Author has written 27 stories for Pokémon.

Um, hi. I'm Butterfree/Dragonfree/antialiasis, I'm a twenty-one-year-old death-obsessed Pokémon fan, and I write stuff. Yay. Note that for the most part it tends to be awful, and I'd be very happy if you could help me figure out what I can do about that. That translates to "I like constructive reviews".

WARNING: My fanfiction contains characters with various mental disorders and psychological problems, random philosophy, made-up Pokémon, overused Pokémon, the view that Pokémon training is not cruel slavery of brainwashed and abused creatures (blasphemy!), death (lots of it), murder, suicide, self-mutilation, open endings, subtle and not-so-subtle criticism of religion and various other things that could offend people. If you are one of those people, you have been warned.

ALSO NOTE: Almost all of the stuff here right now is old and bad. Curse and Butterfree are newish one-shots, Morphic was completed in 2010, and The Quest for the Legends is still going (though the first thirty or thereabouts chapters of that are still extremely old and bad and you can imagine what the rest is like having to work with that), and then there are a few completed Quest for the Legends spin-offs which tend not to be quite as old as most of the rest (though arguably Scyther's Story and The Fall of a Leader are still pretty bad because, let's face it, they were written for NaNoWriMo). The rest is, well, to reiterate, old and bad, and generally when I get reviews on it today, I cringe and wonder why I didn't delete that long ago (Life of a Character, I'm looking at you). You're welcome to read it if you want, but please keep in mind as you notice how old and bad it is that I completely agree with you.

ABOUT THE QUEST FOR THE LEGENDS: A mess of a fanfic that I started in its original form when I was twelve years old. It was my first real attempt at fanfiction (I did write something before that, but I thought of that less as a piece of fanfiction and more as an explanation of how awesome my fake legendary hybrids were that happened to go on a lot of irrelevant narrative tangents). First I decided to make it involve capturing legendaries and gave it what I thought was an extremely cool-sounding title. Then I realized that the original idea had been completely stupid so I scrapped it. Then I realized that the title made no sense anymore, so instead of just changing the title like a sensible human being (I have never been one of those), I made up a new plot that also involved capturing legendaries and abruptly entangled the main character in that in chapter twenty-seven (at the time; now it's chapter twenty-five). Then after getting to chapter thirty, I decided to post it on a forum, so I revised the whole thing and wrote up to chapter thirty-six. Then somebody reviewed it and told me the early chapters were awful, not that I hadn't had my suspicions about that before, so I went and rewrote the whole thing from scratch, with some chapter splits reconsidered so that the material from the previous thirty-six chapters only took up thirty chapters this time, and then I continued on with the storyline at last. That version is the one you see here - but do note that that one was started in 2004, so even with the revisions I made, those thirty chapters are still pretty terrible.

I have actually already started yet another rewriting from scratch (which, for instance, attempts to get rid of some of the less sensible aspects of this version such as the abovementioned legendary hybrids which I found myself compelled to stuff into chapter two of the original and a Gym leader who openly trains legendary clones), but since this version has gotten this far, I'm going to press on to finish it and then continue to try to rewrite it into a more or less not wallbanger-inducing work of fiction after that is done. Thus, consider yourself warned not to expect too much if you read this version. It gets better (somewhat), but it's still basically something cooked up by a twelve-year-old. I keep writing it anyway because I generally do not give up on things I've already spent a lot of time on, and sad as that sounds, this fic is by now the single longest-running project I have undertaken in my life (closely followed by my Pokémon website - why, no, I don't seem to have a life). That and I think I'm on to something with the plot now that I've actually figured out what it's about, something that didn't happen until I had been merrily writing and rewriting it for several years without knowing what the heck was going on with it.

The spin-offs are mostly about my fictional Scyther society which, in accordance with my personal interests, has a systematic obsession with death and suicide. Oddly, Scyther's Story ended up sounding like I'm clinically depressed and like to cut myself, and The Fall of a Leader like an anvilicious... something. I don't even know what the hell it seems to advocate, but it still sounds like an author tract. I don't know how that happened. In any case they're both rather rambly, angsty character-based stories that are frequently badly written, what with being slapped together in a month each. Particularly the former; I was looking at it the other day and am not sure what I was on.

ABOUT MORPHIC: A completed, originally darkly humorous deconstructionish Pokémorph fic (in the "human/Pokémon hybrids" sense, not the "people who can turn into Pokémon similar to the Animorphs series which I've never read" sense) that eventually evolved into just plain dark and depressing. It appears to have risen to some infamy, since it seems to have somehow found its way onto the Fan Fic Recommendations page for Pokémon on TV Tropes and, in fact, has a TV Tropes page of its own started by a reader. Feel free to edit it, as I don't feel right about being more than minimally involved with it.

Interestingly, I have read exactly one Pokémorph fic in my life and openly dislike the concept of Pokémorphs - as far as I'm concerned, Pokémon look magnitudes better the way they are than when people attempt to mix them with humans in any way. It came about as a random idea I had when reading an article about gene-splicing in animals; something that stuck with me was a hypothetical timeline imagining that an eccentric millionaire might around some particular year pay scientists to engineer him a daughter with eagle wings instead of arms, to the horror of the general public. My brain immediately conjured up an image of a little girl with useless feathered wings running around in circles in a fashionable living room, waving them around manically, trying to fly. My thought process from there went approximately, "Hee, I wonder just what kind of chaotic controversy would arise if Pokémon world scientists actually made Pokémorphs. And just how messed-up their lives would be when they grew up. It would be kinda fun to write a story like that." Then the idea lay dormant for a while until a thread about Pokémorph fics and their various pitfalls on a forum made me remember the idea and want to revive it, if only because it would be pretty interestingly different from the kinds of stories discussed in the thread. (Specifically, stories that involve fully human teenagers kidnapped by Team Rocket or another sinister organization and somehow merged with a Pokémon there. I had not previously realized that Pokémorph fics apparently didn't generally go the proper genetic engineering route, since after all, as I said, I had only ever read one Pokémorph fic in my life and that one was actually good.)

Although I am going to rewrite the hell out of it, especially the first few chapters (chapter two in particular is just altogether wrong thanks to taking itself far, far less seriously than the fic ended up doing), and it has some logic issues like whoa, it is probably on the whole my best work, at least according to most people I trust to just about know what they're talking about. Don't like Pokémorphs? Well, again, me neither, so I wouldn't think that actually poses a problem here, but do what you like.
