Dowd, Harvey Follow your muse. If it delights your heart then it is worthwhile. I wrote my first story Orders because I wanted to explore why Dean was so compulsive about following Dad’s orders. I only write Supernatural stories because basically I only watch Supernatural, everything else currently on TV doesn’t hold my interest. It has been suggested that I am obsessed with Supernatural, hmmm wonder why they would think that? I have now been writing these stories for over two years. To be honest, I am shocked. Who would have thought a TV show would fuel my creative juices and inspire me to write these stories? These Winchesters are such amazing characters you just want to dig to the bottom of their psyches and figure them out. None of the Winchesters are perfect and that is what makes them so compelling. I love to write about Dean. He is such a complex, emotionally damaged, yet heroic figure, and I love watching JA portray all the facets of his intricate personality. I also enjoy exploring John as a flawed, tragic father who has lost so much and struggles to continue on, making mistakes along the way, but always loving his sons. JP has amazed me with his riveting portrayal of Sam. I am beginning to understand Sam better and I hope I realistically capture him in my stories. All of my stories focus on the relationships in this family, their love and devotion to each other and their need to protect each other. Bobby officially joined the Winchester family IMHO during AHBL2. Watching the four J's act together is heaven! I started writing stories about when the boys were younger, but I am now also writing current stories. I must credit any insight into the younger Winchesters to my two phenomenal nephews, Zach and Logan. They are the closest brothers I have ever known and are simply amazing. Love you guys! Previously I enjoyed Dark Angel (S2, the Alec season!), Buffy and Angel, Firefly, Roswell, Tour of Duty, and Lonesome Dove, amongst a few others. The closest I have come to the obsession I have with Supernatural would have been Farscape, which I absolutely loved and was heartbroken when it was prematurely cancelled. Curse those network idiots! Instruments – I played violin in the Arizona State University Symphony Orchestra, but fiddle is much livelier. Give me a Dobro or pedal steel guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin and the musicians who can actually play them, as opposed to my feeble attempts, and I am in heaven. Yes, I love bluegrass and if you haven’t tried it you are truly missing out on some of the most talented musicians alive. Best Concert Moment – tie between my first Eagles’ Hell Freezes Over Tour concert as they started the acoustic version of Hotel California (first time I ever heard that version), and a solo Don Henley concert where he was also the opening act and played for well over three hours in an intimate outdoor venue. I would listen to that man sing the phone book! Favorite mini-series - Lonesome Dove - for the first two minutes I said, “Cowboys don’t talk like that” before I was swept up in the spell and lost in the most mesmerizing show. At three minutes I was hooked and loved every word, action and nuance. Why don’t they make westerns anymore? Favorite Movies The Classics – Casablanca, Citizen Kane, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Maltese Falcon, Arsenic and Old Lace, It’s a Wonderful Life, Red River, Harvey, It Happened One Night, High Noon, and No Name on the Bullet (favorite Audie Murphy movie) (Colorization is dead, right? I mean, would you colorize an Ansel Adam’s photograph or Picasso’s Don Quixote?) The New Greats - The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Bladerunner, Field of Dreams, Bull Durham, Frequency, the Terminator trilogy, Star Wars trilogy, The Verdict, The Princess Bride, Life as a House (when I want to cry), Three Fugitives (when I need to laugh). I love all animals, especially dogs and otters (Hi, Lo!). You will never have a more loyal and true friend than a Labrador! Put two labs together and you will be forced to smile in wonder at their energy and love of life. I just named my new female Black Lab puppy, Scout, from To Kill a Mockingbird. I didn’t realize at the time, but I have to watch using her name and the term “good girl”. I crack myself up when I tell her good girl Scout! I’m thinking of getting her a green GS uniform! Scout celebrated her 2nd birthday on March 3rd. Rowdy, my 9 year old Lab mix, is just happy to have a playmate who can keep up with him.
