"These were the lovely bones that had grown around my absence: the connections — sometimes tenuous, sometimes made at great cost, but often magnificent — that happened after I was gone. And I began to see things in a way that let me hold the world without me in it. The events my death wrought were merely the bones of a body that would become whole at some unpredictable time in the future. The price of what I came to see as this miraculous lifeless body had been my life."
– Susie, page 320 of "The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold
Hello, one and all. Welcome to...my profile.
My name: TerraCotta Bones. Partway inspired by the tomb of the terracotta soldiers in China, and partway inspired by the wonderful novel The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. (And guess what? They're making a movie! Score.)
My Fanfiction: All Fullmetal Alchemist. Inspired by the wonders of Hiromu Arakawa, FMA's creator; the fanfic Inextricable by the very talented canarynoir; and the Fix You AMV by the very talented sherlock-nomes.
My Writing Schedule: Unfortunately, very bad. For some reason I am completely, consistently, and utterly nuts, and have given up my soul to school. Updates are thus rare (-wince-) and sporadic. On the other hand, I can only write well when I'm inspired, so hopefully everything I put out will have a modicum of quality to it.
Other stuff:
Location: USA
Interests: anime, eating, sleeping, cooking, drawing, painting, House, Bones, reading weird books, and, of course, school
Occupation: Student
My first anime: Sailor Moon. (It is my opinion that all true anime fans must at some point watch Sailor Moon.)
My first favorite anime: Gundam Wing! Definitely the best gundam/mobile suit show out there. ZechsxNoin all the way, baby!
My current anime love: Fullmetal Alchemist. I am obsessed. Yay EdWinry!
Some thoughts on the FMA Edwin fandom: I wish Edwin writers would stop writing Al out of their stories. He's such a big part of FMA (and Ed), and a great character in his own right, so even while I'm all for EdWin I don't wanna see him sidelined. Cheers for my Love Alphonse pitch!
COMPLETE FICS
The Road: Angsty. I loved this scene in the anime - if you're wondering if the lines I used are the actual words in that scene, the answer is yes. I hopped on over to YouTube and listened to the English version and the fansub - if you don't believe me go listen to 'em! (Really, do it. That scene rocks.) Listening to both versions taught me something - the power of dialogue. The fansub is a little weaker, and probably closer to the actual translation - the English one really plays up each character's mood and personality. For example, in the fansub Ed says something like, "I thought you wanted to be a war hero so you could become Fuhrer one day." In the English version it's "I thought you were all about following orders and kissing ass so you could become Fuhrer one day." See the difference? As for MY story, I wonder if I actually said anything, or if it was just a lot of philosophical rambling.
Drink In: Literally popped into my head - the power of music I think. Something like this has buzzed around my head for a while - a story about a possible happy ending for the series. Like "if our lives were better, this is how they would be."
Return: Something like this has also buzzed around my head for a while - the terrible reality of what would happen after the movie ends. I think it puts a real kick into the idea of "sad but true" - even after the end of the movie ends, their lives keep going. And I really like this one, despite my hesitation about songfics. I always wonder if the mood I'm writing is what I'm writing or just an illusion of the song. (If you can find that Anna Nalick song, listen to it as you read.) Another problem with songfics? No really good fic is a songfic. Sad but true.
Coffee and Chocolate: Written for the Ed_Winry Christmas Contest on Livejournal, to the theme of "Hot Coffee." A bit (a lot) rushed, I've gotta say, and not my best work either. I'm just messin' with feelings in this one - not really saying much, just messin'. If you wanted to though, you could think of this story in the same timeline as Drink In. That might be nice.
IN-PROGRESS
Living Room Space: Thank you Something Corporate! ("Konstantine" is the best inspiration ever.) This fic is just drowning in angst. Progress on this fic...exists, but only barely. I've recently been writing more, but don't expect anything for...well, a very long time. It's not a hiatus, it's just school. While you wait, you could watch an FMA AMV that uses this song at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A33sBA6sQ5U. Don't get any foreshadowy ideas though. The AMV is totally unrelated to my story. (That was a disclaimer, btw.)
Winry: Forget everything you ever thought about this story. It's a whole 'nother beast now. Haha...but I guess that's what tends to happen when you write your way into things. Still, I have high hopes for the plot. It's finally getting a little meat on it. As a side note - you know what they say about "writing what you know"? I'd say that's the real reason behind all my recent updates and why chapters 5 - 7 have to do with being away from home. >.
