Author has written 4 stories for Harry Potter. This is taken from my LiveJournal, its a fairly long introduction to my weird and wonderful life. If you have LJ feel free to add me: www.livejournal.com/users/thorpeyfreak "Chris is so laid back, and i love that, but she will raise herself from this relaxed position of horizontality and will stand up for what she thinks and that is admirable. But the best thing? I'm sorry, i know it is a little weird, but she is so adaptable. It's not solely the fact that she can change continents minus jetlag/concern but it's the way she just seems to slot in with people and make them feel at home." My name is Christina Thorp and I'm 17. I'm currently studying for A-Levels (standard Post 16 education in England) in French, Chemistry, Physics and Philosophy & Ethics at a Grammar school near my home town. Philosophy & Ethics is my favourite subject at the moment because I love arguing and questioning everything, and I think I probably drive my teacher insane but I also make good points so I think its pretty balanced. When I finish my A-levels in June 2007 I want to go to the University of Bath or University of Exeter to study French and Spanish or Italian. I think if you asked anyone who knows me for one thing about me, pretty much everyone would say, she travels a lot or her dad lives abroad. Which is entirely true, lately people have been calling me jet-set.My Dad lived in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE until recently andhas just moved to Hong Kong.Luckily for me, I love travelling and having a father who lives abroad certainly aids this. Last year alone I have been on 8 holidays, and in my lifetime I've visited the majority of countries in Western Europe, however the only country outside Europe that I have visited is the UAE. Next year this is all going to change as I'm going to Peru and Bolivia with 20 students from my school for 4 weeks. I have lots of friends, or close aqquaintances at school and a few who I am closer toand many others who I get on really well with. I also have a great group of friends online - "the Turtlez", we all met on a fan site for the Russian tennis player Marat Safin and half of my globe trottinglast year has been with the purpose of seeing these wonderful people.I also made a fair few new friends this weekend when I was away for a rowing event in Holland, I was staying on a barge where I had only met one person before and that was my unoffical stepsister - Robyn, but everyone was great and I can't wait to see them all again at the World Championships. This leads me on to the fact that my biggest passion in life (hard to believe for the people that know me through tennis) is rowing, namely Cornish pilot gig rowing, which is a sport traditional to my area. (For more information www.cpga.co.uk). Every year I go to the World Championships in the Isles of Scilly and I have competed the last two years (coming 24th and then 33rd out of around 85). Competing in and experiencing the WPGC is the best thing I have ever done and probably will always be. Nothing compares to the mass start of around 85 boats. I also love tennis, and was lucky enough to play at the Aviation Club in Dubai where the Dubai Tennis Championships are held, this year thanks to my friend Vass who is a member there. I am, or certainly was, an avid follower of Men's professional tennis, in particular the Russian player Marat Safin. Whenever I get the chance, which considering I live in England isn't a lot, I love going skiing and I'm also lucky enough to be a member of a family with a 32ft yacht that I love sailing during the Summer. I also own a beautiful Perception kayak - its a playboat which is great for doing tricks. favourite bands: Kane, Krezip, Racoon, Anouk - these are all Dutch, Show of Hands (local folk band), Groove Armada, Basement Jaxx, the Killers, No Doubt, Nelly Furtado, the Darkness, Royksopp, Stereophonics, Mike Oldfield, Bloc Party, Maximo Park, Arctic Monkeys and Hard Fi. favourite films: The Transporter (I'm looking for a transporter...I'm listening...) Snatch (zee Germans?), Lock Stock & 2 Smoking Barrels (guns for show, knives for a pro), Love, Actually, Notting Hill, Taxi and Taxi 2 (ALERTE GENERALE!) favourite alcoholic drink: Amstel Bier! Brings back so many memories from my weekend in Holland about a month ago. Pimms (true English girl), Champagne - but only when I'm at the World Championships, because there it means something to me when I'm sunburnt, knackered, balanced on a wall screaming my head off. favourite quote: "Shit happens." "Sleep, what sleep? We are cutting loose!" favourite place to write: I write in the strangest places, the most common is my bedroom, either sat on my bed like write now with the laptop being a hot water bottle, or at my desk staring at my picture wall. I also write in my Philosophy & Ethics class, its a bright sunny room overlooking the back playground, and netball courts at my school, you can actually see most of the back of the school - 6th form study centre, main building, sports hall. I have written HP fanfiction sat in the window of my hotel room in Paris overlooking Place D'Ecole Militaire and the Eiffel Tower, I write in airpots commonly, on planes, and in the coolest cafe on earth - Cafe Alf Resco. pictures: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/thorpeyfreak2/100_0033.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/thorpeyfreak2/JDLclose.jpg In Torrent, I mention an island - Samson, part of the Isles of Scilly near Cornwall. This is where I row at the World Pilot Gig Championships and the islands are stunning. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of Samson itself as I never have much time to explore any of the islands except the largest where I stay - St Mary's. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/thorpeyfreak2/scillies2005/scillies11.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/thorpeyfreak2/scillies2005/scillies18.jpg | |||||
