I write fanfic as a creative outlet (and also a learning tool). Typically my stories revolve around questions or situations that the canon books didn't answer or will never address or make happen.

I prefer to use canon characters, although I'm not afraid to insert an original character where there's a need for one. I want to see more of our old friends, and to be honest due to the decade-long ban on Anne McCaffrey book-based fanfic, there's waaaaay too much crappy original character fanfic out there. I'd like to see more canon character fanfic, so that's what I write.

I update on an irregular schedule; my priority is real-life and my original fiction (I'm really hoping to complete my first novel American Goetia this year, but I suspect it may not happen). Basically, I update with whatever I write, whenever I write it, which means I skip from fic to fic as the creative wind blows me. Therefore, I have many WIPs. Sorry about that.

Also--did you know you can subscribe to a feed that will tell you when I update? I mean, you can sign up here at fanfiction.net and get update alerts via email, but if you look on the uppre left there's a link for an Atom feed that you can use with any software or site you use to gather your blog feeds together. Pern Fanfiction

The Skyboom - This is a cractastic vehicle for resurrecting Robinton in the Ninth Pass (and bringing F'lon along for the ride). It started out as a weed, and like a weed it's growing and growing and growing. Luckily...I have a plan. WIP, but I've been updating it a lot.

The Perfect-Matched - This is the first chapter of the sequal to The Skyboom. I know, I know...Skyboom isn't even finished yet. But when it is, this is what comes next. ;) WIP, won't start to really update until The Skyboom is done.

Flight - This is a finished fic exploring the idea of a Robinton/Menolly relationship. It uses the fairly obvious plot device of fire lizard matings as the "push" for the initial encounters. This is the original version, where I was having a terrible time writing an actual pair-up between Robinton...he kept being too logical and Politically Correct, damn him, so he turns her down.

Flight (Version Two) - Eventually, after I failed in the first version to write the ending I originally wanted, I managed to do it. This is the version of Flight where Robinton and Menolly are paired together, and it's complete.

Coup - Sequal to Flight (Version Two). This is going to be a bear to write...it has such potential to end in a disaster or tragedy. Nonetheless, I'm picking away at it. WIP, obviously, and infrequently updated.

Talent Fanfiction

Sackcloth and Ashes - This story emerged from the idea--what if the liner that went out mistakenly carrying Damia on it didn't make it back safely? Mostly, I just wanted Afra to be all angsty--regardless of the book being named Damia it's Afra we really care about. So I wrote this story to have more Afra-time. Writing emotional Afra is fun...he locks it all up inside, poor guy. Then the story got bigger and bigger and I put in a few more ideas. This is a WIP.

Boxed: A Story of Talent - I'm of the opinion that of all the Talent books, The Rowan and Damia are the best. Why? Because the later books lose focus and try to chase all the Superbly Talented (in every form of the word) kids of Afra and Damia all around as they do Amazing Things. They never get hurt...even Rojer gets his 'Dinis returned to him after they're murdered. WTF? Also in my mind was a line from The Rowan where it's said Rowan was, as a child, monitored by telepathy and electronics so that being orphaned at the age of 3 wouldn't turn her into a "deviant". Okay, let's be honest here...Talent or not, Rowan has a pretty swank life. Yeah, she got orphaned, but her foster mother totally made up for it. She never wanted for food, education, anything...it was her own aloofness that set her apart. I grew up in a terrible family, and I'm jealous of the Rowan's so-called "tragic" life...she didn't go through half the things I did, and yet her past is made out to be so tragic, and so ripe for making her mentally deviant. I call bullshit. So I decided to write a T-1 Prime-level character that was really abused, that was really put through some horrible events, just to see what would happen if she entered the FT&T. This story is the outcome, and although it's getting pretty difficult to write, I really like it.

And Then There Was One - In Pegasus in Space we see a some of the 9 Star League started colonizing. Then there's a 300 year jump to The Rowan and suddenly Primes can't teleport themselves long distances, Towered Primes seem to have all sorts of personality quirks that are catered to by the FT&T, and all that good stuff that makes up the "classic" Talent universe. So...what happened in those 300 years? How did Peter Reidinger IV come to power, and why did he get the post instead of Guzman and Siglen (who were supposedly in the running)? And how the hell did the rank of Earth Prime start to wield so much power--where did the parapsychic Directors go? This story explores some of how the status quo of The Rowan came to be. This is a WIP, mostly on the back-burner.

The Talent and the Weft - I hate Mrdinis. Say it with me--I HATE Mrdinis! They're boring, ill-made, and have no personalities...they're essentially the Talent universe's dragons, except without the cool factor. So I figured a crossover story where Afra and Damia met the shapeshifting--and telepathic Wefts was in order. Much more fun! This is irregularly updated, and a WIP. I also need to go back and do some major editing on what's already posted...it's terrible in its quality.

A Stationmaster, Two Twics, and Earth Prime - This story is MATURE, and mostly me playing with the idea that Afra poked his nose into a lot of...uh...interesting Terran things once he got off of his ultra-conservative home planet Capella. I mean, come on...in Damia he comes to Callisto, is introduced to booze and whores by Gollee Gren, slathers sunscreen over a buck-naked 16 year old Damia's crotch at her command (when he'd be fully in his rights to tell her to go to hell...but he didn't, he lotioned her womanly bits anyway), and gets her pregnant at 18 when he's some 20-odd years her senior. None of this is faced head-on in the books, but the subtext is there, and dammit, I'm going to face that subtext right on and make a story about it! Bwa ha ha ha. This is a WIP, and irregularly updated. It doesn't have a single damn review as of this moment, probably because I scared everyone off by mentioning BDSM. That said, it also has hands-down my best Jeff/Gollee interactions...I love how their characterization came out.
