Charon (ka'ron), "bright-eyed."
He was the ferryman who takes the souls of the dead across the River Styx on a barge. It was customary in antiquity to bury a persons with a coin between their teeth to pay Charon for passage across the river (Aristophanes, Frogs 138-140, 180-269; Euripides, Alcestis 252-259; Virgil, Aeneid 6.295-330). Several living people managed to gain passage from Charon--Orpheus accomplished it by charming Charon with his singing, Heracles intimidated him, and Aeneas bribed him with the Golden Bough (Virgil, Aeneid 6.384-416).

For all of you who don't know your Roman mythology.
Name: Dude. Two words. Pen. Name.
Occupation: I'm assuming this does not include the random summer gig, because then I would have to answer 'landscaping assistant' (subtext: grunt worker). Other than that, I'm a high school student.
Age: Old enough.
A Bit About Me: Hmm, what to say? I'm your average high schooler, pretty easy to forget. I used to be a pretty big fan of anime - the whole nine yards: conventions, cosplaying, gaming, what have you. But school's gotten really intense this year, so basically all my previous obsessions have died in favor of studying.
My passion is languages. Currently attempting to master Mandarin Chinese. I can't really hold a coherent conversation, but, man, I totally excel at talking about the weather. Yup yup. Fo shizz...or whatever that means. Other than that, right now, I'm also entrenched in Latin, which is an absolutely amazing language. Your life is not complete until you have translated Dido's suicide from the Aeneid. Do it. Now. Or at least score yourself some Catellus.
Rant of the Month/Year/Given Slot of Time (2/17/08)
Finally acquired a new computer, so I can once again upload chapters! Huzzah!
But, uh, the next chapter of ACBL probably won't be up for a while more, because I went back and reread it a few weeks ago, and quite frankly it was utter garbage. So a revised version is under way right now. It's my goal to finish this story before the end of the school year, so hopefully everything works out! XD Thanks so much to everyone who's read/reviewed/alerted/etc.
