Author has written 18 stories for Ranma, Lord of the Rings, Smallville, Hey Arnold, Lizzie McGuire, Twilight, Justice League, Harry Potter, Merlin, and Young Justice.

Profile Update: 12/25/11

I am currently active in Merlin and Young Justice fanfiction. I had attempted to avoid posting any explicit material to my account, but have found creative editing isn't an option for some of the shorter stories. I would truly appreciate your understanding.

I'm keeping my really old stories up for nostalgia's sake, but they're really bad. I don't suggest reading anything from me posted prior to 2009. I have been around this site and many others for ten years now.

I'm very active on Livejournal and I've changed my homepage to my new public journal, inkberries. I also moderate the ontd_merlin community. My tumblr is beenwandering and I run a Merlin fic reccing tumblr called fuckyeahmerlinfanfic.

Anyone is welcome to follow any of the above if they're interested.

The following is a public service announcement concerning summaries:

If you say you suck at writing 100 word summaries, why would I think you could write a good 1000 word story?

If you disparage your own writing, you’re convincing others it must be true. We don’t know you in real life, we have no obligation to go, “there there, I’m sure you’re not that bad.” If you say, “oh I suck at this,” I’m going to think, “then why would I waste my time.” So whether or not it’s true, don’t tell people. Let everyone give it a chance, you might surprise yourself. You might be a great author, but if you take the space designated for telling me about your work and use it to tell me how bad you are, I’m not going to bother finding out what’s inside.

If you actually do suck at writing summaries, then you need to fix that. Even brilliant writers can be bad at summaries and it’s not because of skill, it’s because of overthinking. We’re talking 100 words, if even that. You’re not going to give away the plot, so don’t use that as an excuse. I’m sure more happens in the story than the climax, tell us about what leads up to that climax. No, it’s not impossible/too hard to summarize; no story is so complex that you can’t possibly explain to a friend what it’s about before they read it. Step back, take a breath, and think of what you originally wanted to write your story about. Even being vague and saying it’s about “life and death and learning to love” is better than “oh I dunno just read it.” (Oh, but please do try not to be terrible snooze-worthy. A summary of “this is about soandso’s life” when I’ve just read an entire book/watched a show/movie about soandso’s life really gives me no reason to think your story is special or intriguing. Whatabout their life?).

If you still aren’t happy with your summary, ask a friend or fellow reader. Don’t be shy, you’re about to post the story for anyone who wanders by to read it. Find an author you liked and send them a private message, or ask your best friend to give it a glance.

Don’t turn people away before they even click. I have no reason to read a story I know nothing about. Imagine a story about a teacher named Gary. The title is “Gary’s Day,” the genre is “general” and the rating is “PG.” So far there’s nothing to tell you anything about what you’re about to read, all you have to go on is the summary. If the summary is “I suck at summaries, just read it!” I now know exactly nothing about this story. I don’t know if it’s about Gary at work, I don’t know if Gary meets someone interesting, I don’t know if Gary had tuna for lunch. But if the summary is “Gary’s everyday routine of eating breakfast on the bus is disrupted on a normal Tuesday morning when the woman next to him steals his apple.” Now I want to know why a stranger next to him took his apple, and more importantly I want to know what he’s going to do about it. This is the difference between someone reading and someone passing by.
