Author has written 20 stories for Kim Possible, Teen Titans, Captain Planet, Resident Evil, hack/SIGN, Star Wars, and Legend of Zelda. When I was younger, a teacher gave my class the "10 Rules for a Perfect short story writer" 1. Learn from the masters - Poe, Maupassant, Kipling, Chekov 2. The story is a manifestation of the art, so you cannot control it. You will achieve it withour necessarily knowing 3. Resist imitation, but imitate if the influence is strong enough. More then any other thing the development of a personality, a personal writing style, is a science. 4. Have faith not in your ability to succeed, but in your desire to do so. Give yourself to writing and writing will give itself to you. 5. Don't begin writing without knowing from the first word where you're going. The first three lines are just as important as the last three. 6. Ideas can't be too abstract - express an idea using the very words that convey your message 7. Don't use adjectives without necessity. A weak noun is not strengthened by an adjective 8. Don't abuse the reader. The characters must be taken by the hand along the path they follow. So must the reader be. Take this as the absolute truth. Even though it is not. 9. Don't write while consumed by emotion. Let it die. Art is emotion. Words themselves feel. 10. The effect of the story is confined to the world of the characters. It is to the reader what it is to them.
