Author has written 40 stories for Peter Pan, Alias, Pirates of the Caribbean, Chronicles of Narnia, and Doctor Who. "People who say historical music is boring aren't listening to the right historical music." ~Heather Dale, Live in Montreal The basics: Female, 24, Canadian, short, perky, slightly crazy (I've been told). In depth: I live to write and, as seems to be the case with writers, I love to read! In case you're interested, in addition to those authors for whose work I write fic my favourites are Agatha Christie, Dorothy Sayers, PG Wodehouse, Laurie R King and Elizabeth Peters (the Emerson family is probably destined to rule the world, so we should simply accept this as soon as possible and get on with our lives). I also have to put in a plug for Heather Dale, an independant Celtic folk artist whose work inspired a huge chunk of my Narnia fic. She has such a lovely, unique voice and I can't recommend her enough! Even more in depth: When I'm not reading, writing or working I'll most likely be sleeping or eating, but when time permits I enjoy training my three crazy dogs, watching my beautiful and rather bloodthirsty fish, pining after the chance to go to Pennsic, and spending time with God, who will fortunately be with me always, "even to the very end of the age." Something of a relief, that . . . A quick heads-up to the many wonderful, spelling-conscious Americans who read my work: you may be (and have been!) confused by what will seem to you to be presistent mistakes in my own spelling, but are actually just the Canadian (and often British) versions of certain words. For example, I'll use cosy instead of cozy, defence instead of defense, colour instead of color— the list goes on. I also want it made known that I do advise against reading my earlier fic. It's awful. Really. However, I have spent some time overhauling a lot of early work, mostly the Alias pieces, and editing for clarity, grammar and even, when the mood strikes me, content. I'm not done yet and am not sure when I will be (all you sweet people who still peek in at Running Scared just break my heart; I promise I will finish it, I just need to find the time) but I do hope that someday they will at least be legible, if not exactly Great Literature! In any event, thanks so much for taking the time to check out my work. I really appreciate feedback because I enjoy writing to improve and a lot of the critiques I have received for my fic over the years have helped strengthen my writing. Yes, this DOES mean you do not have to be afraid to tell me where you think the story dragged a little, or where you think I could have chosen my words with a bit more care; even if I don't end up agreeing with you, I promise not to bite your head off! So thanks to everybody, and I hope you continue to enjoy! Extremely in depth: (so very much so that you may feel free to skip this part if you are bored by now) This used to be up under the heading "In depth" but as I was editing it, it got to be so very in depth that I felt it needed to be relocated down here, because I do need to address this or else I will begin to tear out my own hair. And I do like my hair. First and foremost (although I suppose not really first, anymore, since I have moved it down here) I believe that, as an author of original fiction as well as a writer of fanfic, I need to be as defensive of the work of authors for whom I write fic as I would wish fanfic authors to be of my own (original) work. That's why I feel obliged to ensure that each of my fics (excepting parody and AU stories, of which I have written a few) has at least a reasonable chance of fitting into the existant canon of their respective fandoms. I will carry this so far as to place the canon of a fandom above certain of my own personal views, which means that even if there is something I would personally like to take an author to task over writing, I will still try to respect that detail as germaine to the canon and incorporate it in my work where appropriate. This does not mean that I share every view cherished by an author or the creator of a television program. Nor does it mean I think less of any writers who elect (as is their right, insofar as fanfiction allows us any rights whatsoever) to play a little fast and loose with what we know of the characters we love. Personally, I don't mind that many other authors don't feel as I do about canon, and am more than capable of reading and enjoying their stories anyway. However, some of my readers in the past seem to have had difficulty in separating the author from her fan-based work, and I felt it might be prudent to clarify that not every ideal you see espoused in my work is necessarily my own. (If you desperately want to know which fic brought about this little grumble, and where my personal views diverge from those of the existant canon, check out the updated author's notes at the end of "How She Was" and you will probably learn more than you ever cared to know on the subject) On archival and distribution: Please ask first. I mean it! If you are going to copy my work to your computer for your own personal use that's fine, go ahead, but if you are going to post it on another site somewhere, please let me know! It only takes a second or two to send a quick PM. Life as of late: Is settling down a little, though not as much as I had hoped. Gainful employment is a delight, especially since I do love my job, but I've recently been promoted and am suddenly buried under a weight of new responsibility. As you may imagine this leaves little time for writing. Most of my free time is currently devoted to original fiction, which means fan fiction has sort of gotten lost in the shuffle. I haven't fallen from the face of the Earth, though, and will update as time and inspiration permit! | |||||||
