Information on the Craziest Person on My Side of the Mississippi

I'm a typical 24 yr old femme, now a full-fledged graduate student just asking for more trouble in school than is absolutely necessary. Always feeling a little harried and definitely looking forward to summer each year. I'm a Southern girl with a Southern attitude, and it definitely shows. I also tend to be cynical and obsessive-compulsive, even neurotic at times. I have a tendency to be overly blunt, which makes it very hard for me to keep myself in my friends' good graces for more than a three-month period. Oh well. Truth hurts, baby. Take it like the man you're supposed to be.

I consider myself to be an intelligent, educated being who tries to be respectful and considerate of others. (The only thing I won't be respectful of is the Chicago Manual of Style. It really pisses me off.) I am interested in reading, music, very few television shows, and my family. Did I mention reading? A good book is my own personal version of 'lighting up' and I would read professionally if I could. I'll give any story a chance; romance, sci-fi, historical fiction, fanfiction, essay, rant, anything as long as it has a decent word or two in the prose. Poetry is a little more delicate of a subject; I like poetry, but I find myself incredibly judgmental on poetry so I steer away from most of the genre.

I love anything that has to do with Jane Austen, Terry Pratchett, Joyce Carol Oates, Final Fantasy, Artemis Fowl, Stargate, X-Files, Sex and the City, Inuyasha, Skins, True Blood, Naruto, Samurai Champloo, and my new favorite show Burn Notice. Give me some Blackadder, a cigarette, and a Mountain Dew and I'm a happy girl.

I consider myself a closet nerd. Outside of my house I am a normal girl, but at home I watch anime, blog, and play video games. Most people think it is one of the weirdest things ever to see me change my personality when I get around the few people I am comfortable with. I am currently heavy into Naruto (not the American version), Bleach, Get Backers, and Kenshin. New anime is fun to see! I don't write fanfiction for notice or for attention, I write for the fun of it and to get the ideas out of my head. I have good plot bunnies that never develop into big rabbits! It's also not the only writing I do, although I doubt you guys are here for that stuff.

A Few "Personal" Aspirations

1. I want to be a professor. Not because I want to mold young minds or anything like that. I just want to make sure that at least a handful of young adults make it through college learning more than "Hey, Frat party!" and "Dude! The library SO has a book with some pictures in it that look like P-O-R-N!" as well as my favorite "Oh My God! Did you hear that insert professor here gave insert student here this huge paper to do? She'll miss martini night!"

Heaven forbid school involve more than getting drunk and parading in a circle around a poor man dressed in a mascot outfit (fire dance!). I am very scared for the future of our, cough, Great Nation.

2. I want to move to a remote location and live without worrying about gas prices, nuclear weapons, and mosquitoes. Because mosquitoes in the South can kill you. I promise. They're these bird-like creatures that carry off small children and chihuahuas. Which I can deal with until the child is related to me.

3. I want to be able to walk into a gas station at four in the morning (usually for caffeine or some other strange craving) after a night of way too much fanfiction and not have the crazy/scary/possibly pedophilic attendant look at me like I am there to rob the place. I'm not going to rob your store in pajamas. I promise.

4. I want normal neighbors. Neighbors that don't lead to burning cars, fire trucks through walls, gunfights in the street due to angry spouses coming home early, dumpsters on fire, crazy guys practicing karate on a tree, old men at 6 a.m. outside in JUST their robes, bands practicing at 3 a.m., or security cameras outside a door because someone keeps stealing the lawn furniture when there is no lawn in the first place. (And these are all factual incidents that have happened in the past three years. I have newspaper clippings to prove it. I live in the Twilight Zone of apartment complexes.) Maybe I should write a book.

The Random Fact for Summer 2009, to Educate All Peoples of the World:

Um, yeah...did you know that bees in the world are dying off by like, the thousands, every day? I would generally say "screw them," as anything that stings me with its butt deserves a fiery death. But apparently, them dying off means we screwed up somewhere. So if it seems like there are less bees this summer, you should consider going green if it worries you.

8/20/09- Yeah. Grad school is killing me. The epilogue of SYWBL is almost finished, thankfully. Should be posted sometime, if school doesn't kill me. Real life is invading my writing, as I'm taking 15 hours of grad school, learning Chinese and Japanese, refining my Spanish, and still working. OverAchievers Anonymous, here I come! Drabble series is almost finished, as 4 is ready to be posted and 5, well, Yamato won't cooperate.

5/22/09- Um, hello? I'm still here, yes. Life is generally busy, and writing is something I've been doing late at night when I don't have to work the next day. So. I've got about 75 of the extremely long epilogue for SYWBL done, a new story to post, and 75 of another new story. The new ones are part of a language prompt/drabble series I'm trying to do, mainly to get my writing juices flowing. We'll see how that goes. On the other hand, I'm looking for a comm or something that gives me the freakin' prompts to write about. Anyone have any ideas whatsoever? I'm too tired to search them out right now.

2/25/09- Yes, I know. That epilogue is taking me a long time, right? Well, that's because there are two versions (mature and not) and they are both LONG. But in truth, what's really killing me is school. I'm working 35 hours a week and taking 12 hours of graduate classes. Not sure how many grad students are out there, but those who are can understand my pain. Humans are not meant for this torture, and I'm upset to admit that I've only had a few days since January to work on the epilogue of SYWBL. Rest assured, it will be posted. I'll be in New Orleans next week, and I'm hoping that between conference meetings and enjoying one of my favorite cities, I can get some writing done.
