9/19/05: Something Stirred.
The Muse was asleep. She had been for years, was perfectly happy playing Briar Rose; resting in her tower surrounded by thorns. Occasionally, she'd whisper something in her sleep, a phrase or fragment that would wind its way into a poem or essay, but by-and-large she slept soundly. Dreamlessly.
Until one day I was double-dog-dared. Dared to salvage some semblence of sanity from a character (and fandom) that I have never enjoyed.
That night, I dreamed the Muse. And she whispered the word "Caioneag", smiling.
Was bloody well proud of herself too, the little cheeker.
She's awake now, in the twilight hours. Never for long, and still rather sleepy, but she's stirring. Fretting. The others are gone. The cannons she knows collecting dust and out-of-date. Her Writer less-than-thrilled with her awakening. A computer's worth old stories lost to a system failure.
Lethe's awake. Maddie is brushing the dust out of the tower and bitching about hiring a maid. Jeanne is tearing her hair out, cursing them both soundly and ignoring their phonecalls. The Muse, the Fictive, and the Writer. It could be a bad sitcom, but none of them are very amused at the moment.
In Process: If You Slept, Faustian Bargains, One Night, Twenty to Two to Two Today, Fallen, Wake Me, and Fragmentary.
About the Writer:
Jeanne M is a tiny person at 5'1" with auburn hair and blue/gray eyes. Librarian by day, theater guru by night. Most of her spare time is now spent on World of Warcraft, but there are some unpublished fic sitting on her flash drive, begging to see some daylight. She enjoys anime (Ranma 1/2, Utena, Twelve Kingdoms, Eureka 7, Lain), Anne Sexton, World of Warcraft, Charles deLint, introducing her roomies to anime and fanfiction, and spending time with her boyfriend. Her favorite comics are Sandman, Fables, Runaways, and Elfquest, and she refuses to buy X-Men after all the &$#! they did to her favorite characters...although she might reconsider with the return of Jubilee...if they actually start giving her some content to work with!
