Welcome to this little corner of fanfiction.net I like to call my own...sort of. If you've clicked to come here, I may even hazard so far as to guess you want to know a little bit about me, so here goes:
Name: Emma
Age: 18
Location: Flintshire, North Wales
Variety of creatures under my care: Five fish, two cats, seven chickens and my lovely collie-cross, Meg.
Enjoys: Reading. Duh. And writting. And, occasionaly, when I decide to take a break from my hermit status, I may even join an MSN conversation or two, with the lovely people who make up our Welsh/Guernsey/New Zealand gang. (Which happened to come about due to this site). Baking, walking, writting, randomly re-writting songs and playing my various instrauments (bassoon, euphonium, piano, trombone) should also feature, I suppose.
Hates: Good plots which happen to bad authors. Unfinished stories. Hannah being the other side of the bloody WORLD! (A close friend of mine upped and moved half way round the planet in February '07, after her dad got a job offer. We're currently schemeing on stealing her back.)
Fears: Wasps and bees (I'm allergic), foxes/badgers getting me chickens, and hairdressers. They are un-natural beings.
Current educational status: 6th Form, Year 13. (Like 7th Year Harry Potter-wise).
When-I-am-a-big-person-I-want-to-be: A vet. Don't ask me why, I'm not entirly sure myself.
Instruments: Piano (Gr 8.), Bassoon (Gr 7.), Euphonium (dunno, never done an exam...) and Trombone (only been playing since Christmas '06, so anything goes!)
As of 24th of August 2006, moi's GCSE results were:
8 A Stars in Music, Maths, Geography, English Lit and Language, Science (x2) and RE
2 A's in French and Drama
1 C in Welsh (Wahoo, go me!)
And come 16th August 2007, my AS results were:
4 B's in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Geography. (One mark off an A in the last! ONE MARK!)
A in General studies
Loves:
His Dark Materials - Sally Lockhart - Robin Hood (BBC version) - Harry Potter - Doctor Who - Bones - Artimus Fowl - Torchwood - Pirates of the Caribbean - Star Wars - Lord of the Rings - Spiderman (films) - American Dragon - Kim Possible - Fillmore! - Mediator - Various other random books/films/TV Shows.
Favourite Pairings:
Harry/Ginny - Fred/Angelina - Ron/Hermione - Sally/Fred - Tonks/Lupin - Will/Lyra - Lily/James - Holly/Trouble - Neville/Luna - Doctor (9 or 10)/Rose - Jack/Doctor/Rose - Jack/Gwen - Jack/Ianto - Gwen/Owen - Bones/Booth - Angela/Jack - Elizabeth/Will - Hans/Leia - Luke/Mara Jade - MaryJane/Peter - Rose/Jake - Kim/Ron - Fillmore/Ingrid - Jesse/Suze -
And I get seriously disturbed by:
- Harry/Hermione - Harry/Malfoy - Hermione/Snape - Artimus/Holly - Elizabeth/Jack Sparrow - Most things which have originated in my sisters mind -
And I suppose Beth deserves a mention too. She's my sister, who apparently proof-reads stuff for me, although certain evidence does point to the contary. She's also a pyromaniac, and myself and my family live in fear of her burning the house down around us. Any flames I receive are given to her to play with.
(By the way, I'm writing dates out in full because of the whole cross-pond thing. I know you Americans write short-hand dates different to us.)
15th March 2008 - Opps. Quite possibly my longest update-lack-there-of. January exams have been and gone, February saw another Guernsey-Wales visit, all work on the pond has halted, and HTCHB is finished. Sort of. The revised edition I was planning on sorting by Christmas...well, it wasn't sorted. Exams and revision sort of got in the way. So, it'll be my summer project instead. One of them. So hopefully the revised edition will be up sort of September time. And A Life Less Ordinary...well, that went on hold sometime last summer. It will be revived, and perhaps even published, once HTCHB is finally trully over. Sometime in the Autumn, hopefully. At which point, exam results provided, I'm heading down South to Bristol for University...laptop travelling with me, of course! You might not see my around much for the next few months, what with exams and so on, but I'll always be back. Nowt can keep me away for long!
