About Me

Pen Name: My name is Stephanie, and "rainbow" is for my far-reaching and often shifting tastes in fanfic categories. I also happen to like rainbows and Stevie Nicks. You can just call me "RS." Been calling myself a writer since 3rd grade, though I lost the drive at the beginning of high school and wrote next to nothing for about five years. At present I'm a college student in Minnesota pursuing an English major/French minor, and my great loves in life are animals, books, and fandom.

9/08 STATUS UPDATE: I haven't written a piece of fiction in over a year, and so you can consider me on indefinite hiatus. I've been here all my fanfic-writin' life, so if that urge ever comes back I'll post anything I finish, but I've mostly stopped reading fanfic for lack of time, and what I do read are usually stories I've specifically sought out on LiveJournal. Speaking of LJ, you can find me over there full time, where most of my writing efforts have gone into episode reviews. I like to think they're almost as much fun, if briefer in relevance.

Writing: Likes

1) Stylistically, for both reading and writing purposes, I like fairly short pieces of descriptive writing with minimal dialogue – drabbles, character sketches, and the like. ("Oneshot" is music to my ears.) I call it “word art” and finding a good one drives me giddy with delight. The best examples I can think of are QueenofGeeks’ “Bitter End" and Puckk’s “Shatter." I am also generally in love with anything by Temet Nosce.

2) I am slowly re-discovering how long, multi-chapter works can be enjoyable. However, I usually wait until they're nearly complete or at least have started to gather a sizable number of reviews before I pick them up.

3) Put animals in a story and I will love you forever.

Writing: Dislikes

1) I'm not a fan of slash in any way, shape, form or fandom. I just automatically shudder at the mere mention of such a pairing, and will avoid it at all costs. There are rare, rare, RARE exceptions to this rule, so if you write a great one-line summary, keep it extremely mild ("unrequited" works best) and make it absolute poetry, you just might trick me into glancing at or even praising it.

2) I also tend to stay away from M-rated stories. I don't like harsh swearing, and I'd really just rather not read a lot of explicit bedroom scenes. I believe the technical term people have tossed my direction is "prude." (Disclaimer: This rule apparently does not apply to Remus and Tonks, or for that matter Jim and Pam. I don't know how that happened, or what it means for my propriety.)

3) Crossovers are usually a bad thing. So are stories with multiple 'ship focuses, as the chances are very, very small that people are able to pull them all off believably, even if like all the choices (also a rarity).

Final Notes

1) All story ideas are inspired by Muse. She will not answer to anything else, despite repeated attempts to convince her that her given name is Horatia, named after the character for whom she's given me the majority of my ideas. Muse is mute, fluent in sign language, and breeds plot bunnies as a hobby. Her comments are translated for me by her roommate, the extremely talkative, ever-sarcastic Voice (given name Charlatan. Voice: "NOT"). My head is a fun place to be.

2) My claim to fanfiction infame is off-the-wall humor, found in my ongoing mini-opus, the Interview Lady series. It has its roots in the Digimon universe (my first fandom on this site), but maintains very few tie-ins to the show. It also comes in an Animorphs edition, two X-Files ones, and I'm in the middle of a new one for CSI. This site won't let me house said series anymore, due to its script format, but if you click on my homepage link it will take you straight there.

3) I have given in to pressure and gotten myself a Livejournal like everybody else here. I do not post fic there. Its entries revolve around discussing others' fanfic and/or TV shows. The babbling blog in which I discuss the progress of my own writing remains on Xanga.

4) Stories go on my list of favorites for a reason. Same goes for authors. I do not add people or their work lightly. I believe in the integrity of the favorites list as a means of recommendation, and I stand firmly behind every choice.
