Author has written 40 stories for Makai Kingdom, Suikoden, Clare B. Dunkle, Wild Arms, La Pucelle, GrimGrimoire, Soul Nomad & the World Eaters, Harry Potter, Final Fantasy I-VI, Persona Series, Growlanser, Yggdra Union, and Tales of the Abyss. Hello there. Welcome to my corner of the cosmos. I am: Rayless Night. Raye is fine too. If you'd like a pronoun when referring to me, it's "she". What I do: Generally, I write and draw. All the fanwriting I have online is posted here, and you can check out both fan art and original art at my homepage. Other hobbies include reading, playing RPGs, studying language and history, and horse-back riding. As for my fanfiction: My stories are usually character-driven, though many of them also have a lot of action in their plots. I tend to be a canon-purist, and my pet peeves are OOCness, Mary Sue and pointless fluff. With any luck, you will not find it here. However, hyperbole, plot-halting angst, and fluffy animals abound. As for the pairings I write, if they aren't canonical, I try to make them mesh with canon as smoothly as possible. I don't intentionally make people out of character just for the sake of a pairing. You also won't find sexually-explicit scenes or same-sex pairings. However, I have three standard warnings: 1) There is swearing but nothing above a PG-13 level. 2) Several of my stories do include adult themes (taxes). 3) My stories also include violence, some realistic, some otherwise. In my less serious moments it's pretty cartoony, but elsewhere it hits an M rating. Review Policy: My reviews to you: I don't flame, but I give honest reviews. So if I tell you your ending's rushed or your dialogue is cliched, it's not because I want to be mean; it means that, in my opinion, your ending's rushed and your dialogue's cliched. Simple as that. And if I tell you that your characterization is fabulous and I can't wait for the next update, I'm not giving you my usual review, I really think your story is something special. I read many more stories than I review, so if I spent the time to leave you a critique, it means your story stood out for a particular reason. The most common criticisms I make? 1) You're too wordy. (Most people are, in their early drafts.) 2) Your prose is cliched. (Another easy mistake to make, but a cliche at the wrong moment can kill a good scene.) 3) You botched the ending in some respect. (Endings are such pains, in my opinion.) Your reviews to me: I very much appreciate honest criticism from readers. Gary Larson (The Far Side), puts it best: Writing without good feedback "is like doing brain surgery with a butter knife - you can do it, but you’re always paranoid the other surgeons are rolling their eyes when you’re not looking. What a relief to have someone standing next to you hand you a sharp scalpel and just say, 'Cut that thing, Gary! Right there! Cut it, damn you!'" I also respond to the signed reviews people leave me. You spent time reading my story, and, as a bonus, you even reviewed and gave me feedback. That deserves thanks. The criticisms I get? 1) Why did (insert character) decide to (insert odd behavior)? 2) Cut out 30 percent of your story. (I know, I know.) 3) I really couldn't follow what was happening at (climactic moment). 4) Why don't these people have normal names like Jane or Matthew? So critique away. I'm used to it. Oh yeah: The Suikoden series is owned by Konami, not myself. This is probably for the best. First of all, I want to apologize to everyone who read it, especially to those who were in the middle of reading it when it went down. Secondly, I want to thank all of the same people. I consider Kindred some of my best fanwriting, and the careful input of my readers and betas definitely contributed to that. To make things simple: Why did you delete it? Because I received confirmation it violated the site's guidelines - specifically, it quoted from the books. Why didn't you just edit the quotes out? I felt it would cripple the fic considerably, as well as make for awkward reading. I'm proud of the quality of the fic, so I felt it should all be removed together. Are you going to post it somewhere else? At this point, I don't know. It depends on how much time I have and whether or not I can find an archive that can host it. If I decide to, I will post the address in this profile. I'll say again that I'm not happy doing this - writing Kindred was so much fun, and getting your input taught me a lot about what works and what doesn't work in a story.
