24/01/2012: I know, I've got veeerry slow and sporadic with my updates here, and for that I'm sorry. I've been working on my original fiction a fair bit, as I'm quite frustrated by having so many dangling unfinished works hanging over me. I do plan on getting back to writing "Future Tense", but I really have to do some major surgery on the plot. (As in, give it one.) As soon as I have "Memento Mori" finished, I'll get back on it!

Ha, profile time. :scratches head: I never was good at these things.

Writing is one of my driving passions. Most of it, to be fair, is set in my own universe, with my own characters and creatures and societies, but every now and then I’ll be bitten by the fanfiction bug and I’ll be distracted and silly for a few months. And you can usually guarantee there’ll be robots in it somewhere…

(I must confess right now that I’m (usually) really bad at finishing things. :( I get distracted and go off and write something else. Frequent prods may keep me on track, but I make no guarantees. Frankly, I'm still astonished that I got "Screaming Blue" finished!)

Three of my NaNoWriMo efforts have involved my OCs - although I'm still working on getting the stories finished:

"Adverse Camber" in 2009 starred Slipstream, Firewire and Celerity, and the "Three Mustekeers" got brief cameos.

"Toccata and Fugue in 2010 had quite a big cluster of them, including a few new ones; Whitesides, Slipstream, and Celerity, to name a few.

"Memento Mori" in 2011 technically has one of my OCs - Blink, all grown up - but she's turned organic, (partially) by accident, so I'm not sure if it counts, haha.

"In Shining Armour" is an idea I'm playing around with; just involves OCs, though, so I doubt I'll bother uploading it here. (If the boys have their way it'll probably be too x-rated to be allowable anyway.) If anyone's interested, if I get anything done and uploaded I'll put a link to it here.

Couple of notes:
To start with, I always see robotic characters as being very fluid, when it comes to gender; I mean, technically, for them? “Gender”, as it exists in their world, is purely a societal construct, something that you can decide on and change depending on your circumstances. “Mechs” and “femmes” of a particular class are pretty much identical, internally, and either gender can carry an infant. (I suppose essentially, they’re all actually “neuter”, but calling everyone an “it” carries an element of “non-person”-ness - “It” refers to a thing, not a person – and most invented pronouns annoy me.)

So, my thoughts on “Slash”?
Sure, I read it, and I enjoy a lot of it. I even write it, every now and then; I just don’t see why it necessarily has to have a label? Individuals in love are just individuals in love – who cares what gender they are?
(Disclaimer: I know, it’s to make it easier for people to find a pairing they like, or avoid one they dislike. Plus, a lot of folk hate it and it’s probably safer to at least give it a “warning sticker”. It just makes me sad that a guy and a girl in love is nothing worth being worried about, but two guys in love need a label.)

And lastly... On the character "Slipstream".

OK. Here's the deal, for those folk who are confused. I don't usually bother making much of a deal about this, but eh. Newcomers might be thinking "why is the little mech called that? Doesn't she know there's a canon Slipstream, it's the name of the Seeker female on Transformers: Animated"?
I know all this, and yes, I went "whut? Aw fraggit!" when they announced her name. My Slipstream has been about since 2008 - so it was either change his name and have to slog through a years' worth of work changing it all, or put up a disclaimer. And since I'm kinda attached to my little Seemy? Here is my disclaimer.
The "Slipstream" in this fictional AU is in no way connected to, derived from or based on the TF:A character. The situation with naming was just an unfortunate coincidence.
But I ranted enough about this already.
