|Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hello. As a beta reader, you can expect me to find any mistakes (not necessarily all) in your works and correct them for you. I will also make suggestions on passages that could be written to be better, less confusing, or more interesting to the reader. I don't have very high expectations, but I would like it if you can write to the point that it's not hard to understand what you're saying--shorthand should be kept to a minimum, if you don't mind. I would also like to have an easy way to contact anyone who wants me to beta for them--AIM usernames or an e-mail address. I will use that if there is a certain part in the story that I'm unsure about your wording. Also, I will not change your story. I will accept your story how it is written, and shall not attempt to make it mine.
|My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm quite good with spelling, usually very good at grammar, and have a large vocabulary, so I may make suggestions to different words if you use the same word a bit too much. If a sentence is confusing, I can change it without changing the meaning to make it clearer (after consulting you, the author, about it). You can count on me to be able to pay attention to the plot as well as the mistakes in your work. I won't let you down.
|My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I do have a tendency to change things on my own that sometimes you may not want changed--it's a nasty habit, and I am getting to the point where I can at least control or let you know of it. Should I do this, I will highlight the area I changed without it being completely necessary or something of the like. In any case, you will be able to see that it was changed without going through your original piece slowly for comparisons. Usually, though, I only change something if you've said the same thing so many times that I, as a reader as well as a beta, got sick of it. There are limits, after all.
|Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I would prefer to beta for fandoms that I am familiar with, though it is not necessary. However, if I don't know the fandom--or if I'm not tied closely to it--I may make mistakes and correct things that were correct in the first place, so please bear with me in those situations. If you are curious as to if I know the fandom you're writing for, simply send me an e-mail or a PM asking me about it. I'll get back to you with the answer.
Also, I will be more dedicated to your story if it has some romance for a pairing that I'm at least supporting halfway. I'll accept it either way, but I may not go as quickly as I could if I don't personally like the ship. I will accept any genre, and I really am not terribly picky. Just keep in mind that I haven't read many horror stories. So...well, I think that's self-explanitory, feel free to disagree silently.
One last thing: I would prefer stories that are rated T or down, but if it isn't M for, say, sex scenes, I will probably take it. I do my best to give everything a chance, but I can be very close-minded sometimes.
|Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I will not beta for anything with sex scenes. I can take some more intimate situations, but no sex scenes. Period, end of story. Bear in mind that I am quite a bit younger than I sound, which is why I don't accept lemons. Limes will be fine, to a point. So please let me know how strong the lime is before-hand, that I might be prepared.
Depending on fandoms, I also am rather unlikely to beta for homosexual pairings. I'm not trying to be discriminating, but some pairings are just not something I'll even think about reading, let along betaing. Sorry. However, there are some that I accept and/or support, but also a great many that I don't. If you want to know if I'll beta for yours and it includes such pairings, but you're unsure if I'd be willing, just PM or email me.
