Update for Wednesday March 27th, 2013 @ 21:41

Ugh. Ugh ugh ugh ugh uuuuuggggh.

I wish I could say that I'm dropping by to tell you that an update to (insert favourite story here) is well in hand and that progress is being made, but if I were to tell you that it'd be a vicious, vicious lie. I'm not doing anything of the sort. Mostly because I'm so damned tired when I get home that beer and a few mindless rounds of Call of Duty are far more appealing and the thought of actually sitting down and working is too much... work.

I'm mentioned this in PMs to people before, but the reason my updates over the last three years have trickled to a crawl after a stint of 30,000 to 50,000 word a month updates is because I accidentally stumbled from a minimum wage job at my company and into a god-damned high-paying, high-demand career, like three months after I was hired in early 2010.

So I'm not sitting at home with a crappy linux desktop, internet connection, and a thirty dollar entertainment budget for the next two weeks anymore. I'm sitting at home with a bank balance in the four digits and wondering how the hell I'm going to find time to play the games I've purchased that I can finally afford, let alone write fanfiction or do anything else. As problems go, it's a pretty freaking fantastic one to have, but not one that's been conducive to writing.

A few years ago, when my choices were "Play an emulated SNES game I've already beaten or write fanfiction" it wasn't always a clear choice, but fanfiction generally won out. However, when my choices now are "Play Tomb Raider 2013, Bioshock: Infinite, or finish Metal Gear Rising tonight... Or maybe forget about those and write some fanfiction" far more often than not my mind goes to the vidya.

However, things might change soon. Right now I'm working on a proper man-cave in the basement of the house I'm in, complete with bigscreen TV and a PC wired to it. Given that the typical summer lull in games releases is coming up sooner or later AND that I've not yet justified a WiiU to myself, I can safely say that this coming summer, fall and winter is going to consist of me watching new releases for systems I don't own and finding other ways to occupy my time.

Hopefully on my sadly-neglected fanfiction, but I can promise it will not be time spent on video games. I refuse to buy a console in the first year of release on the trifecta of principals consisting of

1) I refuse to pay stupid money for a launch-window console which of course...
2) Has only one or two really outstanding, interesting titles, because...
3) Publishers are afraid to commit, and I don't want to wind up with another god-damned Dreamcast or 3DO on my hand (shut your whore mouth, I was a stupid kid and/or teen at the time)

The only WiiU titles worth a damn which are out appear to be ZombiU and Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate, for the record... And one of those I've already played on Wii. Though I'll admit that if Atlus announced that the Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem crossover were dropping next week, I'd probably gut everyone between myself and the nearest Gamestop in an effort to buy a WiiU and preorder it as quickly as possible.

At this point, I feel the need to preface this with one thing: I have read Spying No Jutsu. It is one of my favourite stories. The fact that that, and only that story has been repeated to me in PMs and unrelated reviews says just how sad and pathetic the humour section of the Naruto stories is. Let me say that the previous statement was, in no way, meant to put down Spying No Jutsu in any way, shape or form. It is a fantastic story. However the fact that that is the only story that comes to the mind of dozens of people when you think humour in a sea of 66,731 stories is more commentary on the quality of Naruto fanfiction than any amount of essays or whatever that I could write.

On a whim, I decided I was in the mood for a funny, completed Naruto story which was at least 100,000 words long. I wasn't being terribly picky. I didn't want to read about Original Character romances that were "funny", or Alternate Universe situations, or about boy-on-boy pairings. I thought I would have an easy time finding something to read given the boggling volume of Naruto stories. I thought wrong. Follow me on my journey into madness as I take a look at every Naruto story labeled humor on fanfiction.net, and cry with me as I fail to find the funny.
