Author has written 12 stories for Harry Potter. I study comparative literature with English literature as my minor, therefore I am very interested in all kinds of texts. In my opinion, fanfiction is a genre just like any other, so you get the good stuff, and the bad stuff, and the one in between. I love reading fanfiction since some stories are really inspiring, and I often wish that people could get things like these published. On the other hand, some stories are not only badly written, but also full of grammar and spelling mistakes, which is really annoying. Still, I poke my nose into them here and there because I want to see how bad it can get. It also helps improve my own writing style, for it shows me how to NOT do it. Sometimes I come across the ones that have a genuine plot idea, but the formatting of the document is horrible (e.g. the author does not know how to use the return key) or there are lots of grammar and spelling errors, which makes it tiresome to read. Those always make me feel very sad, for I know they would get more attention if the author had heeded technical features, and it's quite easy to find a beta-reader who could see to these things. My favourite authors are Jane Austen, J. K. Rowling and Terry Pratchett.
