My name is Malinda. If I could make a profession out of stage dooring/following Cats around the country I would. But for some reason, that isn't actually a paid career so for now it's school for me. Of the things I love...Cats, theatre in general, Green Wing, Veronica Mars and The Mighty Boosh are probably the most important.
Most of my fanfiction is Cats the Musical fiction. I've been to see the show in the West End and also on tour and I've owned the video since I was six. Some of the fanfiction I have written is based on the video production however after I went to see the 2006-2007 tour cast I was completely inspired and so the Pouncivals and Tumblebrutuses have kind of left my fanfiction now and all the personalities are based on the portrayals of the characters made by that cast...which may get me criticised in reviews some time in the future but I really don't care because to me, that cast was just the ultimate Cats experience. Kevin McGuire, my little Carbucketty and u/s Mistoffelees, inspires me a lot for my fanfiction and also Dean Maynard's portrayal of Munkustrap...not just because I'm his new adoptive little sister (lol) but also because he brings a new dimension to the character which really brings that something extra and makes everyone sit up and take notice. I will also give special mention to one characterisation I picked up from the 2007-2008 cast and that is Ryan Dixon's Alonzo as he amazed me from the first time I saw him perform!
I also write fiction about the 'adventures' (sounds childish but I couldn't think of any other way to describe it!) of my friends in the tour and one of these stories I intend to publish in book form once it's complete as a special thank you present to all of them.
As far as my favourite characters are concerned I can never really say because I love all of them, but if someone was to be cruel and make me pick just four I would have to say Carbucketty and Bill Bailey as they are absolutely adorable and the tricks they get up to make me smile (Has anyone else seen Alex Durrant as Bill Bailey? It's not just me, he IS that character isn't he?!). Then...Mistoffelees. I have always adored Quaxo/Mistoffelees since I fist saw the show and nothing's changed other than he's now second to Carbucketty again thanks to the UK tour cast! lol And finally Munkustrap...especially Deano's version. I'm sorry, I can't help it!!
And finally I would like to officially dedicate Time To Shine to four very special people: Ryan Dixon, Dean Maynard, John McManus and Chris Howell. The tour may be over now and some of you may have left earlier than others. But I'll never forget your performances and your friendship means the world to me. Thank you for everything, and I hope we can meet again soon.
