Hmmm... Profile?

Wow, it's time to update. I'm done, I'm DONE! Actually, I've been done for a year. Graduated December 2007 with my MA in International Journalism. I was very happy with how my dissertation came out in the end. I'm back home in Canada and run a software alliances program for a large, local Tech company. It has nothing to do with my background but it's a great job right now.

The Facts

Age:
26 (eek!)
Sex: Female
Location: Western Canada
Occupation: Software Alliances
Education: BA English Literature, minor in Women Studies (2005); MA International Journalism (2007)
Likes: martinis, poetry, music (opera, classical, jazz, folk), anime/manga (mostly the flowery, girly kind), Bollywood films, yoga, writing, reading, photography.
Dislikes: loud cinema-talkers, people who cut you off in traffic in the middle of bloody winter, being sick (achoo!), small-minded sheep-people.
Favorite Food: sushi
Other Interests:I love photography. If you're bored, you can find me here-- http://rapunzzle.deviantart.com

I'm writing a little on the side. I've had some good fortune receiving invites to a few open mic nights, include one that was part of a national spoken word fest. I'm nerve-wracked, but it's fun ;) And I had a few of my poems published in a little anthology. Right now, I'm working on a short fiction piece and putting together a portfolio to look for some writing gigs; and I'm putting together my own book of poems so watch our world!

With all the 'work-related' writing I need to be doing, I shouldn't really have time to add to my fanfic base, but it's fun and I find writing something just for the enjoyment of it helps me to write when I 'have' to. sighs Oh, the life of a writer...

My favorite fanfic-related shows have traditionally been CSI, Law and Order: SVU and, of course, House M.D. I haven't tried my hand at a CSI fic, despite wanting to. As soon as I feel sure enough in my ability to corectly portray the characters, I had always planned to. I had a working idea for a Sara/Grissom piece, but during my year abroad I wasn't able to keep up with the show and have more-or-less lost interest; although I did watch Grissom's departure. And for all us Sara/Grissom-shippers out there-- they've kind of taken care of it so there's not much for me to contribute.

I've always been a big fan of anime and have recently moved to manga, with my current obsessions being Fruits Basket (aka. FURUBA), The Vision of Escaflowne (an older anime/manga series that I have been hooked on since highschool), and now, Ouran High School Host Club. I've recently been hooked (oh SO hooked!) on Fullmetal Alchemist (and Vic Mignogna) and, thanks to episodes available on VEOH, I'm creeping my way towards an affinity for Bleach (like I needed another anime/manga obsession!). I have been toying with the idea of writing something FURUBA but it's been put on a back burner since I'm focusing on Ouran at present. I'm such a girl.

Thank you to everyone who has read, commented, and enjoyed my work. I crave release through writing and there is a big part of me that gets great satisfaction when something I have created brings others pleasure. I'm always open to constructive criticism and thank you to everyone who has guided me with their kind words. I hope you enjoy reading my fics as much as I enjoy writing them! (more, preferably :P) I always try to respond directly to all of my reviews, but if I don't get a chance to, please know they are greatly appreciated.

'punzzle ;)

01/20/09 Wow! Holy Crap!
My no-updating streak continues. What can I say? I've always been inconsistent. I get into a journal-writing phase, for example, where I'm determined to write a little bit every day. And it lasts... for about a week. I've been kicking around this idea for Ouran for the past week or so, and I think the only reason I wrote it all out like that yesterday was because I was at home, sick, with my work computer open for emails. I couldn't sleep, but couldn't really get myself to do much of anything else, either. I didn't write chapter one out in my handy little notebook first, either. Just sat at the computer and typed it up. I notice now that, due to my fuzzy-headedness, there are more than a few silly typos. I apologize. I didn't edit nearly as well as I would have normally; by the time I was done, my eyes were worn out. I promise to update as often as I can manage ;)
What I'm Reading Now: The Alchemist, Paulo Coelho and A Million Tiny Pieces, James Frey.
What's on my iPod ALL the Time: Liz Phair, Adele, and The Scissor Sisters.
Mood: Worn out (if that's a mood)--damn cold.
Writing: Poetry and Everyone Says 'I Love You', an Ouran HSHC fanfic.

