|Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Urgh, why are there so many up-tight beta's everywhere? I'm friendly, I'm human. I bite, I don't destroy.
Well, call me Emzi, first of all. Hello, person.
As a beta-reader, I enjoy to read other's work.. and help them in any possible way to improve their style (in my eyes, at least). I will actively note you of any hints I have, or any changes I have made to a document I have been sent. If on word I will usually highlight them lime-green. (I love the colour!)With a little note to explain why. (I'm just awesome like that!)
I just hope that, if you request me, you're at least a little original, nice and have an enthusiasm in writing. To save confusion, I am British so I use the spelling and grammar.. ect.
Please, for the love of god, do not request my help if you don't take lightly to me telling you what I see wrong with it and what could make it better. I'm 'harsh' (just honest, really) and if I see no potential in the writing or the story, you will hear about it. That's what a beta is for. Beta, Better? Geddit?
|My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm seriously good at descriptive writing and emotional insights.
I mean seriously, I made like 3 people cry with a less-than-a-page piece. I'm really good at triggering emotions, it seems. (That's what it's about, ne?)
I'm very good at those dark fics, the brooding and horror types. However, I'm trying my hardest to break the mold. So I'm not cornered to that. I have a good sense of humor, it's easy to make me laugh. I'm brilliant for comedy and romantics. (I read them allot, hee.)
This is going to sound a little insane, but I type on a spell and grammar-check less word. Not because I want to get better at grammar and spelling (I am NOT that bloody noble, never will be) but because my brother's software had a hissy fit. So obviously, I can spot a misspelled word a mile away now. -superman pose-
|My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Hmm. Well, I'm seriously bad at writing comedy. I don't know what it is, I'll come out with an excellent one-liner or situation once in a blue moon, but I really bad at keeping that constant effect all the way through-out. I'm currently writing a fic in that way and madly making sure it's GOOD!.. Failing!
I have a hard time in third person. ("Whut?! Most of your fics are in 3rd person!?") Exactly my funny-faced friend~ I use this here site to tackle my weaknesses and try and get better. Believe you and me, I do ALLOT better with original stories.
|Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
Well, if it is all emo or stab stab die, RAWR stronger than yuu and dis charktar betar than dis.... Then I'll tell you that I don't like it and why, but will also suggest how to improve.
Other than that I'm good for all stories. But a good story involves a little of every genre, ne? Therefore, I have no preferences, just something with a little heart put in it will do.
|Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I don't care. As a self-proclaimed 'writer' I am prepared to read and learn about everything, so I'm a K-M reader. (Haven't got the guts to write M's, but..) Like I said earlier, I use this site to get better, so I keep a very open mind.
