Author has written 4 stories for Fire Emblem, Screenplays, and Pokemon.

heres the deal. the magebear has decided that it no longer writes fanfiction.

before you all have heart attacks, understand what this means.

the term "fan fiction" has been stigmatized by horny morons who have nothing better to do than write about snape pounding harrys arse, putting together characters who really have no business being together, shamelessly inserting themselves, their friends, or both into a universe, or making up grossly improbable adventures to abuse the characters they "love." even worse, they generally do it all BADLY.

these are the people who dont fully understand the concept of standardizing spelling to more efficiently communicate ideas (complicated or otherwise) across a vast area. the people who believe that others ideas are their personal playthings, with no regard for the original creator, the creativity they demonstrate, their creation, or the effort that went into it.

these people are not imaginative or intelligent, but lazy and DISRESPECTFUL.

these people have made the title of fanfiction author a mark of perversion and exile.

now, as with all accusations, this is not all encompassing. there are a large number of authors who respect the original creators of the various categories of entertainment. these authors may seek to transfer the original game, show, etc. into another medium, they may wish to continue or fill in sections of a storyline or that the original creator left open, or they may simply wish to pay homage with an addition to the creator's original idea.

the difference between these people and those mentioned earlier is respect. these authors respect the wishes of those who spend a great deal of time, energy, and often money, to spread their ideas. you will not see these authors blatantly ignore an established trait of a particular character or series, like saying, "lets pretend that darth vader didnt actually die on the death star, and that luke didnt burn his body, and pretend that he went back and convinced his younger self to not embrace the dark side, but that this decision didnt affect the rest of the star wars timeline." this, and similar ideas, are blatant misuses of the creators characters, and using them this way is, in fact, rather disrespectful. that is not to say that if you want to veer away from an established characteristic or event, you will be doing something wrong. there is a way to do so respectfully.

follow in the footsteps of the creator that you claim to adore, and CREATE YOUR OWN CHARACTERS. your supposed idol likely put measureless hours and energy into their world and its characters. if you like their end product, model your own version on theirs, and start from that. that doesnt mean take their creation, rename everything, and slap together some nonsensical drivel. really put the effort into making your own ideas.

it takes more than adding a japanese suffix to someones name to demonstrate respect, especially if you do so and then turn around and disrespect them and their work.

the magebear wholeheartedly supports ff.nets slogan, "unleash your imagination," but the majority of the content here is not imaginative, but lazy plagiarism with a pretty name. since the amount of effort it would take to undo the slander to the fanfiction name would be tantamount to copying every page on the internet (hint: this is impossible, as the internet is constantly changing in both size and content), the magebear has decided to simply abandon it as a lost cause.

thus, the magebear still writes, but now its work will be called stolen-setting stories, which, unfortunately, is actually a more socially acceptable term.

to those of you who honestly do justice to the label of "fan," kudos to you.

for those of you curious enough to actually visit this page, the magebear will give you some insight into the magebears writing process.

a good story should flow through the readers consciousness, like a movie in their mind. however, common sense should also play a part in writing. if you add unnecessary fluff to any written piece, whether fiction, non-fiction, essay, etc., it will bore the reader. however, make a piece too sparse by cutting elements short, or getting rid of them altogether, you will cripple the piece, in the same way that skimping on the brakes in a car will impair its ability to safely transport you from point a to point b. and remember, the writer writes is just as much a reader of their own piece as others. if the writer cant enjoy going back over their piece and reading it through from the beginning, how can they expect their readers to?

you may notice an absence of descriptive elements in the magebears newer stories compared to those of many fanfiction writers. this is not a result of poor writing. just as rich burlew, author/illustrator of the popular webcomic Order of the Stick, draws his characters as stick-figures despite his ability to draw more "realistic" characters because it works better with the story, the magebear is not going to try to force unimportant descriptions on its readers.

if a description of a character will add to the development of that character, their interactions with other characters, or the plot itself, then it will be included. however, every reader will have their own idea of what the character looks like, and trying to shove "bright emerald eyes under a curly mop of platinum blond hair" will interrupt the flow of the story in the readers mind, in addition to being rude and presumptuous.

when description is necessary, you will not find a separate paragraph dedicated to it, which also interrupts the flow of the story. it will be woven into the story itself.

finally, you may notice the occasional rule of grammar, spelling, or syntax broken in the magebears writing. once again, this is not an indicator of bad writing. thats not to say that its okay to break those rules constantly. just like anything in life, rules need to be taken in moderation. the term "rules were made to be broken" should not be taken at face value. one must consider the idea behind the rule one is breaking. if a writer simply breaks rules because they either dont know them or dont respect them enough to follow them, that IS a sign of bad writing. rules were made for a reason.

if one is going to break a rule, one should first know the rule, the reason for it, as well as have a reason for bypassing the rule. standard spelling was created in order to convey a single meaning to large groups of people who will all recognize the word at a glance, without having to go back and analyze the sentence to figure it out. however, if youre trying to deliberately emphasize a particular accent or dialect, following the reasoning behind standard spelling will go against your purpose. it is better to consciously bypass a rule than to break it without realizing.
