Only when I'm rather unsatisfied with the arsenal of current fanfics do I decide to write. After all, I write what I want to read. I'm much more into art than writing, so take a look at my deviantart :) CONTENT: Writers Workshop Writers Workshop!: What makes me qualified to write a "Writer Workshop" on writing fanfictions? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Just a couple of years on this site, and a rather critical eye towards fanfictions. I know mine aren't the best there since I don't really CARE about them very much, (like I said above, I much rather read...and english isn't even my first language, chinese is.) but I feel like there're a few key things that would make your writing (and your reviews) shoot up. This is actually more from a reader's point of view than a writer's. Of course there're always exceptions to these rules, but take a look at your reviews and statistics before deciding whether you're an exception. Lesson 01: Summary Writing The Summary is quite possibly the most important part of your story. Don't Skimp Out On It. Seriously. Adding a "lol sry summry sux, but story is gud!" won't do anything. Neither will "frst story! R&R please!" The fact that it's your first story, OR that you suck at summaries won't make your story better. If you make some spelling/grammar mistakes, DON'T MAKE THEM IN YOUR SUMMARY. Your summary should be polished, professional, interesting, and just a general hook into your story. You can make mistakes in your story. Don't make them in your summary. You have what, a couple hundred characters to represent your entire story. You don't want it to suck. And don't, I repeat don't use questions. It just sounds amateurish and ridiculous. OR ALL CAPS Your summary can be a quote or you can just list what the main problem is (if you don't have a problem, then your story's probably no good.). Like for instance, my latest fic, June 5th: The Problem? Draco forgets he and Harry's anniversary and tries to remember it and then when he does, remembers the wrong date and makes a huge catastrophe. The Summary: In which Draco desperately tries to make sure he doesn't botch up his first anniversary with Harry. Established DracoxHarry Slight AU (Notice I added some other information about the fic, like pairing, warnings, etc) See? A little information, just a vague sentence about the main issue that hopefully intrigues the reader and pulls them in. I also use "In which" alot because it sounds cool. Now let's see a bad summary: B4D SUM4RY: DRACO FORGETS THEIR ANNIVERSARY! will harry get mad?? or did draco make anothr mistake?? pls review first story on here. I think that's enough for now.
