Enter, stranger, hurry in
See the thoughts now on display
The musings, dreams, petty notions
Rainbow colours, and shades of grey.
The brief and oft a touch dramatic
Poignant words a poor soul said,
Love and war, stories, hope,
Enter now the Ghost’s head.

I'm Violin Ghost, and there are probably a few things you should know about me:

I write for practice just as much as pleasure. I've been reading and writing fanfiction for quite a while now, just because I enjoy it. Reading is always a pleasure - reading about well-loved characters whose stories made me cry when they ended at the last page is even more delicious. However, though I do love writing fanfiction, I write to practice, too. It allows me to try on different styles of writing and see how comfortable a fit they make - which is why you'll see a pretty motley assortment of stories on this account, though I do try my best to publish stories of quality. I think of it as a batch of cookies made by an inexperienced baker (i.e. moi, the inexperienced writer) - some will turn out terrible, some will be so-so, and some, by inspiration, perseverance, or utter fluke, will turn out perfect.

That was possibly the worst analogy ever, but I guess it works.

I'm strict about my grammar. One of the few things that turn me off is bad grammar, examples being loose instead of lose, your instead of you're, misplaced punctuation, etc. However, I don't claim to be perfect. Of course I'll slip up sometimes! I'd really, really appreciate it if you took the time to point out any grammatical errors I may have made.

I'm a sporadic writer. I'll write three stories in five days and then won't update for six months. It's happened. I'm sorry. I think my high school might be an undercover experiment initiated by the government, where they observe just how much work, stress, tears, and figurative blood a teenager can endure before he/she cracks. Needless to say, we're the lab rats. I hope it's a valid reason for my occasional laziness when it comes to writing.

And speaking of updating... I feel I owe some readers an explanation concerning my second published story, Two Weddings and Several Funerals. I know I promised an update, and I know that update hasn't appeared in over a year, but I have my reasons. See, I first wrote it when I was a thirteen year old - an excitable, eager thirteen year old. I dreamed the story up in bed, wrote an extensive outline, scribbled out the first chapter, and churned out thousands of words. I wrote out the chapters I pictured most vividly in my head - I grew to love my characters. All of this happened over the course of... two or three days, I think. In my eagerness, I published the first chapter - and then I reread. Suddenly, I saw plot holes, plot holes so enormous I couldn't understand how I'd missed them the first time. I saw weak writing. I saw... I saw a lot of things, but by then it was too late - people had already read the story. I decided not to take it down, but rework the entire concept and publish the next chapters when I was ready.

Now that I'm fifteen, I've decided to take a stab at it again. I've retitled it If I Fell, inspired by the Beatles, and up until a few days ago I was stuck, thinking about how I could fix the plot. And then suddenly, it hit me. It was staggering, really. I'm hard at work, now, and I've replaced the first chapter with a new and improved version. It's not perfect, of course, but I think it'll be all right. And if it kills me, I'm going to finish it.

I'm a lover of canon. It's just a weird thing I have - I won't read Draco/Hermione, for instance, because it isn't canon. Still less will I read Draco/Harry. And I did love the fact that JKR released little tidbits of After, like the people the Weasleys married and Luna's kids, and I do consider them canon. By the same token, I don't enjoy reading stories in which characters are OOC - but I enjoy a good AU.

I'm beginning to be a bit relaxed about the whole canon thing, though - I feel that I'm limiting my range by only reading a certain type of story, and I greatly admire those who say they'll read anything. Little things like James dating Lily in sixth year, not seventh, don't bother as much as they used to, which might be taken for a sign that I'm improving. (At least, I hope so.)

I read and write for different fandoms. These are mainly Lord of the Rings, my very first fandom; Harry Potter, the one in which I'm currently steeped; Chronicles of Narnia, which I hope to write more for in the near future; the Bartimaeus Trilogy, ditto; Artemis Fowl, which I used to enjoy until Eoin Colfer basically butchered the last few books; and several others.

I love reviews. I'll always reply to a review, because I think an important aspect of FanFiction.net is that we can interact with our readers. Even more important is the fact that readers can tell the author what they think, and it's rather sad that reviewing is dying out in some fandoms.

The Reviews Lounge

And something I wrote as part of a collaboration on the Reviews Lounge:

The Hallowe'en Man from Something Wicked This Way Comes, featuring Astoria Greengrass and Draco Malfoy.

And finally, a universal disclaimer, because I always seem to forget to include one in my stories:

Disclaimer: Maya Angelou once said:

Sun, rain, curving sky,
Mountain, oceans, leaf and stone,
Star shine, moon glow,
You're all that I can call my own.

I claim little details worked into my stories, but little else. The characters, settings, and everything else belong to the author, and the author alone. I just enjoy frisking around in their playground.
