Hi there! I am a college student in California, USA. Though I have been reading fanfic for a couple of years now, I'm not a very prolific writer. I currently maintain a Star Wars forum and fanfic archive focused on Obi-Wan and Anakin slash AND gen at forum.forcehaven.com, so please stop by for a visit if you have stories of your own you'd like to share or if you just want to chat about Star Wars. I may also sometimes post to my LJ under the user name universal_doll. Please feel free to friend me!
NOTE: Lately I've been getting a few random PM's from people who act like they know me from somewhere when I don't or like I've expressed interest in thier stories when I haven't. Needless to say, I find such PM's annoying and slightly creepy, and they will be IGNORED. So just don't send them or I'll report you, got it? Friendly PM's are fine, but deceptive ones are not!
Fandoms & Pairings:
Star Wars, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Stargate SG-1, D.N.Angel, Saiyuki, Prince of Tennis, Fruits Basket, Tokyo Babylon/X1999, Naruto, Bleach, Fullmetal Alchemist
My current favorites of the above are Star Wars, Prince of Tennis, and Saiyuki, though I read in a variety of series depending on my mood including a few random ones not listed above. I like both gen and slash (yaoi) for most fandoms, though not much het though it really depends on the pairing. Sadly, though, it seems that many of my prefered pairings aren't all that popular. Anakin/Obi-Wan . . . Goyjo/Sanzo . . . you get the idea. As for my writings, I do write gen, though I also write tasteful (I hope) slash. But if you're looking for lemon, you're in the wrong place. I am not offended by people writing detailed sex scenes, but believe me when I say that I couldn't (and wouldn't) write a half-decent one to save my life!
Current Projects & Previews:
Stuff I have in the works.
1. Recombinant -- A Prince of Tennis fic. I have no idea where the idea for this fic came from, but its different. And quite long, for me at least. This story has been completed, and is currently in the process of being posted (albeit slowly, since I'm a bit of a scatterbrain when it comes to updates).
2. Sequel to Recombinant -- Untitled, will probably contain shounen-ai and be about as long as the first. Has been fully outlined and is about halfway done, but progress is very slow now as my PoT muse hasn't been clocking in much lately. Unposted.
3. Two Drives -- Anakin/Obi-Wan slash fic. It has a title now! I've got about four chapters of this done. My SW muse is a bit flighty at the moment (I think all those school projects scared her off), though I've ben working on it here and there lately. Unposted.
4. Saiyuki gen fic -- Sanzo-centric, though features the other main characters as well. It should be about eight or nine chapters when its done. I've started on the fifth chapter of this, but it is pretty much on hold at the moment. Unposted.
Note that I do NOT write Mary Sues, and the only OC's you will find in any of my stories, if any, have minimal roles and are there for the purpose of the plot. :)
About Reviews:
I usually only review only stories that I like, or that I think have really good potential. But I very, very rarely leave signed reviews. I pretty much only leave anonymous reviews, actually. Why? Well, if I review a story I usually give some constructive criticism, and though I make an effort to be helpful and nice I don't ever want to deal with any irrate, oversensitive authors that can't take concrit. I may leave a signed review if I think your story is absolutely amazing and I have no concrit at all for it, or if I at least kinda know you (which is unlikely since I know VERY few people here).
As for reviews left for my stories, I am simply delighted by them, signed or not. It makes me kinda sad though when I get 5x as many author/story alerts as reviews for a story though. :( Concrit is welcomed, provided it is sufficiently researched (if applicable, when correcting me on canon or something) and mostly objective (since we all have differing opinions). And I'm not the best writter, but I know my work is at least decent enough so as not to merit flames. So any flames will be looked upon with the interest that an anthropologist may observe the headhunting Igorots of Luzon with.
Rant/Tip of the Week (Month, whatever):
Let's talk about AU's. Why is it that so many authors put AU under "warnings"? My guess is that a lot of people don't like or avoid AU's because its common that AU = OOC/plot holes/wildly different setting. Obviously, not all AU's are created equal! In fact, the term is often used incorrectly. There are really two different types of "alternate universe" fics, one of which is actually called "alternate reality", or AR. AU fics take the characters from canon and put them in a different setting/universe (ex: Naruto in an American high school). AR fics, on the other hand, change events or circumstances in canon at some point in time. In other words, the reality of canon is changed, but not the universe! (ex: What if Naruto didn't go after Sasuke?)
And then there's the matter of OOC-ness in AU settings (I see this more in AU than AR). Of course a character's past and their environment is a huge factor in their personality and their very nature. So yes, if you take a brash, bold boy that grew up in a loving home in canon and make him grow up as a downtrodden slave instead, then he won't turn out the same way he did in canon! So does that make him OOC? Maybe, maybe not; but either way, that character isn't what readers would expect, so a warning or note of some kind is in order. ;) IMHO, a true challenge of writing an AU fic (and AR, to a lesser degree) is to somehow retain most of the "character" of canon in an alternate universe by imagining a background that character could have in a different setting that would make him/her turn out much like the character did in canon.
Now, onto my fic! If you're interested that is . . .
