Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Honestly, I don’t really care what I read as long as it’s interesting. When I review, I check for everything that should make up a good story: characterization, chapter format and length, rich description, plausible plot/setting, and overall originality. I don’t care if this is just fan fiction. If you request a review, then don’t expect me to just boost your ego with a: br /br /

I will never berate you as a writer or act as though I’m “superior” to you in any way because I’m not. While reviewing, I attempt to be constructive (i.e. listing list the story’s or chapter’s positives, negatives, and suggestions on what you could to improve it). You don’t have to take my advice word for word, but at least acknowledge it. Accept the help, and become stronger from it. I'm not here to "fix" your story, I'm here to help "improve" it. br /br /

I tend to write lengthy reviews, just as a heads up. br /br /

Also, don't freak out if I don't respond to you right away. More often than not, I do see your PM/e-mail, but I just haven't gotten around to responding to it. Usually, I try to respond between 24-48 hours, but sometimes, yeah, it'll take longer than that. If I take longer than a week, then just send me another message as a reminder and I'll get to it.

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am particularly good in plot development, scene description, and characterization. I like to take overused clichés and distort them into my own creations. I work as a writing tutor, so I am also a tad picky regarding spelling and grammar, although I tend to be more careless with the latter. Honestly, when weighed against "higher order" concerns like plot and character development, spelling and grammar aren't as significance. br /br /br /

As a beta-reader, like I mentioned previously, I attempt to approach the story from a constructive perspective. What is the story doing right? What are some properties that the story is lacking/can improve upon? I usually address "higher order" concerns, such as the aforementioned factors above, first and then address any grammatical issues (if they're significant enough) at the end. Otherwise, I'll just note them in the text.

My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Procrastination is a bitch. It is usually not a matter of not knowing where to go with the story, rather the action of actually typing the damn thing out. Similarly, if I'm writing something up and it's not "translating" well from my mind to paper/keyboard, then frustration will usually kick and writer's block dominates... Welp. br /

Sometimes, I feel that I drag out the plot in order to create more suspense, which I realize is unnecessary on my part. I also feel that I struggle with action/fighting scenes, which is why I've probably why I've avoided writing action/adventure stories. In addition, I sometimes fall into to the ol' trap of characters having long soliloquies and/or dialogues in the midst of a battle (i.e. think of Eren and Armin's misplaced "speeches" in the middle of a damn titan attack).br /br /br /

I also have a tendency to be careless with my grammar, especially with regards to fragments, but it’s usually nothing a quick edit of the story or chapter could fix. br /

Regarding beta reading, unless I know exactly what I should be looking for in a story/chapter, my review - while extensive - may be somewhat uncoordinated. It is very important that authors state what exactly they would like addressed in their stories/chapters.

Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I don't have a particular preference. I'm generally okay with most genres/topics, but as listed below there are a few that I'd rather stray away from. br /

br /

I would feel most comfortable reading stories from Sonic the Hedgehog, since picking on hedgehogs is my hobby. I am willing to read other sections as well, such as One Piece, Pokemon (manga & anime), Attack on Titan, and Naruto. I tend to read within the Anime and Games section of this website, so just hit me up with anything from those.

Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Characters that are placed in high school. It's one thing if the characters are in school and doing other things (like in Bleach and Durarara! - they're in school, but that's not the main focus), but if the premise of the story is corny, cheesy high school "drama," then I'll pass. This site... this universe has quite enough of those. br /

br /

...That's not my cup of tea.
