And of course I know it won't win but Middlewood for best story, A nomination would do wonders for my self esteem. XD XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX NewSkool101 from Rs.Net's take on K/R (of which I happen to agree with) The feeling I get is completely different, yet not in a bad way at all. It's weird. I have a lot to say on the subject, so just hear me out. Kim and Ron's relationship, to me is in many ways idealistic, almost to the point where I can't really see something like it happening in real life. The whole idea of 4 year olds being 'destined' for each other. Finding "true love" at such a young age. The geeky guy ending up with one of the prettiest, most popular girls in the school. While not impossible, the odds on such a relationship occurring aren't very great. Heck, Kim and Ron's entire relationship is an anomaly. Here's a pretty, popular, near-fearless girl, type-A personality, head cheerleader, teen hero, miss "Can do anything", and her best friend, a geeky, socially awkward slacker, school mascot with silly foamy mouth gimmick, bumbling sidekick, Mr. "Never be normal". The fact that they're friends to begin with seems odd. The fact that they've managed to put up with each other for so long despite their obvious differences and quirks is even odder. And yet, at the same time, it all makes sense. You can't really understand Kim and Ron's relationship without understanding how that relationship formed to begin with. Most young kids form friendships with those who share common interests, engage in common activities, and so forth. Girls and boys rarely become best friends with someone of the opposite sex because they don't often share these common interests/activities. From my own experiences and observations, little girls tend to favor...um...girly stuff, while boys seek adventure and physical activity (not true in all cases, just in general). There usually isn't much prolonged intermingling between the two. Now here's how this relates to Kim and Ron. Kim has her girly side, but she mostly a tomboy at heart. Ron is at times, rather...effeminate (flashback to Kim in cowgirl outfit watching Ron prance around as a ballerina), not to the point of being gay, but I think Ron just genuinely never cared about any gender barrier (he apparently never went through the 'girls have cooties' stage). Kim had someone in Ron, with his outgoing personality, to break her out of her initial shyness toward strangers, and who didn't mind hanging out with both her girly side or her tomboy side, while Ron had someone in Kim who wasn't totally thrown off by his weirdness. Kim and Ron were both awkward in a way that just seemed to fit, like two really awkward shaped pieces of a puzzle that don't appear to match up with anything but each other. The more I've thought about it, the more I've realized this - Kim and Ron don't simply complement each other, they literally complete each other. ducks oncoming projectiles from non-K/R fans Okay, I know how cliche that sounds, but again, just hear me out. Kim and Ron both have the tools and skills to succeed on their own, but they each have one major thing that prevents them from doing so. Despite being the "girl who can do anything", Kim is extremely insecure. Don't believe me? Look at the times Ron excelled in things that Kim struggled with, the times she'd turn into a shy, starstruck little girl when she was crushing on Josh, the times she'd fail in missions when Ron wasn't there to back her up, her perceived inability to hit the high note, 'The Truth Hurts', 'A Sitch in Time', 'Gorilla Fist', 'So The Drama', I could keep going... Point is, Ron gave her the confidence that she needed to be the "girl who can do anything", even when she wasn't so sure of it herself. Ron was the key to her overcoming her insecurities and ultimately saving the day time after time. This was never more apparent than in So the Drama, with the now-famous "Out there, in here" scene. As for Ron's one major fault, it's motivation, or the lack thereof. Through the majority of the series, Ron basically does whatever Kim does. Not because Kim made him or because he had no other choice, but because he rarely showed the desire to do much else. He lacked direction, purpose, motivation. He's always had potential, but never felt he had a reason to use it. That's where Kim comes in. In the latter part of the series, Kim doesn't just motivate Ron, she BECOMES his motivation. In season 4, he makes an effort to step up and better himself, not for his own benefit, but for Kim. You can argue whether or not his desire to save Kim was what caused his MMP to kick in fully in Graduation, but you can't argue that saving Kim was why he wanted to go full MMP. So yeah, K/R is idealistic in a sense that they do what a couple is supposed to do but often don't, each fills in what's missing from the other. In response to the thread title, THAT is what it is, for me at least News Flash: Fusion collaborators wanted! I don't want to jump the gun because I've got plenty of other stories that need my attention right now BUT in the not too distant I may be looking for a collaborative effort if anyone is interested. Here's what's running through my mind: A.U Kim and Ron are not childhood friends (not set in stone) I'm going to cut to the chase. It's a fusion story based on the hit show The X _ _ _ _ _ (If you can solve this puzzle you may already qualify) So I'm going to be dabbling in a little horror, a little bit of the paranormal. Things will get weird. Many original characters will be required. And most likely (not set in stone) this will be a series of "episodes" so I'm thinking the more writers involved the better. Ok as I said I'm not ready to start anything as of yet. But if anyone is interested drop me a PM and we can run some initial ideas by each other. New Story Fable...bombs! LOL I expected flames but not absolute silence. 4 reviews out of 195 hits so far. Now I haven't had a complete bomb in awhile. (See my original story). Anyway I think the story is pretty funny and I have decided to continue it though i swore I would have only one new story of the year. I really have to stop making promises I can't keep. Here's a collaborative effort I think has the potential for hilarity. Rejected letters to Penthouse. It doesn't necessarily have to b smut. It just has to be funny. Think about it and get back to me XD Coming Soon Since I'm over loaded with stories at this point it looks like I will only be starting two new (multi chapter) stories for the YEAR. I've got a lot of ideas but I'm going to choose the best two to work on. I can say at this point it looks like one of the stories will be an AU "Noir-type" detective story staring Will Du. The second fic may feature vampires and the Crusades. Check this space for any new important info. Rewrites: I'm planning on rewriting the following two stories Hero: It'll be a complete rewrite, some characters from the original will stay, some will be eliminated and some new characters will be added. Anthony the main character will also get a personality overhaul. Vengaza arc: This will basically be a season 4 update with much needed grammar and spelling checks If you've got an idea, complaints or any issues about this let me know. First quarter focus. For early 2008 my (I'll try) focus will be most likely on these stories.
