Recommendations? I go for just about anything as long as it doesn't have H/G and is well-written. 9/17/07 My latest story, Taceo, is a companion story to Muet. You don't have to read both, but I would recommend it. Luna is strange and fun to write. Thoughts on Gay Marriage! 1) Gay marriage is not natural, and, as Americans, we reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and liposuction. 2) Gay marriage will encourage straight people to be gay in the same way that hanging around tall people makes you tall. 3) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because dogs have legal standing and can sign a marriage contract. 4) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all. Women are still property, blacks can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal. 5) Straight marriages would be less meaningful if gay marriage was allowed. The sanctity of Brittany Spear's 55 hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed. 6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet and the world needs more children. 7) Obviously, gay parents will raise gay children because straight parents only raise straight children. 8) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed upon an entire country. That's why we only have one religion in America. 9) Children can never succeed without a male and female figure in a home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children. 10) Gay marriage would change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans. Support gay marriage! 9/18/07 Alright, I have an account on HPFandom under the name Novocaine (with an 'e'). It's listed as my homepage. I mention this because I wrote a story for Joji Sada that would definitely end up getting my account deleted. I bend the rules, but even I wouldn't post Annientamento on FFNet. It's a teen Bella/Sirius piece. It's pretty much sex, but it's got a pinch of plot. I try to keep my characters in canon-personality, or at least make it believable, so you know what that means for this fic! Can we say mind games, hatred, and cruelty, kiddies? I knew we could! Really pathetic, I know. Especially considering how long I've been with FFNet. Anyway, I edited Clouds and Death Wish - they both desperately needed cleaning up. Speaking of Cloud, it is embroidered now. I am in the midst of writing a second chapter for it, as well. Lastly: I wrote an Avatar fic. I just have to say that Avatar fans are woefully unexposed to the cynicism, darkness, and rock-bottom that many HP fans habitually write about. Every single one of my Avatar reviewers have told me "Wow, so depressing...but good!" This needs to be corrected, people. The hazelnut darkness is so delicious. 1/9/08 I am an IDIOT. I've been betaing for Marilena ever since she started posting her fabulous FFVII story Sable and Ivory, but I didn't realize she was posting on FFNet. All of the immature people on this site who try to make themselves sound interesting. I mean, argh! They're usually around fifteen years old, as a rule, and they're either abominably hyper (and proud of it - WHY?) or viciously incompetent at life. They try too hard. I really don't care if an author is the human incarnation of some god as long as they write with a little skill, but I just read a story where this one author apparently felt a burning need to pepper personal-opinion notes throughout the fic and utterly maul the characters with pop-culture inserts, OC speech patterns, and irritating, unoriginal, flippant sarcasm. Also, the very worst of all sins: self-insertions. You know that abomination - when there is an undefined side-character who gets turned into a rebellious, bipolar version of Mary Sue who has all the answers. She is the dreaded Jane-call-me-Jazz. (You totally know what I'm talking about.) The fic started out well, and it was an interesting idea. But she twirled off into utter incompetence after the first chapter, and it got to where I could no longer force myself to read it. Note: I love sarcasm. But sarcasm is an art form. You have to be somewhat original for it to be smirk-worthy at all, and this girl was just taking up a lot of useless dialogue space. She didn't even use it for character development! I know we can't ban these...people, and I know that some of my first pieces weren't too hot, either. (Even though this wasn't her first piece! She has more out there - I shudder at the thought of what I might destroy if I ever run across one of her fics again.) But I like to think that I was never at that level of bad, and I also like to think that I've really improved since I started. And I keep my personal comments to the end - you know, in the author's note, where the author's notes live. If I squee, I keep it restricted to the Yonkaka comm on LJ where I am surrounded by like-minded fangirls. Sorry about the rant; I just had to put that out there. And I dislike flames, which the author probably would have taken my completely justified criticisms as. Yeah, I know. No idea why. Really, I just wouldn't have been able to do the whole "calm, impartial suggestion" thing that I'm usually extremely good at - I probably would have ended up making her cry. (rolls eyes) Faux-punk teeny-boppers... Anyway, I ought to have a new Naruto fic up soon. I'm pretty happy with it at the moment. Speaking of not-so-hot first pieces: I'm thinking of deleting them.
