Author has written 70 stories for X-Files, Pokemon, Last Unicorn, Trigun, Haibane Renmei, Tuck Everlasting, Corpse Bride, Misc. Anime/Manga, Legend of Zelda, and Super Smash Brothers. Hi there, please call me Shadsie. I've been writing fan fiction for a number of years for a variety of fandoms, although there are only a few that I've been prolific for. Seeing as I've been writing for a while and have grown through practice of the craft, what is on this profile is a smattering of the good, the bad and the ugly. I am not afraid of where I've come from, but I caution people looking only for my good/halfway-decent work to stay away from anything written pre-2004 or so. It's there for posterity, for archving purposes and because I know that a few people like my old junk out of some odd sense of nostaliga. The prescence of the old work here does not mean that I am in any way still proud of it or even still approve of it, it's just that I don't like to rip nostalgia away from people, even if I think it is misguided. 000 WHY I WRITE FAN FICTION: Well, I like to write, simple as that. Playing with worlds is something I find enjoyable. Also, the more bitter reason is that it gets a lot more attention than original work. I have learned a great deal and developed my style because people review fan fiction who would not be as forthcoming with original pieces. I am an original author, but not one that's "made it" in any way yet. I write original work... I've written orignal novel-length works (fantasy/sci-fi genre) and frankly, very few people seem to care. I've sought publication and agenting and a typical response letter I get is "Dear Author, we apologize for the impersonal nature of this letter," (I am quoting my last query rejection verbatim here...)! When I write original work, I can toil away creating a world and its characters for them to be only known by me and the few people I trust enough to give me honest thoughts and good editing suggestions on my "real work." When I write a fan fiction, on the other hand, I'm playing with a world that's shared in the collective subconcious of multitides, a world that already has an audience, and one that I'm "ripping off" myself - accordingly, I get feedback without fail. Unlike my attempts at original writing, I have no delusions of grandeur regarding my fanfiction or any eventual hope of making a living or getting any kind of lasting glory from it. Moreover, people seem to care about my fan fiction. I've never received a "Dear Author" letter as a fan fiction review. With my fan fiction, whether it's enjoyed or reviled, I know it's being read. 000 My longtime and current main fandoms are: The Legend of Zelda - Most games, that which I've played. Fantasy is what I consider my "native genre." and Trigun / Trigun Maximum - I've been a fantatic for both the anime and manga for several years. I am not as active in this fandom as I have been in years past but there's alwayas the possibilty that I'll get a good idea for some new work somewhere down the line. Sci-fi Westerns are awesome. 000 I like to write stuff with a dramatic and often dark bent. I'm not good with humor or with "fluff," though I have tried my hand at it. I am much better with drama, adventure and horror. I like philosohpical and psychological themes. I try to create stories with depth, for as "deep" as one can go with fan fiction. I specialize in gen fic, that is, "without pairings," though I do make the occasional attempt at romance for pairs I especially like, if I get a good idea. As for my personal beliefs and whatnot, they've been in flux for a number of years. I used to be for things just a few years ago I'm not for now, against things I'm not against now. Unlike many ffnetters, I don't feel the need to display all my personal and/or sociopolitical opinions outright. If the work is good, let it be good, independant of the personal politics of the author. Views and ideas presented in my work are always changing and my views in fiction-land don't even always match up to my views about the real world, anyway. I am not who I used to be, though my old work still exists. (Keep this in mind if you're looking up my name out of nostalgia). What rests upon this page is that which I do to waste my time and life - and to have fun. Enjoy. ~For those interested, I created a "movie-poster" style cover for the Legend of Zelda multichaptered fic, The Great Desert. It can be seen at my Deviant Art page here: http://shadsie.deviantart.com/art/Great-Desert-Poster-127386126 I HAVE BEEN TV-TROPED!! TV Tropes, my favorite Wiki to browse, featured my Haibane Renmei story, "Before We Had Wings" on their Tear Jerkers page. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/TearJerker/FanFiction This may be of no consequence to most readers, but (considering that it's a neutral-to-positive sort of mention), it brings me great joy. As of January, 2010 - "The Great Desert" has some updates. | |||||||||||
