I have posted some Random Bits fan art on my deviantArt gallery if anyone is interested. See it at http://nashiil.deviantart.com/gallery I have other artwork if you can stomach the cute smiling food long enough to find it. I have a few dragons, a cat, one gryphon and some other stuff. I also opened several online stores where you can buy prints, t-shirts, and more. You can find my zazzle store here http://www.zazzle.com/Nashiil and my cafepress store here http://www.cafepress.com/nashiil
Hi. Welcome to my Profile page! If you’re here, you’ve either stumbled upon A Random Adventure and the resulting Random Bits series and a) loathed them and wanted to see ‘who writes this crap?’, b) liked them enough to learn a little about the author, or c) accidentally clicked the wrong link.
A little about my fics: I had never written a fan fic before and after playing FFX, and discovering Terry Pratchett, A Random Adventure just dropped into my head. After fourteen chapters of silliness, I seemed to have used up all of my creativity and didn’t write anything for about a year! But I just couldn’t get the characters out of my head, and humorous situations and ideas kept popping up. Stuck on an Island in a world without much technology or modern day entertainment, what would people do for fun? If Tidus didn’t disappear at the end of the game, where would he live? What would his house be like? If there aren’t any cars, what delays would people encounter on the road? Thus the Random Bits series was born!
The fics aren't sequels or connected to the game's storyline. They are just random stories that could have taken place after defeating Sin, if Auron hadn't been Sent and Tidus hadn't disappeared. Don't misunderstand 'random' as refering to the characters' personalities and behavior (Out of Character). Its just about the humorous things that happen to them or the hilarious situations that they find themselves in. I don't like OoCness and try to keep everyone in character, or as close as I can get consideing that they aren't my creations and I don't know exactly how they would react in certain situations. I also tend to stay away from Original Characters as main characters and I don't use them very often. I don't like them because I feel that if they weren't in the game, they just don't belong. I do have a few which I use sparingly as background characters. They are: the 3 Old Men, aptly named Old Man #1, Old Man #2, and Old Man #3 (whom I have used the most), Marp the Hotdog Vendor, the new Guado leader Bob, and Winke Winkle the Tavern Owner.
Note: I enjoy constructive criticism because it lets me know how I can improve my writing style. I try to stick as close to the original personalities as possible even though I write satire/humor. Lets face it, if you take a character and give him/her a completely different personality in your writing, it’s a new character all together. Fans want to read about their favorite characters, not Auron the outspoken life of the party, who enjoys yoga and cries at chick flicks. Constructive criticism helps me keep all the characters on track and lets me know who needs more development. For example, I have a real problem writing Yuna’s personality. Thanks to constructive criticism I was steered in the right direction (Thanks rr1963).
I was also kindly informed that I make Tidus seem a little, well…stupid. This was unintentional. Tidus isn't just a foreigner in a strange technologically deficient land, but a stranger in a technologically deficient world. He knows little about the culture or how anything works in Spira, so it offered endless possibilities for mishaps and humorous situations. It was easy to get into the habit of making him the clueless cheerful buffoon. I am now on a mission to keep him in character (Thanks Witcher Co.).
Without constructive criticism I would have never noticed. Writers can’t grow without it, so keep it coming!
Basic Stuff:
Name: Nashiil
Age: 29 (as of 2008) o_O (yes, I am old compared to the majority of you!)
Height: 5ft. 4in (barely made average height for women)
Sign: Pisces/Sheep (depending on your cultural orientation)
Bio: I’m from Texas, but I don’t have an accent or ride a horse to school. I have a twin sister and we are working on a book, complete with art work, that we wrote way back in 2005. I spend most of my time working, studying, and taking care of my family.
Personality: I am basically happy all the time. I love to laugh. If no one around me is cheerful or smiling, you can be sure that before they leave they will be! (You'd be surprised to know that I'm actually very shy!)
Likes: Reading (fantasy), Writing, Final Fantasy, anime (as long as it doesn’t have porn or nudity), fantasy stuff, laughing, Chinese food, people with a good sense of humor, some j-Pop, and Japanese variety shows. I also love drawing. My media of choice? Plain copy paper and a mechanical pencil, or my computer. I use a simple photo editing program for all my coloring called Photo Impression, or Serif Draw Plus. They aren’t Photoshop, but a good artist can do wonders with what ever they have.
Dislikes: Arrogance, impatience, parents who let their kids run loose or want to be their best friends instead of their parents. People who have to make a scene or complain about everything at restaurants. People who are down right grouchy or mean, all the time, garlic, the algae wrapper on sushi (yes it is algae, not seaweed), cars with blaring music, spiders, research papers, not getting enough sleep, and needles (that's more of a phobia though). People who leave mean reivews just because they didn't like the fic. If you didn't like the fic for a good reason, say why and offer advice. Don't flame just because you thought it was dumb.
Pet Peeves: Alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, and cursing. I don’t see how getting high/drunk then stumbling around vomiting/soiling yourself for the entertainment of others can be fun. Its also annoying trying to talk to someone who curses like a high school freshman. (I apologize to all the freshmen who aren't like this if there are any.) How can you hold a halfway decent conversation if every second word is a curse word? If you have to add curse words to make a joke/story funny, you have a serious vocabulary deficiency, or don’t know what real humor is.
Favorite Author: Terry Pratchett. He does humor with a plot! If you haven’t been introduced to The Disc World, consider yourself deprived.
Favorite Movies: The Indian Jones Trilogy, Star Wars (4,5,6), LOTR, FFVII AC, Howl’s Moving Castle, Space Balls, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Pirates of the Caribbean, Kung Fu Panda, HellBoy and Hellboy ll: The Golden Army.
Thanks to all of you who review, help with fixing my posting errors, and send constructive criticism and comments. And thanks to everyone who got even the tiniest chuckle out of A Random Adventure, and the Random Bits series! (My Ego thanks you.)
