|Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm not an aggressive beta-reader that looks through your story looking for problems. I beta the same way I read, as I'm going through the story, if I see a problem I'll ask for it to be changed. Being both a humorous and violent person in real life, I can tell when there is an issue with either one. As in strangely undetailed but graphic desciptions, or if there's a difference between a crack-fic in disguise, or just an over-all funny story.
Another thing I personally enjoy is Original ideas within a story, and I don't mean OC madness. Having multiple original characters/ideas is good, but be careful it doesn't slowly become your own idea. I enjoy a cool OC as a main character in a story, but I hate mary-sues. In my stories, it may seem that my OCs are Mary-sues, but to prevent that, I add in Mary-sue'ish villains above the OC to balance the scale.
As a guy, one thing I hate is Yaoi, I will instantly deny any sort of yaoi based romance that is thrown at me. But I can understand romance stories, and depending on the pairing and amount of it in the story will sway my opinion. I can't take tragedy/romance, it annoys me, badly.
|My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
My Strengths in all honesty, is probably plot, spelling, writing style, criticism. To me, the best story has the best plot, and I try my best to find a very good one. I'm also a very good "speller", any slight problems I could easily detect, even if I don't know the word. Writing Style is another thing I focus on, as a reader and writer, I personally enjoy the qoute format of stories for example:
"Hi, I'm Gilgamesh." The man said wondering why he just introduced his self to a starving lion.
I will tell you if your repeating words to often, instead of saying Link five times in one paragraph. Switch between saying him or saying the Hero of *whatever Zelda game it is*
|My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
My weaknesses in a story would be... there probably isn't any. I'm not perfect, far from it, it's just that there is nothing in writing I'm significantly bad in. But I will have to say that interest may be a problem, and by interest I mean the content of the story.
1. If the stories dialogue sounds dramatic and serious, but the description and detail in the story doesn't match. I'll lose interest.
the dialogue sounds like little kids, acting like teenagers, with a small vocabulary, describing PearlHarbor. I may lose interest, keyword, MAY, it depends.
|Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
Stories that I'd prefer to beta would include the more mature genre. I'm not saying lemons (I don't mind) or things like that. But anything above the rating of K I'll settle with reading. Usually I'll read things of the following large list of genre's, action, horror, fantasy, sci-fi, romance, general, drama, humor, suspense, mystery, supernatural.
But the one thing that I'll always go for is the action genre. A good action plot, a good fight scene, a good pairing, a good OC, and I'll be sure to follow through.
I can't follow heavy drama that seems to be the center of the story. I'm most often seen reading an action/something else type story.
My preferred subjects;
Major- Zelda, Star Wars, Naruto, Soul Eater
Minor - almost everything else.
|Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Yaoi, excessive drama, crack-fics(do they need to be beta'd), Hurt genre, things along those lines. I also will have a hard time getting into an over-used, cliche story plot. Such as the dreaded high school AU
Such as a Naruto Highschool story (god knows how much I hate it)
If you have a good, original story idea. That doesn't deviate completely from the the story, you'll be fine.
