Author has written 22 stories for StarTrek: Enterprise, Star Wars, and NCIS. I'm a persistently single, disgruntled writer and gamer (video games and RPGs), ex-infantryman who occasionally wonders why I left Uncle Sam before remembering that I fraking hate mornings. And yeah, I'm one of those rarities: a male who writes fanfiction. I'm also actively seeking employment again (thanks to the economy tanking under the socialist morons - pick a party; they both suck - so many of you elected in '06 and '08) so my spare time is generally sunk into writing. And seriously, if you want to gripe about something in my fraking profile that you don't agree with, send a PM. DON'T spam one of my fics with reviews that have absolutely nothing to do with the damned story. Not only is it rude, it makes you look like an immature troll actively trying to start a fight that you wouldn't dare to start in real life because it might get you punched in the face for being a jackass. Anonymous reviews like that are simply deleted, and logged in Users who spam up the reviews just go in the Blocked Users. My NCIS fic "Too Late" was awarded Best AU/Other in the 2009 LJ Fanfiction Awards, so I guess I'm an "award-winning" fanfiction author now. Major thank yous to everyone who voted for me. My dislikes in most fandoms: Wildly OOCness that doesn't have any basis in actual canon (which nicely encompasses the next couple of dislikes); slash regardless of gender - as a straight guy, homosexual relationships don't interest me in the slightest and I frankly don't understand the appeal when it is between two characters clearly shown to be heterosexual in canon (makes the entire story OOC) ... and don't get me started on the utterly insane male pregnancy tripe; crack!pairings that have absolutely no basis in canon apart from the author not liking the canon OTP, especially when the two characters never met on the canon show (I've seen a bunch of Kate Todd/Ziva David fics of late which fall into this category and the previous one as well); songfics, because if I want to read song lyrics, I'll look for them; very bad grammar (it's one thing if English isn't one's native language, but when someone uses "u" in place of "you" or seems uninterested in doing a simple spell check, I lose interest, no matter if the plot is the best thing since sliced bread); fics set in 'high school' when the canon characters themselves are older than 20; spanking or discipline fics; the usual baby cliches; lack of research on the part of the author (treating the Marine rank Gunnery Sergeant as if it were a job or position, for example, or the fact that a Vulcan (copper-based blood) somehow gets pregnant by or impregnates a Human (iron-based blood) without extensive medical assistance. Thus, I'm very picky about what I read and enjoy. I apologize in advance if that makes me seem like an elitist... Status: I don't know what to tell you. My Muse is all over the damned place right now. First and foremost, I am devoting most of my free time toward a piece of Original Fiction that I hope to eventually sell (sci-fi novel), but when I can, I'm still working on my AU NCIS fic (Transitional States), trying to work on an Endeavour fic (a pair, actually), and also attempting to get some work done on both Divergent Paths and Shattered Dreams. So I honestly don't know what to tell you about what will come out next and when... Star Wars Until relatively recently, I was seriously wallowing in my love for the Star Wars franchise, however, (though, admittedly, that love pretty much dies out in the aftermath of the Thrawn Trilogy, has long since been buried by the time of the NJO, and doesn't even touch the character assassinating LOTF series). I recently made the horrible, horrible mistake of reading the jacket blurb (or whatever it was) of Del Rey's latest "screw up the fraking galaxy" series, and it caused my disgust for the direction they've taken the GFFA to resurface. The Unseen War Star Trek: Endeavour ENT fans...this is an AinT free zone. I am very much not a fan of CPT Archer as seen on the actual show despite being a fan of Scott Bakula (I grew up on Quantum Leap, and his casting was the only reason I bothered giving ENT a try), but I really try to prevent my dislike for the character as portrayed on the show (particularly the Super!Archer bovine excrement) out of my fiction. I am very much a fan of both T'Pol and Trip Tucker; despite some of the more absurd elements that tPtB decided to tack onto their canonical relationship (like the stupid trell-D addiction, the Sidekick!Polly motif and the equally inane extended angst of season 4), I thought they could have made an exceptional couple if retarded monkeys hadn't been