Le'letha…
…believes things into reality.
…is pronounced leh-LEH-thuh: feminine noun, omnivorous bookworm, lifelong Trekkie, and fanwriter.
…has a fleet of starships inhabiting her desk.
PROS: speed-reader; sensible; imaginative; good memory; devoted to things she believes deserve to be devoted to; loyal; religious (very liberal Roman Catholic); good student; works for her own spending money; organizes; terrified of alcohol/drugs; can shut up, can’t swear to save her life.
…wants the Library of Congress for her birthday.
CONS: often vague; occasional complete space-case; lazy; procrastinator; antisocial; solitary; sometimes depressive; spiteful; hypocritical; not always in tune with the world; sarcastic; vengeful; paranoid; not to be let loose in a bookstore with too much money.
…if annoyed, will put her book down…maybe…probably not…
EITHER/OR: obsessive; nitpicker; fantasize-r; night owl; lesbian but single; bookworm to the exclusion of other things; mostly unromantic.
…fell in love with Star Trek at five years old and has never looked back.
Things That Annoy Me: Crossover/OC romance; ridiculous pairings or plots; plagiarism; idea snitching; writing or stickers in books; people who dog-ear pages; most of my classmates; how much anime costs; homophobes; racists; instant-message-speak; text messages; online social networking sites; iPods; Bluetooth attachments. Because I’m just weird that way.
…denies everything, and believes that everything is true; these statements are not always contradictory.
I am prone to saying I love with regard to various people. (At least one exclamation of “I love that man!” usually accompanies any given Doctor Who episode, for example.) Just for the record, that’s a totally different statement from I desire or I want. The former is a fact of life; the latter isn’t really in my worldview.
...collects quotes.
However flattered I may be at the invitation, I am not at the moment open to the playing of RPGs. I have no experience with such and would prefer to focus on my writing at this time. I am open to beta-reading.
…once maintained that she wanted to be a cat when she grew up.
I’ve noticed it’s a tradition on the Internet to pretend that you’re insane. I won’t claim to be, but I’ll stay up from first dark to long past dawn to watch all six Star Trek: The Original Series movies or insane amounts of Doctor Who. So you may pass sanity on my judgment—that is, judgment on my sanity—as you like.
…thought she was crazy…until she came here…
On The Fire: At the moment, Lost Boys, a Death Note oneshot collection, is receiving my main attention until my next multi-chapter story gets started. I have a Doctor Who short-story collection called Teamwork updated infrequently. Unfortunately, I’ve been forced to cancel my Yu Yu Hakusho story, Uneven Odds, due to lack of reader and author interest. I may write the last chapter for the current story arc, but most likely not. Sorry.
Upcoming: I can now announce that I have a scribble sheet for a Star Trek: The Next Generation/Doctor Who CROSSOVER, featuring Rose and the Tenth Doctor, and also, by request, Varka and Liarka from Free Enterprise. It’s entitled The Paths to Tomorrow and will be coming out soon.
Memory Alpha: Masterpiece Archive: If one of your stories, alternate or original universe, oneshot or epic, is included in this c2, you’ve nailed the plot, setting, and/or characters as well as or better than the original. ‘Memory Alpha’ is the planetoid in the Trekiverse containing the biggest library in the Federation. Read them. You won’t be disappointed. Only the good stuff gets in.
Random oneshots may occur without warning, and do not herald the discontinuation of my larger stories.
To everyone who has asked about A Time for Pizza: Ye gods! It was a throwaway, people! Not that I’m upset with the attention, of course. (Wow!) I had not planned on continuing it, but… keep asking, and you never know.
…was once told she was obsessive, and wondered why anyone thought she didn’t know.
Personal Rules:
Reading: Take the good with the bad and use mindbleach sparingly. Each story has four chapters to ‘sell’ me (unless it’s just bad). OC or crossover romances are out. I do have a soft spot for a few slash pairings, and a few (mostly canonical) straight pairings. I don’t need to put a list here—you can probably figure them out by looking at my favorites list. Speaking of…I read A LOT and all over the map. Do not try to find a unifying theme.
Writing: Someone (grayangle) once told me: “Other things just have to be done before your readers’ enjoyment. Going to get something to eat is a good one; the bathroom is another. Bathing & friends are over-rated at times.” I’m a student, cut me some slack. If you point out any mistakes, I will beat myself up more than you ever can and then change whatever the problem was. In the words of the window washer…all will be made clear. I love this saying; I wish I had made it up.