8th November 2007 - Ho hum, thought it time to stick up an update...and since the school computers have suddenly started letting us on this site, now seemed as good a time as any. We've just had a fire alarm, it's tipping down with rain, I have no coat, we're all verrry soggy...so I'm drying as I type. If I end abruptly in the middle of this, it means I've eletrocuted myself. Sorry. Sooo...HTCHB...two chapters to go! And then it's done! Sort off...there will be an epilogue type thing gong up on Christmas day, just to finish off everyone's stories, but in terms of the current plot, that'll be finished by the end of November. There will be NO SEQUEL. The story is told; there is little left to write. I leave the rest to your imaginations - Harry Potter and the Fairly Normal Year is just not a riviting read, I reckon! And I've seen too many good stories ruined by the unnescessary sequels. Occasionally, I am tempted by the idea of a prequel - the Marauders at Hogwarts sort of thing, but I doubt it. It's been done so many times before, I'd just be throwing in a few different charecters.
What I will be doing between now and Christmas, however, is going back over HTCHB have editing, cutting, adding and generally fixing all the typo's and unesscessary fillers, and generally having a bit of a clean up. (The loose/lose thing being top of the list!) That should hopefully be done in time for the final epilogue. Other than that, don't expect anything anytime soon - once HTCHB is over, I'm focusing on passing my final year of school - I sit the muggle equvilant of NEWTs in January and June this school year, and to get onto the course I want (VetMed) I need three As.
So yeah...summer is over with, I'm in my final year of full time education, life-defining exams are in a few months...Hannah's still in New Zealand, we can't find a weekend for our Welsh/Guernsey meet-up...the Harry Potter Wait is over with for the final time, with mixed reactions (ONE LINE for Lupin and Tonks! ONE LIINE!)...and I'm digging a duck pond. Life trundles on.
17th June 2007 - An eventful two months! Exams are done, done and done! Until January, anyway. HTCHB is falling into it's final phase...only a few months to go, story wise, so I'm hoping to wrap it all up over the summer. Hopefully. I've discovered a whole host of new loves, courtousy of late night American cartoons! Filmore, American Dragon, Kim Possible...my sister dispears of me ever being normal again. Not that I was normal to begin with, but hey. And I have three lovely chicks, now several weeks old and looking rather ugly! So all is not too bad.
18th April 2007 - Hey ho, into April we go. And so exams grow ever nearer, my writting time shrinks ever smaller...I'm just about keeping up with HTCHB, but everything else - well, A Life Less Ordinary - is on hold. Which, since I've not published it yet, doesn't really matter anyway. So yeah. Not a lot else happening really...Uni open days - Liverpool today, met up with a couple of friends I met on VetLink last December - Easter, which heralded, at last, the return of my biscuit eating-ness! Thank the lord for that! It also meant a trip to London, to see Les Mis, which was alright. Well, the play was. London itself was awful. And 4 Counties Music course, which was...better than I had thought it would be. Even if my ex-fellow Flintshire bassooning person didn't come. So between London for 3 days, 4 Counties for 6, and lovely, lovely reivision for the rest, I did maybe a quarter of the writting I had planned to do. Whoopee. I am determined to finish HTCHB this summer, so maybe sometime around Christmas I might reach the final strech...if I'm lucky...
Quotes of a fanfiction-ish nature...mostly one's that have caught my eye while reading various fanfics, a few from other locations...
While Harry was brave, honest and kind, at least Ron could be relied upon for irrational and impulsive acts of daftness.
The world doesn't end because the Docter dances.
"What are you doing here?” hissed Sirius, pulling himself to his feet and leaning against the wall for support. Snape sighed. “Most unfortunately – saving you.”
As most sentients in the galaxy knew, offending a Sith Lord was very hazardous to one’s health.
Darth Vader, the Dark Lord of the Sith, and sometimes matchmaker for unrequited love.
"That is so Welsh."
"What?"
"I show you something fantastic, you find fault."
"Because, deep down, we are all blonde..." - Something my Guernsian friend Jenny said one very random MSN conversation
James shook his head vehemently. “What are friends for, Padfoot, if not to eat chocolate pie on their comatose friend’s bed?”
“That’s my point, though. He’s sort of not awake at the moment. So what happens when he wakes up and finds little bits of chocolate pie all over his sheets? He won’t be happy.”
“This is a brotherly bonding session, Padfoot. We can’t exclude him. He’s here in spirit.”
"Italian? Isn't that a dead language?"
