Author has written 5 stories for Fruits Basket, Harry Potter, Peacemaker Kurogane, and Storm Hawks. May 27, 2007 I write, although I'm not exactly a prolific writer -- my original work takes precedence over my fanfic. What I do manage will be posted here. Everything I've learned about writing I've learned alternately from Hemingway, Nabokov, Faulkner and Margaret Atwood. I'm not certain if I've learned well but if we're going to sit about citing influences those are the names that are going to come up. I tend to write oneshots because I don't have the attention span for epics. Present tense is my comfort zone (consider that a forewarning). Fandoms include Harry Potter, Firefly, HBO's Oz, Good Omens, the Dark is Rising, Saiyuki, the BBC's Robin Hood, etc; when I'm feeling particularly masochistic I delve into Pirates of the Caribbean. I actively 'ship H/D and Ron/Pansy in the HP fandom, but aside from that my tastes run pretty canon. I like Good Omens genfic, schmoopy Simon/Kaylee and good AU!sortings. As for myself - I'm female. I live in the United States. I'm old enough to vote but I can't legally drink. I'm one of those damn godless liberals. I'm a college student; an English lit and philosophy double major at the moment, with a minor in music. I listen to Radiohead and Tori Amos and Ben Folds and Modest Mouse and Nirvana. I study viola and piano. I've a rather eclectic collection of reading material ranging from Camus to children's fantasy novels to Dune to David Sedaris. I've an LJ. My stance on reviews & criticism is this: by posting your work on a public archive you're making your work available to anyone who has internet access. By posting your work on fanfiction.net you're asking for people to read and review. Defined, a review is 'a critical article or report, as in a periodical, on a book, play, recital, or the like; critique; evaluation.' That doesn't mean 'read and tell me I rock,' it means 'read and give me an honest opinion that may and/or may not include criticism.' Following this logic, no criticism is unsolicited (note: there is a difference between 'harassment' and 'criticism') because the very existence of the 'review' button solicits criticism. I won't become a better writer if I don't attempt to improve, and neither will you. | |||||||
