My Answer to the Idiots Who Think I Just Ship Roxas/Axel Because It's Yaoi:
It's all in the subtext! Like dialogue, inflection, that sort of thing. Some of the dialogue in KH2 is very suggestive towards them being together. Especially in the way it's said. The great thing about the KH dialogue is that it's all open to interpretation. For example, the infamous line "He made me feel like I had a heart." But anyway, let's not get into that now.

One of my reasons is that it's obvious that Axel at least, cares very deeply for Roxas. Which after playing through the game, I found odd. Especially when you bring CoM Axel into consideration. I mean, Nobodies not feeling and all that stuff? CoM, yes. KH2? He pretty much defies all logic. And the claim that the nobodies only pretend to have feelings didn't sit right for him either. He was prepared to kidnap, kill, betray the Organisation and eventually DIE for Roxas. That's not something that suggests pretence to me. And sure, I know that you may think "They were best friends, why wouldn't he die for him?" but you have to remember: Axel is a Nobody. Nobodies work completely differently to us due to the virtue of having no hearts. In CoM, certainly, Axel acts like the coldest Nobody ever to walk the worlds. But by KH2, he seems to have softened a little. Why? ROXAS. Axel is definately not the sort of person who would normally be prepared to die for anyone he knows, even his friends. But he gives up everything he has for the sake of Roxas. Doesn't that suggest that their relationship goes beyond the level of mere friendship - which Nobodies shoudn't be able to have in the first place, I might add.

It just seems like a REALLY close friendship, in some cases a lot closer than some of the established relationships you see between Somebodies in the game. Like it has the potential to be something more - I mean, there's an entire YEAR between CoM and KH2 that we know nothing about! To me, Roxas and Axel seem a lot like soulmates - whether that's a soulmate situation between lovers or extremely close friends is open to interpretation, which is a great thing. The thing about those two being soulmates is that it really does go above and beyond friendship - on both sides.

And here even some fellow shippers might disagree. Roxas gets really bad press in the game - the only times we see him, he isn't exactly being that nice to Axel. So a lot of people see it as a one-sided thing. Which I don't agree on. Sure, Roxas is a Nobody too - and everything about the Nobodies is manipulation - but Axel isn't the sort of person who would put up with someone who took everything and gave nothing back, because part of his character is that he's a very selfish person. The Roxas that we don't see in the year between the two games - the Organisation XIII Roxas - does seem like an immensely cold person, but to be best friends with Axel must mean that Axel means a hell of a lot to Roxas as well. Roxas doesn't seem like the sort of person who would let any old person get remotely close to him - in fact I think anyone trying would be more likely to get keybladed. So it follows logically that Roxas DID give Axel something - he gave him an emotional heart and something or one to care about - and he gave him a friend.

Now, let's assume and pretend like rational human beings that they ARE a couple, and consider this at the same time - it's canon that Nobodies don't like to be touched much. If Axel and Roxas are a couple, I don't think it would be all cuddling and stuff. Unlike a lot of fans, I don't think it would all be about the sexual side of the relationship either - more like the complete opposite! I think that there'd maybe be the occasional contact, but it would be more like first trying to figure out why exactly the other makes them "feel" different, and then more like knowing that they "feel" that way about each other and have something more than the other Nobodies... it's very complicated, which somehow makes it more real than some of the more canon relationships - like Tifa and Cloud or Aerith and Cloud, for example.

In short, even if you don't pair 'em together romantically, it's pretty simple. Axel cares about Roxas. Roxas, at least pre-memory screwing Roxas, despite his coldness, cares about Axel.