"No dear, that's Latin." - My sister and me respectivly.
"I imagine they nabbed him for drunk and disorderly again. Or maybe assault and battery. With Dwarves, the difference isn’t particularly marked.”
“I don’t bother making sentimental speeches very often,” said Aragorn evenly, “and when I do, I very much dislike being snubbed.”
"You've done…nothing wrong?" finished Snape, looking up at Sirius in disbelief. "How unlike you."
“Geniuses,” said Booth with a shrug. “They’ve surpassed the need for oxygen."
The other woman continued to look stunned. "You're having it off with your dead lover's identical twin?"
“So you’ve chosen a life of filing and incredibly dangerous subterfuge against the Ministry when you’ve run out of paper clips?”
“That’s pretty much what bravery is, Perce. Now, you’re on an excruciatingly dangerous, self- appointed mission that reeks of death and danger and that is really unlikely to lead to any route but certain death and you didn’t ask me to help?”
"And you don’t know who to trust any more or what even to think because the Ministry changes its policies so quickly and all I can really do without risking death is to ensure that when our doom arrives it’s spelled correctly!"
“Not dying is very easy,” Oliver said, pacing. “I have frequently not been dead.”
‘Is that understood?’ I demanded, seizing his chin with one of my hands authoritatively. He looked me in the eye, and then nodded. ‘In regards to CeeCee Webb,’ he promised, ‘I solemnly swear I will get up to no good.’
Darn him and his insistence that the majority of our activities should involve clothing.
He wanted her to get married, have a gaggle of children, and name them all John.
The stories you'll find below spilt into two catergories - those to read, and those to avoid like the plague.
Those to Avoid:
The Start of the End - Harry Potter. The final battle, and it's aftermath. Don't read it. First thing I ever wrote on this site, riddled with mistakes, typo's, and generally a rather rubbish story. I'd delete it, but I keep planning to go back and edit it at some point.
Chance and Hope - His Dark Materials. From the same time as SotE, and again, I wouldn't bother. Typical Lyra/Will reunion story that I could turn into a much better story - in that one at least I know there is some scope for more. Anyone interested in having a shot of re-doing it themselves, let me know!
Shadows in the Breeze - Harry Potter. Very odd, even for me. Better, I think, than the above two, but maybe only because it's short! Tonks and Remus after Dumbledores death.
Two Words - Harry Potter. My first real attempt at a one shot, came out very oddly. Possibly nearing ok standerd. The graves of the Wizard War heros.
An Ending Worse Than Death - Harry Potter. Never could make my mind up on this one. A "Harry wakes up and it was all a dream" scenario.
The above were all published within my first 6 months on this site, when I'd had little practise and no proof reader. Some day I will go back and edit them, but I'm not sure when. The next few I'm much more proud of - I actually thought about them, and the above atrosities did have the advantage of at least letting me practise and improve.
The rest:
Harry Potter; The Musical/The Phantom Musical/The 12 Musicals of Christmas - A bit of fun between my sister and I, will evuentually be finished, but on hiatus at the moment. Just as it says on the tin - musical versions of Harry Potter.
The Life and Times - Doctor Who. Rose's life after Doomsday, minus any hint of suicide, child, depression or reunion. Possibly my favourite story to date.
The Them I Used to Know - Torchwood. Series of oneshots based on Tosh's thoughts at the end of "Greeks Baring Gifts". Slightly odd, but I suspect you're getting used to that by now.
How Things Could Have Been - Harry Potter, first proper big project, finished bar final re-editing. Lily and James Potter survived that fateful Halloween. Re-written, with actual plot!
Epilogue - PotC. Because we have far too many frees in the last few weeks of term before the summer, and I felt like a bit of angsty scribbling. Will Turner, because not every ending is happy.
A Week By the Sea - Harry Potter. One year after the end of the war. The start of me coming to terms with the end of it all. Fighting with the Life and Times for top spot.
As Long As You Love Me So - Harry Potter. An exploration into my strange love of Penny and Percy, response to TheOriginalHufflepuff's Twelve Fics of Christmas challenge. Might even finish it before next Christmas, too!
To Live Another Day - Robin Hood. Because the BBC made me cry, and I refuse to accept it. First attmept at what I believe is referred to as a crackfic.
May the Force/Light/ Whatever religion you follow be with you!