04/15/07 Holy Mother of...!
Bad, BAD updater! I'm SO SORRY! sigh You have no idea how much I WANT to write.. but I have a 15,000 word dissertation on the illustration of women's political space in advertising due in four months! And an article on Taiwan and two huge papers due in the next few weeks (which I haven't... actually... started...) SIGH! I was struck by this GREAT story idea (well... I think it's great, anyway) this morning for House so I'm going to TRY and start writing it in some spare time. Also, I'm DETERMINED to finish "And Then" (although it's unlikely anyone is reading it anymore :( ) but to do that I have to print off the three chapters that are posted and start new because I asked my sister to mail me my notebook which had the next two chapters in it, but she sent me the wrong one. So, I'm just going to have to go from scratch, but that's alright- I still remember the general direction I wanted it to go :) Also, I DO have the next chapter for "Something Wicked" in my notebook so I might be able to get that typed up in the next few (months?) somethings... (I'm just getting over a terrible cold, you'd THINK that would have been a good time to be writing, eh?).
Finally, I have recently become addicted to "Fruits Basket" (did you ever know of my anime fascination?) and have been getting little inspirations here and there for a pice for that, so stay tuned, hopefully it will come about. Currently, I'm loving my new House idea, so it's possible --likely even-- that I will post it before I get "Something Wicked" and "And Then" . I warn you, though, it's a bit on the racey side ;) smirk

12/21/06 Yikes!
I'm a bad updater! I've really really been wanting to write, but have had my life full of reading for class and so on, yuck. I'm home now for the Holidays and have tracked down my old notebooks so, once I'm through with finals in January, I should be updating And Then and definately Something Wicked. A 10 hour flight from London is no cup of tea yawns but, once finals (and my paper) are over and done with, I can get back to writing for fun (because I'm certainly not having any fun on my current projects!) SO sorry, yet again, for the horribly SLOW updates (I realize that And Then is over a year late now!) and I will do my best to remedy this fact as soon as time permits. Now that I have my notebooks, it will be much easier. Merry Christmas and other festive salutations :)

09/25/06 oi! wow!
Well, here I am, livin' in England. I've received some reviews from people asking me to finish And Then, and belive me, I want to. So sorry for the LOOOOONG break between updates. Moving to another country is exhausting. However, as my classes are slow to start (apparently, one of my profs is circling the globe and so two of my classes are post-poned for yet another week) and I only have one day of classes this week, I'm hoping to put a dent in my fics. Here's the thing- with all my packing, I have left my notebooks which had the next two chapters of And Then and the next chapter of Something Wicked. Arg! I've looked all over my laptop and it turns out I don't have ANY of my House fics saved on here, goodness knows why not! So, I'm torn. Do I re-write a chapter of And Then that I have left behind (problem is I was blocked on it and I remember liking it quite a bit), wait until Christmas when I come home and bring back my notebook (therefore pushing the update back another three months?) or see if my sister can mail it to me... hrm. I'll do my best and hope to be updating SOON. Cheers!

05/30/06 I'm such a slow-poke...
My updates come in waves. When I'm on a roll, I'm on a roll and I can write chapter after chapter in quick succession. When I'm preoccupied with something else --a large project at work, getting ready to leave for England and school-- I can go a long stretch without updating. For instance, it struck me the other day that I hadn't yet finished the House fic I was working on that was about last season's finale. So sorry! Now that my presentation at work is finally over --and I'll be leaving my job in two and a half months to prepare for the UK-- I should have some time to update and hopefully complete And Then while continuing Something Wicked which is, to date, planned out to be my longest fic yet.Thank you to everyone who has been reading and reviewing, and know that I am working on these. :)

04/12/06 Update...
Hello hello-- wow, quite the rant last time, eh? Well, here I am, finally updating some of my Fics. So sorry to the House M.D. fans-- I seem to be road-blocked in And Then but am coming close to moving out of it. In the meantime, I have put alot of my time into my first ever Law and Order: SVU fic entitled "Something Wicked This Way Comes". I would love if people would read and review as it is the first time I've tried my hand at this show, which I'm completely in love with. Working on "And Then", I swear, but it doesn't look like I'll have much else House to work with this season. Maybe in the off-season something will hit me. I promise to keep working on it. :) Thanks to all those who have read and reviewed both my House fics (just a note, I am done with "Darkeness" and will not be adding anything more; I don't really see a sequel in its future, but everything is open to debate) and also my recent SVU fic, especially to those who have been so helpful in answering my questions. Must be off now as it's very late, or early? Toodles.

02/21/06 Grrr...
So, I think I'm getting a little sick of cowards who leave ridiculous, anti-constructive messages about... a spelling error. Need I point out that, like all (or at least most) of those reading and writing here, "I am human" and therefore prone to imperfection? At first I had my anonymous references blocked, but thought I was missing out on an important sect of reviewers who, out of basic shyness perhaps, were not comfortable leaving a name, or were even moreso uncomfortable leaving a name with any sort of negative criticism. But I don't think I've really received many constructive comments from the anyonmous group at all- if you like my work, I'm thrilled! I love to write, and am currently working my ass off to make a career out of it -not narrative, clearly, but writing nevertheless; if you dislike my work, or have comments on how I might improve, please, by all means, let me know. The only way I will improve and grow is through being told what I am doing wrong. Thanks to everyone who has left fantastic, helpful, interesting comments:)
