|Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I love beta reading, and I tend to find spelling and grammar mistakes in the regular books I read.
Normally, first, I read it as a reader, picking up grammar, spelling, punctuation, and formatting errors or just things that might confuse people.
Next, I reread it for things that just don't fit, such as bad characterization (at least I'll try), dialogue, cliches, etc and give advice on that.
I'm really nitpicky. I will change something that is not in proper English for the time period or the area, and I will not accept something that seems to have had no effort put into it. I'm your beta reader, but you have the write the story. If it doesn't look like you care about the story, don't expect me to.
|My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Like I said above, I'm really great at spotting technical errors like spelling, grammar, punctuation, spacing, or formatting. Or things that just don't look right. Also, I'm good spotting language that doesn't fit the setting (time, place, geographical location, and age). Also, I'm really quick about sending it back, so I'll try and get it back to you as soon as possible.
|My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm okay at spotting cliches (I've had a lot of practice) and marysues/garystues, but don't ask me on whether or not your character is OC, because I'm not great at that, and it's not a huge priority depending on the story.
|Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I really don't have any strong preferances toward fics, but I don't like some canon pairings (those are in my author profile)(HARRY/GINNY=EVIL), and if asked to beta one, I might tend to bias, even if I try not to.
Otherwise, I'm open for anything.
|Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Like I said before, I might tend to bias a little against pairings I don't like when trying to beta, but I will try not to. Otherwise, I don't care what type of stories I beta, as long as their not parodies, because I really think they're disrespectful to the canon. And if the story doesn't seem to have any effort put into it (I'm sure you've seen some of those), such as blatantly mispelled names of characters or places, getting the names WRONG, horrible spelling and grammar, wrong use of language, bad words and horrible slang that the characters wouldn't use and that are just used for the hell of it, etc - if you want a more detailed explanation or an example, PM me - I will just refuse to read it. If you don't care about getting the facts right, or your language use and stuff, don't expect me to.
