|Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I will edit generally - punctuation, grammar, spelling, structure, plot - and will also pay particular attention to any aspect of your story that you wish me to. For example, if you have a question about some description or another, or the effectiveness of a plot twist, I'll give you my views on those as well. As long as I am familiar with the fandom in which you are writing, I can also do a good job with characters. I ask two things anyone wishing me to beta read for them: firstly, that you leave language out of any messages you send me; and secondly, that you are civil and do not get upset at any suggestions I might make. Remember, you're free to take or leave them as you wish! :)
|My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am very good at grammar, spelling, punctuation, description, structure and formatting. I am also generally good at characterization, though I'm a bit of a stickler for developing characters properly; if you're writing an AU, just let me know beforehand so I don't tear it to pieces too much. ;)
|My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
While I will still be able to cover grammar/etc., I will not be able to do a good job at commenting on characterization and plot if I am not in the fandom you are writing in. I am still willing to read your story if it is in a different fandom, but I will have no background knowledge to draw from.
|Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I prefer stories with a real plot, as opposed to drabbles. Also, I'd prefer if the stories were somewhere in the vicinity of 5,000 words in length - if they are longer, that's fine, but perhaps you could send it to me in sections. That would be much more manageable. Also - demanding, aren't I? - I'd prefer stories that respect the original movie, book or series that they are based on. No Sherlock Holmes romances, for example, because that is simply not part of his character. No Eowyn randomly marrying Legolas. No Captain Rex marrying Ahsoka and then heading off to assassinate Cody. (Okay, I haven't seen the last one yet, but . . . you know.) ;) [UPDATE: Okay, I *did* find a story like that. Yipe.] I really like it when characters stay essentially the same as they are originally.
|Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I will not, under any conditions, read stories that contain: swearing, sex, gratuitous violence, rape or same-sex relationships, hinted at or otherwise. I also would rather not read cross-overs, although I will if they meet all other standards. If you're uncertain, just ask. I won't bite, I promise. ;)
