Basic Author Profile

Name: Daniel Dearing (Aren’t I imaginative in the Pen Name Department?)

Age: Early twenties

Primarily a Writer of: Science Fiction, usually involving some from of piloted robotic suit of the Real Robot kind. I dabble in fantasy occasionally, but I don't publish those very often. I've also taken a recent interest in Steampunk and Gaslamp Fantasy.

Random Stuff About Me: I'm a British citizen with a screwy accent (Seriously, talk with me. Chances are I might go through three different accents depending on how tired I am.) I love to write and read, as well as play games in my spare time. I'm a fan of Japanese anime, especially of the Real Robot variant (eg Gundam or Code Geass). Not Hentai though because that stuff's just wrong. I also have a fairly big interest in science fiction and the future in general, and a mad love for Romantic subplots! This shows up a lot in my writing, and I hope to publish one of my many unfinished novels in the future. My grammar’s a little shaky at the moment and I'm only now beginning to sort it out, so if you read my old stuff, don't be surprised if it's full of errors I missed. I do enjoy shipping as much as the next fanfic writer, but I have a tendency to sit on the fence during shipping wars (eg Avatar's Kataang Vs. Zutara). This is mostly due to the fact the pairings I like are very rarely canon, and at the end of the day it's just a tv show/cartoon/anime/book so it's not that big a deal to me.

My Policy on Flaming: You flame me, I ignore you, and delete the review if I can. When someone spends time and effort on a fic, it's not nice to char-grill it is it? Constructive Criticism I approve of, but flaming is just a pathetic waste of everyone’s time. Besides, if you really think my work is that bad, why on earth did you even read past the first few lines?

My Policy on Requests and Collaborations: Recently I've received several Pms regarding the prospect of doing requests or collaborating on a story together. While I am flattered that people would want me to write a story for them or write one with them, at present I cannot take on any new stories outside of my own work. This is due to two major reasons. The first is that I'm currently in university studying Creative Writing and this takes up most of my free time. This course (which ironically I've taken to improve my writing) has already slowed most of my current projects to a snail's pace (The only reason ZAFT's Archangel is updated monthly is because I'm actually around four to five chapters ahead of what I upload.) and what free time I have is given to them. The second reason is I actually have problems writing up works that are not my own ideas. This isn't to say that I can't do it, but I feel that (at least at present) every time I try, the work feels forced and unnatural. I am hopeful however that this course I am taking will help me overcome this in some way, but at present I am just going to stick to my own projects. With that said, I am always willing to listen to other people's ideas, and can give feedback on them if you want to PM them to me.

Name: A.V.A.T.A.R.: Hunt for the Courier
Category: Avatar: The Last Airbender
Status: Active...barely.
Notes: I will admit A.V.A.T.A.R. is currently moving at a snail's pace. This is mostly due to the fact I'm in the middle of adapting The Chase, which is one of those episodes I didn't like but have to adapt because it's kind of important. As such, half the time I feel like I pushing up against a brick wall with it while the rest of it is spent pining for chapters I actually wantto write up. At present I've stepped back from this fic to work on Dragonoid, in the hope that the break will help me see what I'm doing wrong with The Chase. I will return to this story once Dragonoid is complete or during the Summer, which ever comes first.

Name: Legends of Arcadian Skies

Status: Indefinite Hiatus
Notes: I've already written down the reasons for this being discontinued for the moment in a Author's letter at the end of the fic itself. In short though the reasons for putting it on hiatus were the massive rewrite I would have to put it through and a general lack of interest. Perhaps one day I might actually come back to it, but I just don't know at the moment.

Name: The Matter of Choice
Category: Avatar: The Last Airbender
Status: Hiatus
Notes: A lot of people keep asking me when or if I'm going to update this fic, and to be honest I'm actually up in the air about it. The main reason is the more I read over this fic, the more I think it's got a good enough ending as is. Most loose ends have been tied up, Aang gets the girl and everybody wins...except the Fire Nation, but at least they loose gracefully. I just don't really know how I could finish it any better short of having a big sappy where-are-they-now sort of epilogue. If inspiration hits me one day for something more then that, then I'll write it up and upload it, but it has been around three years, and I don't want to disapoint any readers that have been waiting that long.

Status: Active...sort of.
Notes: This is one of my more sucessful oneshot-turned-short-stories. Like A.V.A.T.A.R. above progress is slow, mostly because I feel the chapters I've written are a bit samey. Once Dragonoid is complete I will have another look at this story and see what can be done with it.

Demo Stories

This is an idea I had to try and suss out which stories people actually want to read. The fact of the matter is I have several novel-sized stories in the works, and I don't really want to write a doorstopper like Star Trek: Infinite Ryvius only for no one to actually want to read it.
Which is why I came up with these demo stories I've currently got in the works.
Basically, like most demos the gaming world churns out these days, each Demo Story will consist of the first few chapters of a prospective story and no more. If people like the story, then I'll focus my attention on it, write it out completely and upload it in weekly installments.

Name: The Industrial Effect
Category: Mass Effect
Status: Demo Chapters Prologue and 1 complete. Chapter 2 nearing completion. Chapter 3 in planning stage.
Summery: A blend of post-apocalypse, steampunk and gaslamp fantasy with a hint of cyperpunk attatched the post-apocalypse bits. The Industrial Effect takes place on the Broken Earth, our world ravaged by a cataclysm known as the Day of Blood. In the uncounted years since the disaster, the human race has become devided and changed into new species. Of these resurging civilisations, the Newmans of Bretonia are the latest to return to the international stage. But when the Newman colony of Eden Prime comes under attack from an unknown force, Commander Jonathan Shepard and the crew of the airship HMS Normandian find themselves caught up in unraveling the mystery that has plagued the Broken Earth since Humanity's successors began to grow again.

Summery: Two stories collide in this inter-universe crossover. Wes and May are thrown together in this remake that fuses elements of Colosseum, XD and Pokémon Ruby/Saphire/Emerald into one new story. More details to follow.

Summery: An alternate universe story that begins in the year 2015 (The year before the first game), the story follows Marcus Wayneright, a moderatly sucessful defence attorney with an Edgeworth-like personality who believes any case is winnable as long as the party is innocent. The story would currently include four cases (One based on a Manga, two originals and one based on Rise from the Ashes. This fic would be based in the universe of the GBA games, as in Phoenix didn't take that case because it happened a year earlier.) Right now the status of this demo is up in the air because I don't know whether or not to write it up as a novel, visual novel, webcomic or full blown web series. Main characters would include Marcus Wayneright, Ema Skye and Bruce Goodman.
