sandrilenefatoren2 has left a vacation message:
Sorry to anyone who might want me to beta their stories right now, but personal life, work, and my own projects are taking up too much of my time, and I can't in good conscience take on any beta requests when I'm not reliable enough to do so.
|Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am a working adult who reads quickly and thoroughly, I always reply ASAP, and I'm very good at catching /
As a beta, I concentrate on the 'flow' of a story. If I tried to change the actual events in a story, I wouldn't be a beta, I'd be writing it for you. I make sure that events are understandable, flow well, and are in keeping with the characters used. I try to catch gaping plot-holes whenever possible, and am not afraid to point them out or state my opinion on the way a piece is written. If you're going to hire me as a beta-reader, you might want to make sure you know where you're going with a story, as I'll ask questions to clarify my own understanding. If I can't understand it, your readers can't either. Trust me, Reading Comprehension was my best area on the SATs.
|My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
As far as writing goes, my strengths are grammar, spelling, and character profiling. I'm good at determining how a character would react to certain stimuli (Batman does not smile. Ever. Bruce Wayne does.), and at capturing their speech patterns correctly. (For example, Rock Lee from Naruto doesn't use contractions in his speech, hence why he's awkward to write in English.) I am EXCELLENT at profiling characters, especially original characters. Actually, it's almost an obsession...
Overall, my specialty is in the 'refining' part of the process.
|My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I do have a little trouble with character placement-that is, where, exactly, is your character standing in the scene? What can he see/not see, hear/not hear? If there are too many characters, I sometimes forget to include one in a conversation. That said, however, the logistics of that type are YOUR concern. I'm just there to help out.
|Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I love action/adventure types, crossovers, even zany fourth-wall breakers. I like mysteries too. Crossovers, however, are my favorites-IF THEY'RE WELL-WRITTEN. And by well-written I mean sensibly written. Fixing spelling and grammatical errors is MY job. YOUR job is to write the story. Make it make sense.
|Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Do not ask me to beta-read homosexual or bisexual romances. I'm tolerant, but I can't handle that kind of thing in writing. Actually, romances in general are pretty hard for me to beta.
