You can check it out here. Signup is free. Random Chess Musing(s): Was re-watching some Code Geass episodes the other day and couldn't help but be amused by... well a lot of things. For one, Lelouch might be a genius but he's no chess genius. I understand the symbolism, but I can't help but wonder if the writers ever even played a single match before. No, I'm not talking about that scene in episode 9 when Schneizel moved his king into check and then said "checkmate" when Lelouch's king had an escape square - though that was hilarious as well. I'm actually thinking about the very first episode when our protagonist declared that "the king must lead" and then promptly moved his majesty. Now, there are good and sufficient theoretical reasons why this isn't such a hot idea. (The opposite is generally recommended - i.e. tucking the king into a corner via castling.) But I think this three move game illustrates most clearly and concisely what could happen when "the king leads."Clicky! Do enjoy the anime and I recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it, but don't (amongst other things) take chess lessons from Lelouch. You will be disappointed with the result. Update 4/30/2010: Here's a patzer game from yours truly to tinkle your brains: setup1 Black has won a pawn and has a large advantage because of White's weak king. He then played 15...Nxe4!? A very "flashy" move. What happens after White's 16. fxe4? setup2 Did Black just drop his knight by mistake? If not, how does he win? Answer here.
