I'll admit it. I've dropped off the face of fanfiction, possibly for good. This is most likely the last you shall hear from me, due to real life kicking in, and not having the strength of will to sort through the loads of useless time-wasting fic to get to the good stuff. I am sorry.
Though I'm in the process of writing a few one-shots (preferably while listening to specific songs on replay for long periods of time), I'm not quite brave enough to post yet. For now I'll stick to reading fanfiction. I originally started this account to:
1. Make it easier to keep track of stories I like,
2. Supply other readers of similar taste to a collection of worthwhile fanfiction,
3. And also to worm my way into reviewing fics that don't allow anonymous reviews. There is no escape from me now!
I roam quite a variety of fandoms, though you'll find mostly I archive Harry Potter fics.
My Favorites
I think that the stories under my favorites are all of a higher caliber than the average fic, and well worth taking a look at. I mean, its better than wading through all the...erm...stuff...available.
I'm not big on Original Character fics, and never bother with slash, therefore you will find neither in my collection. Also, like it or not, the ratings are never higher than T, and that's usually for language. I seem to be reading a lot of AU lately, but only if the characters are so in-character that the plot is believable.
Ships
Though I'm not a passionate shipper by any means, I prefer canon ships. My reasoning being that if it isn't canon compliant, they're probably out of character, thus defeating the point of fanfiction. However I make exceptions to almost anything as long as its done well and it makes sense.
My personal favorite HP ship is Remus/Tonks, though I'm picky. The romance generally has to be somewhat subtle, otherwise (to me) it seems OOC. I really don't go for them lusting after each other. It just doesn't fit my perception of their personalities.
Initially I liked James/Lily fics, but now they are flooding the fandom and they are all the same! I appreciate reccomendations for decent J/L that have a different angle, and minimal OC.
I rarely read Hermione/Snape,any kind of slash (especially Remus/Sirius), and I find the chances of any of our beloved female (or male!) characters suddenly falling in love with Draco Malfoy so slim that I avoid those fics altogether. Please, please, don't make Ginny or Hermione (Or Harry) pay the price for Draco fangirl-ism.
If you want the epitome of the fanfiction I think is hilarious/ridiculous/unforgivable check out Finally by dress-shoes24. I thought it was a joke the first time I read it, but it was funnier when I found out it wasn't.
Some of My Favorite Fics That Deserve an Ample Amount of Recognition (AKA my favorite favorites! MUST READS!)
Imperius by Jess_Pallas
-Complete- Possibly the best AU fic ever. In fact, you just sort of forget its not canon, 'cause its just so good it doesn't matter! Nicely paced, brilliantly plotted, plus she's got Remus' character (actually, all of them) down pat. And get this: its Remus/Tonks! Does it get any better? The prequel, Oblivious, is excellent as well, and it helps to read them in order. Also check out her In From The Cold...the perfect, sweet & cozy, Remus/Tonks ficlet!
Summer of the Phoenix by JolieBlack
-Complete- Her ability to recreate JKR's characters is simply astounding! This is a perfectly delectable peice, and its alllll canon-compliant! A dream come true! Just reread it and it was just as good the second time around!
Becoming Neville by Jedi_Rita
-Complete- Again, excellent characterization, and an interesting plot-line. Her insight into Neville is priceless, and Snape is done to a tee.
A Keen Observer by DeepDownSlytherin
-Complete- An interesting look at the relationships between the Black sisters, from Andromeda's POV. Believable maturing of characters, and a Ted that makes my knees go weak ; )
I LOVE RECCOMENDATIONS (hinthint)
(I'd love to read some fics exploring the immensley complex character of Peter Pettigrew! If you know of one, drop me a line please.)
My "favorite authors" generally have too many good stories to list, so just check out all their stuff.
Happy Reading!
