Author has written 38 stories for Danny Phantom. 9/23/08 - So the poll has decided it. I'm just abandoning things here. Though I may come back at a later date to take Unwilling. It really is my most favorite fan fic I've written. I could say a great deal about Danny Phantom the one and only fandom I've ever written for. I could say things about writing fan fic. The DP fandom I hear is realitivly small and so I should feel blessed at being read as much as I was. I should have just stayed out of the fandom completely. In November of 2005 I was reading Anne of Green Gables fan fics, because I was bored and I really like Anne, but they began to bore me. I decided to look around FFN and ended up in the DP section. I read tons of fics and book marked them, because really I had no intention of joining FFN, absolutly NO intention. At the time I hadn't attempted writing in a long, long time. Years before I'd completed at least two novels (not in a publishable state), the longest being a bloated 800,000 words long the other, slightly better written, a little shorter, but still a rather bloated silly thing. I had five others in various states of completion and then it all stopped. I missed writing but just couldn't write. The advent of Danny in my life changed everything. The boy inspired me to write. I had my first fic idea. I signed up at FFN using the name I'd used to sign reviews, Me the anon one. Because really I only intended to write this ONE story and be done with it. After all, I'd never really watched the show. I just needed to get the idea out of my head and the thought of writing thrilled me. Thus, Just Like Dear Old Vlad, was born. It's crap. Don't read it. Don't read Mum's The Word or Sticking Together either. Seriously. Please. They are bad. I did gradually learn about Danny during my writings and I did begin watching the show. I finished the whole first series, which really should be just one story in about a month. I was a prolific updater. I FELL IN ABSOLUTE LOVE with reviews. At the beginning of my fan fic career I was unwell. I had a year and a half year old child, was in the throws of Postpartum Depression and needed some positive input. I wrote rabidly just to achieve those reviews. In the beginning I didn't even know about the story stats! It was a bad bad day all around when I found those. I wish I'd never known the stats were there at all. I was obsessive about them. I wrote more and more and more. Story faves became very important to me and so did author faves. I'd suffer a near nervous breakdown every time I lost an author fave. I took being removed from a list very personally. I set goals. I wanted to have 50 author faves, a seemingly impossible number. I wanted to have 80. I wanted to have 90. Etc etc... I was restless about it. I wrote more than I slept. I responded every single review I could. I got burnt out sometimes, but if someone with a user name wrote me a review (or an email address), I responded. I think its shameful, disgusting and nasty when an author begs for reviews, wants or demands reviews, but does not respond to those reviews in kind. Those authors should be ashamed of themselves! And being so egotistical to list your reviewers in your a/n is just as scurrilous. Sorry. To me it just says to everyone else; "look whose reading MY work and taking the time to review ME". During this obsession I made FFN friends with Lacey52, who nicknamed me Nonny. More importantly I became friends with Bluemyst19. Blue began working with me, and working on me. Through her patience, attention and love I became less of a stats whore and began focusing more on the quality of my writing. She practically co-wrote Unwilling. I don't give her enough credit for that. Though she never did any of the writing, she fleshed out the plot with me and owns that story just as much as I do. In December of 2006 I met a character who changed my life forever. I left fan fic and followed this character, not of my creation on to a very small fandom. These were original characters of Nomy. Danny left me. I tried to write him still but he was gone. I will never go back to fan fic. I am leaving FFN having only written stories for Danny Phantom. This page says I've written 38, but the actual number is 90 if you look at my collection of one shots and drabbles. I also have stories and such I've never put on FFN. Between December 2005 and September 2007 I archived 791,525 words. In that time span I wrote well over a million words. I am also leaving FFN on the favorites list of 250 members, something that three years go would have made me swoon in joy and disbelief, which just seems empty now. I know those stats will go down. It makes me sad in a strange way, but I am at peace with it. Danny Phantom is a dead fandom and I chose to remember him happily instead of with the taint of his crazy fandom. The thing I miss most about writing fan fic is the instant gratification of reviews. Just knowing I was being read. I write original fics now and well no one wants to become invested in that. I learned quickly that the 250 people faving me didn't really care about me as a writer. They only care about Danny. It wasn't me they were fans of. It's Danny. And that's fine and good. The lure of writing fandom and that instant gratification is sometimes hard to resist, but I writing my own original work is more intensely gratifying and I might say my original writing is much, much better than my fanfic because I'm acutally HAPPY and comfortable with my original work. Blue and I are still friends. We write together. I want to sincerely thank each person who has come here to read my stories. I want to thank those who have reviewed and faved. I want to thank those who continue to review and fave. Your input and interest has meant more to me than I can express.
