Author has written 12 stories for Patriot, Sherlock Holmes, Brotherhood of the Wolf, Misc. Movies, Village, Les Miserables, Kingdom of Heaven, Misc. Tv Shows, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Beauty and the Beast, and Tess of the D'Urbervilles. I am a 40-something Scots historian/art historian, most recently working in university admin. History, literature, art, politics & c & c are my main passions. I'm a published non-fiction author: I've written a historical biography, edited 18C letters (Scottish and Russian) for publication, and numerous articles on a range of subjects. I have written fanfic for The Patriot (sic: I think of it as The Scud) from a Loyal pov, and a Conan Doyle/Hardy story in which Holmes and Watson investigate the stabbing of the unfortunate young Mr. d'Urberville. I have written a Ronald Firbank-y Le Pacte des Loups (Brotherhood of the Wolf) short story with a hint of Firbank, and a prologue based on the loosely RLS-inspired Napoleonic swashbuckler St Ives (All for Love). I love Les Mis (book and most film/musical versions), and Peter Watkins' brilliant (and very long) dramatisation La Commune: Paris 1871. I thought it would be interesting to speculate what Marius was up to then…I've started a fic on The Village: I was most upset at poor Noah's fate, and was determined he should be rescued. I've been working more recently on Kingdom of Heaven fics. I just need more time to finish everything! My most recent complete story is Survivors, a mildly warped rom-com/drama based on the 1983 supernatural thriller/Gothic romance TV serial, The Dark Side of the Sun. Watching the serial again in 2007, the OTP was so obvious that I was stunned we didn't get it! The two most interesting characters – the Templar and the psychiatrist – are made for each other! So I have brought them together, with the help of one or two original characters, trobador allusions, and some historical snarking. I am now getting back into the Notre Dame de Paris (aka Hunchback of Notre Dame) fandom, a passion of mine since my teens (blame François Villon!). I am deeply disturbed by its Disneyfication, and console myself by imagining Dom Claude solemnly excommunicating those responsible. I have a long-term tendresse for that young man: the somewhat Dostoevskian, tortured and passionate intellectual as tragic hero/anti-hero… or, from where I'm sitting, toy-boy. In Last Year's Snows, I'm making a happier ending for him and the others. I'm also doing a Disneyverse fic (to pull something from the wreckage!): the cameo-appearance by Belle (from Disney's Beauty & the Beast) inspired me to weave a Beauty & the Beast plot thread into Disney's Notre Dame, in which near-tragedy brings together a scholarly young woman and an equally scholarly, if unattractive man. I should point out that h/c is a recurrent theme of mine. I blame it on early exposure to a Baroque St Sebastian in the art gallery I used to visit as a child. Doomed, damaged, but otherwise lovely young men in need of rescue are guaranteed to inspire me… As a friend of mine said, we grew up on the old swashbucklers, where if the hero didn't get his shirt off to get himself repaired at some point in the proceedings, you felt cheated! | |||||||||||
