I. Round and round
the horses go
Going in circles
No end do they know
An artist’s interpretation
Of pure childhood
They’d stop if they could
Hooves clip-clop
And then it stops.

II. Back and forth
reflections bounce
Springing from mirrors
too many to count
The goal is the end
but with too many bends
Smoke and glass
No admittance to pass.

III. Up and down
The coaster rides
Going through tunnels
Attempting to hide
On the rickety track
Going clickety-clack
No riders it has.

IV. Round and round
the big wheel spins
no one can know
where it ends or begins
It spins in a circle
the lights never stop
The view from below
is never the top.

V. Round and round
the horses go
Still smiling in the night
They ride alone
in the deserted town
the merry-go-round
of children grown
Forgotten happiness
is nothing less
in this world of everlasting woe
As round and round
the horses go