Reviewing: I subscribe to the DLDR school of thought (don’t like, don’t read). I accept anonymous reviews. Constructive criticism is appreciated. I like to reply to reviews, and will do so posthaste. Flames will be dealt with by the flame police. (Le'letha puts on Flame Police Chief Badge and grabs a fire hose) Lock and load! Particularly offensive people will be run over by starships. (The flame police actually don’t get much exercise…)
…keeps at least one foot in the Dreaming at all times.
Universes and Fandoms I Obsess Over, Love, and/or Enjoy:
Star Trek: The Original Series/The Next Generation/Deep Space Nine/Voyager/Enterprise: Primary obsession. Ever. And I do mean obsession. I would have to curl up and die without Star Trek. I’m totally addicted and have been ever since I was five years old. Whenever I get too bored I read my copy of the Encyclopedia…now there’s a gift from God. I persist in insisting that it’s taught me more, in roundabout ways, than several years of school. And besides, it’s darn fun. Escapism, yes, but…I come back with literature references and word-for-word quotes that save science tests. I’m a Trekkie; it’s a fact of life. Love Star Trek, love Star Trek, love Star Trek.
Doctor Who (9th and 10th Doctors): Every so often I hit something that makes me ask How in the world did I live before I ran into this? ‘Star Trek’ was one, this series another. Five minutes into the first episode, and I am so hooked. Luckily, my whole family is too. Watching new episodes all together has become a tradition. Unfortunately, since we’re in America, we’re perpetually a year behind—frustration incarnate for a fanficcer like me! It also contains the one pairing (Tenth Doctor/Rose) that I’m willing to openly throw a tantrum about, at volume, if it doesn’t happen. Ergo, if they don’t get her BACK pretty darn soon, you’ll be hearing me screaming from wherever you’re sitting right now.
Rurouni Kenshin: The first manga I ever read. (Under pain of death, I might add…but thanks, Keitorin and Kokoro.) I have all 28 books and I’m still looking into getting the anime. Fun historical fiction/action/adventure. Bit of romance. I do recommend it.
FullMetal Alchemist: Wow! This is clever, funny, relevant, and intense. I own the full set of manga and anime—thank goodness for secondhand Amazon sellers! The funny thing is that my anime-scorning mom keeps talking about ‘equivalent exchange’, and all we can do is laugh! Got to get her into it somehow…
Death Note: In January of 2008, two friends informed me that I HAD to read this manga/anime series. The next week, my school library got the first six books. (I suspect collusion.) As of four months later, it had eaten my brain. This is SUCH a clever series! (True story: I made the mistake of reading the incredible finale for the first time during school hours. Two people in my Biology class asked me what I’d been smoking.) I’m watching the anime now. The voices, I think, are fine—they got L perfectly (bless him)! So far it’s incredible! (N.B. Except for the potato chip scene, which I giggled all the way through.) I saw the first live-action movie in theaters with a couple of friends. (This also contains a record number of slash pairings (two at once) that I support.)
Terry Pratchett’s Discworld: Sarcasm! Parody! Good points! Lots of books! ‘nuff said. My favorites are anything with Sam Vimes and his un-merry mostly-men… If you haven’t read these, READ THEM. Start with ‘Guards! Guards!’. It’s one of the best.
The Sandman: This fits so perfectly with my view of the world that it’s creepy. I’ve totally incorporated the seven Endless siblings (Destiny, Death, Dream, Destruction, Desire, Despair, and Delirium) into my personal cosmology. As a reader and writer who depends on fantasies to get through the day, I’ve got to love Dream…got to and do.
Firefly: I’d heard of this in passing, and thought, ‘Oh, I should check that out someday’. Turned out one of my friends had all the episodes on his computer, so I watched the first one with him, and resolved to get them for myself. Ye gods…I love the Serenity crew. The movie was awesome. (River’s a ninja-girl!) I especially like Mal…does he know how funny he is? Does he do it on PURPOSE?
Other:
Yu Yu Hakusho, Inu-Yasha, Diana Wynne Jones, ‘A Game of Thrones’ and sequels, The Chronicles of Narnia, Sherlock Holmes, His Dark Materials, Erin Hunter’s ‘Warriors’, Calvin and Hobbes, Garfield, Foxtrot, ‘Classic’ Sci-Fi (Asimov, Clarke, Heinlein, etc)
…says TALLYHO! and laughs.
