moseley, Jet Li, Chad Michael Murray, Lucy Liu, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jonathon Taylor Thomas, Keanu Reeves, Tom Felton, Daniel Radcliffe, David Gallagher, Sandra Oh, Etc...
(shows:) BtVS is my favourite series of all time- with Bangel my first and closest ship of any medium at any time, Everwood is 2nd, Angel , One Tree Hill, Grey's Anatomy, Heroes, Friends, Gilmore Girls, Jack and Bobby, Birds of Prey, The O.C., Joan of Arcadia, Will & Grace, Prison Break, Charmed (though I liked the earlier episodes much better, w/ Prue. Ahhh though, Drew Fuller was great too- all hail The Pretty!), and then there's my childhood classics: Boy Meets World, Sabrina, Simpsons.
Higher Ground is amazing and I've never been interested in Hayden Christensen until I saw how good he and the other cast members were in HG. Speaking of HG, I got into it when I realized the actress behind Juliette was Sherry from Vampire High, another series I was really into before it's cancellation.
And a wickedly intriguing movie that opens up very nice fanfiction ideas is SMG's Cruel Intentions
Newest full blown obsession: Twilight by Stephenie Meyers. I want an Edward Cullen. Seriously. No, I want to be Bella Swan with Edward Cullen as the world's most romantic boyfriend and with Jacob Black as the single most amazing best friend in existence.
'Shipper-land
OTH: Peyton/Lucas, Haley/Nathan, Peyton/Nathan
Everwood: OTP: Ephramy. Amy/Ephram, Laynie/Ephram, Hannah/Ephram, Hannah/Nick, Nina/Andy
BTVS and Angel: OTP: Bangel. Buffy/Angel, Willow/Oz, Fred/Gunn
Summerland: Callie/Bradin, Ava/Johnny, Nikki/Cameron, Erika/Jay
Harry Potter: Hermione/Harry. Hermione/Draco.
The O.C: Summer/Seth, Marissa/Ryan, Kirsten/Sandy
Gilmore Girls: I never could decide who I liked more. Bring on the Trories, the Lits, the Narcos. Rory/Tristan, Rory/Jess, Rory/Dean (the beginning or the end, nothing in the middle), Lorelai/ Chris. Lane/Dave, Lane/Henry
Jack and Bobby: Courtney/Jack
Bedford Diaries: Natalie/Richard
Charmed: Piper/Leo, Phoebe/Cole.
Smallville: OTP: Clana. Lana/Clark
Grey's Anatomy: OTP: Burktina (Bang!) Mer/Der, Cristina/Burke. And I'm leaning towards Alex/Izzie. If I didn't love Mer/Der x a kajillion, I'd be interested in Mer/Alex. And now Gizzie's growing on me.
Higher Ground: Scott/Shelby, Scott/Juilette, Auggie/Juilette, Peter/Sophie, Hank/Kat
Twilight: Jacob/Bella. Jacob wins for me. I have chosen. Even though I know it's doomed. And both my Twilight fics are E/B...that's easily explained by saying that I wrote them right after reading Twilight. I fell hard for Jacob the moment I touched New Moon. And if I'm not a lazy ass, I'll write some J/B. It just eats my soul to think of them much less write of them because they're so damn DOOMED ;_;
Popular: Carmen/Josh, Sam/Josh, Sam/Harrison, Sam/George
Heroes: Claire/Peter- and trust me, I never ship incest. But damn them for not revealing it was incest til I already shipped them! Claire/Zack
Gossip Girl: Serena/Dan, Serena/Nate, Jenny/Nate, Jenny/Eric, Lily/Rufus
Recs
I know you could just scan through my very picky favourite's list to guage what stories I would highly recommend, but I feel the need to have this section anyways. Because some fics are just that good.
If you like Draco Malfoy from the Harry Potter series, or are even interested in his character in the slightest- read works by Aduro. These include The Code & it's sequel The Code Breaker as well as After the War
If you're a Buffy fan, a Bangel fan, a futuristic fan, a sci-fi fan, whathaveyou, go read Phoenix Burning by Yahtzee
No self-respecting Trory fan can go on ff.net without reading a story by Jmarit17. I am not exaggerating.
Go forth to my favourite's list and devour! Devour! These stories are beyond amazing and if you haven't read them yet, you're missing out. Seriously.
Future Stories?
In Progress:
-Pre-Horizon fic for HG
I may work on:
-Lit for GG
-Harmonie for HP, Dramonie for HP
-Naley Anthology for OTH, similar to my Leyton one
-K/S for Cruel Intentions: another Sebastian lives
-Jacob-centric fic for Twilight.
-Darker Edward fic for Twilight.
-Trory for GG: Tristan de-virginizes Rory... and it goes totally unexpectedly.
-Pathan for OTH. Expect lots and lots of it. Unexpectedly, I'm really feeling this couple now that I'm re-watching s1. It's weird... now that we have Leyton and Naley solid on the show, the thing I had been egging on since forever, I'm opening my eyes to secondary ships. And Pathan is way up there.
I'm working on a Pathan right now, takes place a few days after the non-wedding. It's gonna be angsty, :P
Being the utterly shameless review whore I am, I'm just going to quickly slip in that reviews fuel the writing process :o)
(rant.#2) And yes I fully understand the reality of people not being compelled to or even able to review every story they read. But what baffles and irks me is when people put stories on favourites lists or alerts and don't leave a review. I love getting put on those lists, don't get me wrong, I just think that if you like a story enough to add it, isn't it worth it to take two seconds to encourage the writer who will in all likiliness be cheered by the words and not feel so much like a silly bint who's just wasting time on this site? (end.rant.)
I tend to write a lot when I'm procrastinating, which is why there's so much stuff here, oops. It's a problem I have. So, I apologize if it's taking a really long time for me to update.
The work never matches the dream of perfection the artist has to start with.
-William Faulkner
Darling, it's not as hard as it may seem. It's worth it to try.