writing the scripts. As a result, my fics will reflect that. The Endeavour series is an ongoing attempt by me to tell the Earth-Romulan War in a way that appeals to me as a heterosexual male so it will be light on romantic fluff and heavy on wartime action and drama (think of it as military sci-fi set in the Star Trek: Enterprise era); that isn't to say that I'll be excising the romantic elements, merely that I won't be emphasizing them over the fact that Earth is at war for its very survival. Fair warning: I've been called a bloodthirsty misanthrope and my stories reflect that. The Endeavour series takes place after the real finale of ENT, Terra Prime, and does not acknowledge that nonsensical "valentine" which was clearly propaganda spewed forth by supporters of ADM Pressman in an attempt portray CDR Riker as an idiot. This is not a comprehensive list of fics but more a reflection of intent. The series consists of: Elysium (END-00) - complete Rant ahead: Having recently caught up with season 7 of NCIS (on DVR and not live as I promised), I couldn't help but to feel depressed following the most recent episode involving Franks when, in the brief few seconds that Ziva and Damon Werth/Worth/Whatever had together, they had more chemistry than Tony & Ziva have had for two seasons. For the so-called canon ship of the show, Tiva is pretty much DOA. I'm still trying to figure out how their relationship "rapidly evolved" (as exec producer Shane Brennan said it would) in the first five episodes of season 7 since they pretty much stopped interacting after 7x02 so we could get deluged with the overblown and frankly unnecessary Gibbs/Ziva stuff that has dominated the show since then; if by evolved Mr. Brennan meant "get back to status quo and then stagnate" then yeah, it's certainly done that. The real sad part of it, though, is that the first two episodes of season 7 totally kicked butt ... and then, they started rapidly dropping in quality almost in stride with Tony's backslide in characterization (coincidence? I think not.) Is it really that hard to write him like they did earlier? Compare the DiNozzo of "Legend" or "Semper Fidelis" or the inane "Aliyah" or the fantastic "Truth and Consequences" (where were the consequences, BTW? Ziva broke a whole host of laws in season 6 including assaulting her partner and is punished ... with special agent status and a fast-tracked American citizenship. Huh.) with his borderline xenophobic remarks in "Outlaws and In-Laws." Seriously, for a guy who "couldn't live without" Ziva, he's being written as a complete dick. Ziva isn't innocent either; her half-hearted apology in 7x02 didn't even begin to cover the crap she needed to apologize to Tony for, and the fact that everyone has so quickly forgiven her is laughable, particularly since the show has seemingly forgotten about the emails Abby & McGee discovered in "Aliyah" implicating Ziva as an accomplice at worst, accessory at best to what Rivkin pulled. But hey, she got tortured and brutalized and raped (although it apparently wasn't anything that couldn't be healed with a quick shower following 7x01), so let's just give her a free pass for all of the laws she broke from "Legend" on into "Aliyah." So, yeah. TIVA? It's over. Dead. Finished. Kaput. The writing is very clearly on the wall: they're going to extend this 'will-they-won't-they' BS for as long as possible in a desperate attempt to keep both the Tiva fans and the anti-Tiva fans happy, which will result in pissing both fanbases off and make an already unrealistic "relationship" even more unbelievable. They should cowboy the frak up and either do it or just drop the entire freaking idea and let the two characters get on with their damned lives. Let Tony hook back up with Jeanne (since, if you go by canon, she's apparently the only woman he's actually been in love with, even if I really disliked her character and saw more chemistry between him and his shoulder holster), let Ziva hook up with the musclehead Damon, and just MOVE ON. I honestly don't understand how anyone (regardless of ship preference) can like how the showrunners have warped and distorted the characters recently: Tony has gone from a funny guy to an unmitigated jackass who needs to be hit with a shovel, Ziva needs to check into the psych ward at Bethesda, and McGee needs to get the hell out of DC before he too turns into a complete asshole. In the meantime, I'm going to be watching The Mentalist since apparently that's where the quirky sense of fun that NCIS used to have has gone. What? Oh, yeah. Dissatisfied. A lot. And totally unable to comprehend why everyone is gushing over season 7 or why the ratings are as high as they are. End Rant. | |||||||||||
