Author has written 9 stories for Dragon Ball Z, Star Wars, and Forever Knight. Hi. Call me Rimera. Favorite hobbies: Do you really want to know this about me? Or, would you prefer to discuss literary topics? That is why you're here, isn't it? So, let's get on with the writing stuff! Favorite Stories: Yes, I know, you could just check my "Favorites" list, but I put all kinds of stories on that list, mostly so I don't have to go looking for them if I want to finish reading them later. But these are my Absolute Favorites: It started out as a few shouts out to my favorite writers, but the list got so long, that now... I'm dedicating my profile to these amazing writers. Complicated Beginning by Amiko-san. This story is beautifully written, a true wonder. If you are a married woman (or hope to be... or will never be, even) you will absolutely love this fic. All about those first years after Chi chi and Goku get married... the behind-the-scenes stuff Toriyama would never show you. Very touching, very realistic, very well done, and not OOC at all! For the Love of a Child by srusse87. Gohan's mother dies giving birth to Goten, and Gohan runs away with his baby brother and cares for him. Lots of angst, but good angst, lots of father-son anger that gets resolved. I want to thank the author for writing this... your life must have been full and rocky, because I relate so much to everything you wrote. I'm not as far on the path to forgiveness as Gohan is, but maybe, my father and I will have the same kind of reunion? And to those who have never read it, I encourage you to do so... it is by far the best piece of fanfiction I have ever read, and I've read Complicated Beginning! Warning: you will definitely cry. You'll also laugh, scream, and spend hours in front of the computer, as your view of the world shifts, ever so slightly. Dynasty by Valerie Vancollie and Rebecca Thomson. Basically, instead of escaping the Death Star after having helped rescue Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker gets shot in the leg, and, after speaking with his father, is trained by him in the ways of the Dark Side. Yes, yes, I know what you all are thinking... but this story is very, very good. The background is changed a bit, but not much... most of the changes involve Luke's upbringing by Owen Lars and how his mother died. But the changes are believable, and the plot is unpredictable. The writing style is, of course, flawless, with very long chapters and edge-of-your-seat plot twists. The story convinces you that the Empire is right and the Rebellion is wrong, without making either side look spotlessly heroic; instead, it shows the alternate viewpoints of war that all of us in the real world are accustomed to. Also, it gives insight into the political workings of the Empire, or the "cloak and dagger stuff", as Luke calls it. But don't worry... the politics are as funny and exciting as the fight scenes, and before you know it, even the most die-hard Jedi fans will be crying out, "Death to the Rebellion!" Not recommended for Jedi Padawans, as this story will, definitely, lead you to the Dark Side. Prime Priority-Part One-The Padawaning, by Heavysaber. Actually, all of this series. They are one chapter a piece, but there are, like, five of them, going from parts one through three, and then including A Sub Rosa and A Small Step. My favorite is the last one, but you must read the others to get there, and each chapter is funny and endearing. Qui-gon Jinn gets a new apprentice... Obi-wan Kenobi! These stories are all about how padawan and master got to know each other, and shows a peek at what life was like for the two at the Jedi Temple. Not grotesque, not angsty, though it does deal with real issues. And, Obi-wan did get in trouble, from time to time. A Simple Decision by Darquecyder 6. And all sequels. What would happen if, instead of taking Leia, Bail Organa decided to take Luke with him to Aldaraan? Lots of craziness, apparently! Join Prince Luke Organa, the fiesty Leia Skywalker, the Jawa Het Krex, and the rest of the Rebellion and Jedi survivors of the Purges against the evil Empire! It's like Star Wars, only much, much bigger. Better fighting, the Rebellion's more resourceful, the Emperor's more evil, Darth Vader has an apprentice, and there's even fighting within the Empire itself! Read it, it's absolutely great! And (can I tell them, Darquecyder?) a certain "organic meatbag"-hating droid may show up where you least expect him! Query: would you like to have a hint, meatbags? The Worst Thing by SwimAngel. Okay, you've all read them, some have liked them, (some have written them!), but most have hated them. I think we can all agree that the worst thing in fanfiction is a Mary Sue! The main characters of Star Wars are locked in a room in the afterlife with nothing to do but read this mysterious book... about Perfectua Bellenina, the most annoyingly written Mary Sue of all time! Will our heroes survive? Or will they all go insane? And how about the readers? Even if you like the occasional Mary Sue, you will love to hate Perfectua Bellenina. Warning: do not drink any form of beverage while reading. Two people I know have made this mistake, and one of them was me! Your computer, clothing, and lungs will thank you for this precaution! Shadows of the Future by stormqueen873. Wow. I'm not sure what to say... it's as if this writer had no flaws. I started reading this because I love a good time-travel fic, but I found a SPECTACULAR time-travel fic! Ever read a fic where you were completely pulled into the story? This is one of THOSE! I laughed, I cried, I yelled, I hooted, I made my husband think I was absolutely nuts! Perfectly smoothed... it has angst, tempered by love and bonding, it has heart-wrenching drama, tempered by utter hilarity, it has kick-ass fight scenes, calming and scenic meditation scenes, and you have absolutely no clue what's going to happen until you get to the end! No gimmicks, no tricks... just spectacular writing, it gives you time to think, but waiting for the page to load the next chapter will seem to take forever, no matter what your internet speed! Truly a diamond in the rough, this story's like a swimming pool on Tatooine... truly magnificent! Some stories I already like as well as I love these, and I have simply forgotten them. But, I will add to the list as I find them. Note, there are some stories I really, really love, but the reasons behind that are less about the good writing than about certain small features the story has. I kept these to myself. Just know, there are stories I haven't put up here on the list that I like to read over and over and over. But, the stories that I put up, I know for a fact everyone (who can read English) will thoroughly enjoy. If you hate it when people copy and paste these stupid sentences in bold onto their profiles, copy and paste this to your profile. (LOL!) | |||||||||||
