Howdy fellow readers and authors. My name's Darren. I'm 18; I’ve recently completed Year 12 at Sydney Distance Education High School (a correspondence school) and am now at Macquarie University. I was sick for almost the entire Year 8, most of year 7 and 9 and ended up finishing at Dist. Ed. despite recovering by the end of Year 10.
Favourite Books: Harry Potter 1-5 (HBP and DH were horrible in their own ways, particularly the ships), His Dark Materials Alex Rider Series, Tara Moss' Makedde 'Mak' Vanderwell Series, Darren Shan Vampire Series and a multitude of other bits and pieces.
Favourite TV Shows: 24 (Seasons 1-5, 6 sucked beyond belief), Lost, Amazing Race, Deadwood, Life on Mars, Supernatural, House, Farscape, Angel, Buffy and Firefly, Spicks & Spicks and Gladiators! Corny the last, I know, but good fun.
Favourite Movies: Serenity, Farscape: Peacekeeper War, Deja Vu, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Blood Diamond.
Fan Fiction: Mostly H/Hr. I can’t stand H/G or R/Hr because in real life they just aren’t compatible. I like some of the out there ships as well, like H/Susan, Padma, Daphne and Fleur. Me and Miss Bones, Thank You Ms Bones, Secrets of Male Veela, Not Bloody Likely and Litany of Blood spring to mind. More recently, Dagger and Rose, For Want of a Wand, The Unbearable Lightness of Fleur Delacour, and The 100,000 Sons of Maréchal Potter, are great reads, albeit in their early days. All these are in my favs, except for the last (@ DLP).
Sixth Year: The Steps Toward The End
I came up with the name the night I posted the story, hence its lack of splendor. It may change, but only after I finish writing, if that does happen. I’m horrible at creative names so my chapters will be song titles for Sixth Year. During Seventh Year, that might change.
Currently the progressive title of the sequel is "Seventh Year: The Days Before Dawn" but that's as like to change as the weather.
Sixth Year takes place at the start of the sixth year, naturally. The main change is that Harry has actually matured from the DoM disaster and revived the DA, only in a capacity to create his own 'army'. The students he enlists eventually learn and join in with Harry on his quest and are predominantly females for good reasons.
The fic is going to be quite long, as, probably, will be its sequel. I am a supporter of character based stories, because without well written characters, there is just a plot, and that does not suffice. Because of that, there will be many periods without action, as the characters are still at Hogwarts, and not too much can happen there. I would apologize, but each character is different and deserves their own personality, history, dreams and air time. Some will get more than others, though.
I seem to lack the ability to write concisely, so most scenes are longer than they otherwise could be. I've enjoyed writing deeply into the scenes thus far and will continue to do so as long as it works for me.
‘Afterthoughts’ are just the occasional two thousand or so word one-shots I’ll write that occur within the same universe. They aren’t beta’d, as they don’t really deserve to be, but should be worth the five or so minutes it takes to read.
As I am now studying at Macquarie University and updates are now once a month if I can. Writing is in progress, but sporadic.

9/7/08: Following Uni, I've had a series of both family and personal issues get in the way of my writing. Because of those, I couldn't find myself in the right mood to write. I am only now returning to writing more often.
The bad news is that this means it will still probably be another fortnight or so until I have the next chapters ready (I have two scenes - one in each - in the next two chapters that I have to edit heavily as they do not work or I changed my mind on something). More bad news is that I am stuck trying to write the rewrite the scene in the next chapter and where I am up to writing chapter twenty four. As I said, it'll take a bit of time to get these ready.
Now, the good news, as there always is a bit of each, is that I have plotted out the rest of this year, bit by bit, until the end of the climatic scene, and have a general idea of the start of the next year. I have ideas of what I will write for the next year, but I need to put them in order and, of course, plot out the rest. More good news is that, as I am stuck where I am now, I've started writing several scenes further on, so updates, when I finish the rewriting the scenes, should come with more regularity for a period. The scenes I'm writing also entertain me quite a lot, so I figure there is a good chance it will you. The only bad part about that is I might not want to return to the scenes I'm stuck on now that I'm enjoying these ones so much.
I'll edit this later with more news when it comes.
22/7/08: Just a quick notice. I'm still having a heap of trouble with the scenes in twenty one and twenty four, but the one in twenty is about as good as it's probably going to get. I'll give it a day or two and have another read through. If I'm happy with it, beta time. If not, well, a few more days, I guess.
